I really appreciate your way of explaining things - very clear and concise. I am not used to working on a browser interface, and one trap I keep falling into is that when I'm in Preview mode, the browser Back button is just too juicy to ignore. Of course, after hitting it many of the previous changes are not saved...

The form that you had, was that brought in from MS Forms Pro (Preview)? Looking to make a form using power apps, that then has automation with power automate. I.e a custom Purchase Request Form, that once a form is submitted in power apps, the form goes to the relevant parties for approval.

HI Shane, I created a Form which Default Mode is View and I added the same buttons you did on this example, new, edit, save and reset, when I change the form to Edit Mode using the edit button I added everything works fine and I can change the content of the form but when I save it the form remains in Edit form, so I added an additional function to save button "SubmitForm(Form1) = ViewForm(Form1)" It works , saves the information and changes to FormMode View but I'm getting a Runtimeerror "The form you are trying to submit is in read-only (view) mode. Only editable forms can be submited. As I said it works but I do not know if this error could mean an issue in the short term. Thanks in advance for the guidance!

I want to click save and have it return to the view mode once it has saved it ... can't work it out ... • @ShanesCows

You could set the fields to default to a variable. Then have the submit form update those variables so you see those values after the form resets.

With the "Submit / Save" button, what happens when you've got 2 forms on the screen, one that is being filled/edited and one that is pulling information from another list. Can the info from both forms be written back to the "parent" list which is the editable one?

      Thanks for the reply.
It seems that the Apache Impala(incubating) connector is the open source, native analytic database for Apache Hadoop. Connecting to your Impala database only reads data from tables. Thus we cant have a Edit Form because the connector doesn't support writing back to the database.
Could you shed some light on this ?

Hi Shane! Thank you for your direct, clear, plain language explanations of how to do all things PowerApps! I do have a question about this process. So, I have an app with a Browse, Details and Edit screen, where an icon on Browse allows for the Edit screen to go into New Mode and an icon on the Details screen puts it in Edit Mode. The Add mode works fine - puts in my Hint text or blank fields. The Edit mode however does not show the contents from the Details screen, but the blank fields and/or Hint text! Now, I can play with the Default field of each card and make it display the actual contents of the field, but then that field doesn't show Hint text in New any longer. It's like I am not toggling correctly between content in New vs content in Edit. I probably broke it somehow but now cannot figure out how to fix it - I've gone over and over the fields and buttons and they all seem to be set up correctly. I feel like I've messed up my Default fields, but can't figure out how. Can you help?

I would say step 1 is start with a blank app and try again. 😀 See of you can get that to work then come back to this app and fix it. Remember making an app from data will also set this up for you so you can see it in action.

Hi Shane, I have couple of buttons and I am hiding few fields based on selection of the button, two buttons are Project and Resources. When I click on project it hides resources fields. But when I open the app and click edit or new record, it navigates to the edit form but its blank only shows when I select either of the buttons. Is it possible to set Project as selected by default so edit form starts with Project fields ?

Hi from Mexico, I am just starting to learn PowerApps and working on my first project. I hope you can guide me on this, radio button controls, instead of having text as items could you have images or a colored box (different for each item), the application would be to choose a color or fabric type and I am trying to have a more visual control rather than just the color name? Thanks a lot for all your shared knowledge :)

Good afternoon, I have got my form working nicely where the save button updates the datasource and changes are displayed in view mode but only when the item property for the form is GalleryName.Selected. However, in one of your previous videos I watched, you said to not use GalleryName.Selected but instead to set the gallery item as a variable. When the item for the form is set as that variable, SubmitForm saves the changes back to the data source but those changes are not reflected in the ViewMode of the form until the user goes back to the gallery and re-selects the item again. Is there any way to refresh the variable and/or gallery so that the user does not have to manually go back to the gallery?

Hey Shane fantastic content as always ☺️.. I have a question re forms. I have added an edit form data source SQL add fields but the form is in view mode I've checked the properties are in edit but the form is just displaying the SQL backend data and unable to edit the form. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Darren

Is there any way to use the last selected gallery item with a new form?

so we got a save button, but it just saves and stays on the edit screen, which now makes the users press cancel after saving and this will likely cause some frustration.
how would i save and go back to viewform with 1 press on the save button?

Set the OnSuccess property of the form to navigate or change the mode to what you want.

Hi Shane, great video presentation as always, ive been watching your videos since i started using powerapps.
I have a problem with forms that i cant find my way around it, i want to save my form using SubmitForm() and in the form there is a DatePicker control which i set its DisplayMode to View and DefaultDate to Now() which gives users the current date and they cant mess with it. When a user want to save the data they entered, powerapps returns an error message saying in the Date field, it expects a string. Im guessing that the date is in numerical format. How do i correct this? Thanks in advance

      Try Today() instead of Now().
