I learned from a master smith, that if you start by forging the tip first, then the tang' and then the rest, it won't fish mouth. Keep up the videos, I'm a huge fan.
i knew you were a good guy. i could just tell. st judes is a great choice for a charity to donate to. may the force be with you for helping the younglings.
I’m Scottish so this is my pride. I hope to be able to pick up and swing a hammer again soon. Just had C3-C6 Spinal Fusion surgery a few weeks ago. This knife is awesome John!
I have been watching your videos for a couple of days now. Absolutely fantastic - thanks for sharing these. Definitely one of my two favourite bladesmiths to watch.
Man. That is beautiful work. A core element of blacksmithing is turning trash to treasure. And you've done that beautifully with that blade. And If you would donate to Mission 22 again, I'd love to watch you make another fantastic piece. You poored your heart into that dagger for mission 22, and I'd love to see you put that emotion into another weapon, maybe a tomahawk this time. Or a sword.
It was the knife that was hidden, in secret you hide it, black probably refers to the shadows symbolic to their hidden concealment. I think leaving it dark was a good choice very fitting and authentic to their use. Great video and forging.
Kudos for doing charity builds John, very nice Sgian Dubh, as a Scotsman I approve. Your handle shape looks comfortable, a good one is nice in the hand, as someone mentioned in another comment they are worn in the top of the sock or back in the day your "hose" and more commonly used as an eating utensil than stabbing your pals or enemies when drunk, although when needs must! You should build yourself another, complete with sheath and if you ever grow bored with it, the market for them is strong.
Wow man!!!!! I’m half way through this video and you editing is perfect!! Straight to the point and no nonsense. Great job brother!!! It’s looking sick so far!!!
As always great work. Its funny cuz u always make somethin out of the norm 4 the charity builds. N u always have that grin on ur face while sayin "man i really like this 1 i wish i could keep this 1" but hey u can always make anougher
Great video, beautiful blade. I really like the way you annealed the knife by putting it on the hot piece of steel. I plan on trying that method.I subbed.
Ironic as hell, because I'm doing a Sgian Dubh with a wrought iron bolster right now myself! Yours turned out awesome! BTW, I made a broch yesterday for scraping out those through tang holes. It will come in handy.
You do some great work wish I had a place to try making knifes. Hey I have three boys were the autism maybe an autism charity just a thought, keep up the great work. Beautiful knife.
You should make more of these and put them on your etsy store. It is really difficult finding a good USABLE Sgian Dubh that's not just ceremonial junk.
Lovely blade, though it does appear a wee bit big for a modern Sgian Dhu. Might need some extra-heavy-duty garters to keep that blade sitting still in the top of your kilt hose!
Looks amazing. Sgian Dubh means “black knife,” but it doesn’t necessarily mean the color. It has more to do with the intent of the knife’s use. It’s a hidden blade in your boot or kilt for “dark purposes.”
I think maybe a charity worth donating too would be for service dogs. Who served in combat and now need rehousing, I think you did this once before John but I can't remember the name of them.
Anti Antifa terrier working on a big order for one of my retailers that requires my full attention. Charity build video should be coming out next week. 10k sub giveaway coming up soon too. Don’t worry I’m not dead just yet

Outstanding! Thank you for helping families that can't afford medical treatments for their children.....

Great looking knife John! Always impressive!
St. Judes is a great charity because they send you address labels to thank you. Or they used to anyway.
You should make more of these and put them on your etsy store.
It is really difficult finding a good USABLE Sgian Dubh that's not just ceremonial junk.
"Not bad for a knife made of litteral garbage" haha you do great work man
I'm personally not a huge fan of that style of blade, but Dude John!!! That pattern turned out cool! Very pretty! Nicely done sir!

Lovely blade, though it does appear a wee bit big for a modern Sgian Dhu. Might need some extra-heavy-duty garters to keep that blade sitting still in the top of your kilt hose!
