      ya back then they basically made the tracks like an outdoor track. not tracks where they are in the air more than on the ground!

    Wow im sure ive seen this before but i heard savitski was a pro...from pennsylvania...but this is the first im seeing him ride....he used tobuild the supercross tracks 80s 90s for the AMA US supercross series an built tracks for the pro guys stanton an mcgrath larrocco personal practice tracks...i worked my first supercross race in new jersey 1988 ish an i met him an his crew then...it was a experience he was like me a racer and did a lot for safety an protecting downed rider something the flagger cant do while flagging i carried that for 10 years an now they have guys extra crew to help downed riders in blind areas its not easy to flag supercross the guys are in theair most of the time...david bailey commented how mcgrath was always surveying the track ahead while in the area a smart thing to do...very wise...

    @oliverkloesof - Thanks for responding. Sadly my Uncle Furman passed away suddenly at home here in Alabama. He got salmonella poisoning. He thought he had food poisoning and laid in bed sick for two days. 5th of July 2010 he was found in bed by his wife who had slept on the sofa. He was a Christian and is home now in Heaven. I would still love to get that Anaheim "1975" 500 cc race he was in. Do you know how I can purchase it??? It would mean a lot. I was close to him and still remember him rac

    @oliver kloesof - Sorry, didn't space your name correctly. Furman Gray was my moms younger Brother. I've been searching for old videos of him such as the 1977 Unadilla 500cc National. He pulls the hole shot over Bob Hannah. He had bike trouble there in NY and fell back to about 17-18. Bob Hannah fell out w/ bike trouble. The one race I want to see is 75' Anaheim. Furman was only 15. He may be the youngest to have ever raced Anaheim. My granddad had to travel with him and sign a written consent form for him to race. They allowed it only because he was turning 16 on Dec. 31.
    75' Anaheim was Dec. 13. Anyways it would be beat to know if any other 15 y/o ever raced there.
    Google: Furman Gray motocross pics and more. I listed a decent amount on Vitalmx. Should have him crashing at Anaheim. Tks

    please keep reposting this if it dies on youtube. great archive man. my inquiry is hannah was supposed to have won on a stock bike in 77. the swingarm is aluminum in this video which is not stock. so is it a 78 video or towards the end of the series did he start racing works parts? thx for the video

    • @barrycuda3769
      @barrycuda3769 Год назад +1

      Yeah' if Hannah's bike is stock ' with that swingarm i'ts a 78 model ' unless it's a 77 factory OW 250 'but the CR's are clearly 78 model's 'I'm pretty sure 77 RC 250's didn't look like the Hondas in this video. Hope this is still of interest to you after 11 years.

      If I remember right, it was Al Baker on an insanely modified Al Baker racing Honda XL 250. Al had his own racing products company and raced Desert, Motocross and Supercross just for some odd feeling. I think I was at this race, 'cause my old man took me to two Supercrosses that year. I know I was at the '77 Superbowl of Motocross at the LA Coliseum ' cause I still got the program and it is one of my favorite moto memro things from that era.

    @oliverkloesof - Are you familiar with earlier Anaheim Sx races? If so what year was it when Alabama's ( Furman Gray ) lead first two laps before coming over a 90 ft jump and his bike broke in half??? He is my Uncle and I would like to put together a video of races for him. Can't ask him because he would catch on. Was it 75, 76, 78???? If you know please help.

    Is this the infamous "Let Brock Pass" race?

  • @milesstandish7907
    @milesstandish7907 6 лет назад

    I still remember this race(I was(9-y/o) there on the 3rd base side). Guys were launching off that huge S/F jump and using every bit of suspension and air in their tires soaking up the landing. You don't really see jumps of that size with flat landings any more.
    I can't remember if it was this year or the next, when Hannah -with a huge lead- stopped on top of a jump and waited for the guy behind him(I wanna say it was Marty Smith, but my memory is a tad foggy on it) to catch and pass him, only to re-pass the dude again.
    Something else you don't see anymore-not that you saw anyone else do it back then either

    • @donrutter6765
      @donrutter6765 6 лет назад

      The sponsors used to tell Hannah to lose the race to someone else on certain days. Sometimes he would, sometimes he said fukem.

      Just seen this clip for the first time...the incident you are likely talking about involved Kent Howerton. Bobs first race after returning from a broken leg sustained while water sking with Marty Tripes. Kent was messing with Bob and that really riled the Hurricane so Bob t-boned him. Twice simultaneously Took two hits to bring him down...then Bob realized he was gonna be in deep trouble with the AMA so he did just that and actually parked on a jump and let Kent pass only to legally repass him. Only seen the clip once and Bob himself was narrating the action. The best part is as Kent is passing by... Bob is cursing him out. The other great thing was the save Kent made after the first strike.

    supercross now is so boring compared to then. look how rough that track is. that's what made it so exciting, the different lines the riders would take and the blowing up of berms! are there any berms in today's supercross? they bulldoze any roughness on the track. WIMPS!
