If you aren't fishing this pattern, you are missing out. Strawberry, Currant Creek, Henry's Lake. This is the minnow fly you are looking for. Duh, fish eat minnows. This is this first one I've ever found that actually looks like one.
Let me clarify - who cares what I think it looks like - althought that does help to promote it - you've seen the video they posted at Strawberry. Double at Currant Creek, a cutt and tiger on a 2 fly rig, along with many others. Brook trout at Henry's Lake loved it, at least 15 yesterday. I need to test at Silver Creek next.

Great fly! Looks a lot like one I use to catch big pikeminnow in spring. I use it to imitate the salmon fry going downstream. I like the added weight and marabou tail though. I'll definitely have to give it a try :)
Hey guys... so the thick resin gets sticky... it’s the same type “resin” that is women use on our nails... if the sticky, bothers you grab a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and just wipe it down. Perks of being a girl 🙋🏼♀️💅🏼🎣
Yup. That works, but there are lots of tack free resins now as well.

I just tied 6 of these with micro spines (game changer style) and a 3/16th eye.
You need to try this.
The way they move on a non-slip loop knot= amazing!
Think jerk bait or fluke.
Hint 1: trim the Bruiser Blend to match each section.
Hint 2: use heavy tippet 10lb+.

i can tell you exactly what that hook is. look up a "hair rig" for carp that hook looks absolutely perfect for that. it's common more in England where carp are seen as more of a sport fish by bait fisherman instead of a trash fish like in the united states. awesome fly as always cheech!
Do you fish these for smallmouth bass or mostly just trout/whitefish/greyling type fish?
I've been catching perch and smallies with this fly off the dock at my cabin. Swing em on a spey rod for steelhead in California valley too. It can do it all

You guys are great, all the materials arrived and first fly tied. You should tie one without the eyes and have a fish-off to see if the eyes really make a difference to the fish.

Can you describe or demonstrate how you tie in the red lateral line for the Red Side Shiner ? I've tied it in and it looks OK but I would like to see if you have a better way or a tip that would help. Thank you sir!

Nice pattern!! "Match the Hatch" fry streamers like the Baby Fat Minnow are my favorite patterns to use. Of the thousands of eggs laid in the spring a very large portion of the fry are eaten before the reach 2 inches in length - the predators are always on the lookout for these easy snacks and readily take an imitation of the right size/color. I tie mine with bead-chain eyes to make them ride hook-point up to make them semi-weedless.
I have a question about this. Do you attach the dubbing between the bead chain and the hook eye? Or on the hook bend side of the bead chain? I really like bead chain hook point up streamers.
I usually use a dubbing loop instead of just dubbing the materials on the thread and brushing them out. I made myself a small (6 inch) dubbing brush table to make composite brushes and find I am using it for many of my flies. Like the way I can mix fiber color, length and control the distribution/density of them with a brush. To answer your question, on this fly, because I tie the bead chain fairly close to the hook eye I stop my dubbing behind the eye. Cheers! Hank

The location of the bead-eyes and what materials are used affects how the fly fishes. Large eyes near the hook eye (especially lead eyes on a short shank hook) will cause a pronounced jigging action. Adding a clipped deer-hair head/collar will dampen that but you will need to use a regular shank hook. Moving the eyes back will result in a gentler bobbing/gliding action especially if you add a buck-tail tail. You really need to try a couple of things to see what results you get. I tie my sculpin imitations so that they settle to bottom with the head more buoyant than the tail so that when I give them a strip they rise up and settle again; same with sucker imitations. Shiners and dace swim erratically higher up in the water column; chub are more sedate and prefer to be closer to the bottom - I tie the flies to suit. I made an 6" wide, 24" long and 18" deep aquarium that I test all my patterns/materials in that is real convenient. Hope this helps.

Nice pattern lads. Real nice! Ive been using the FM Stinger hook this past year and love them. Will try these hooks also, they look gnarly- in a good way. Do you know if the FM Teflon coated hooks are saltwater friendly? I havent been able to find the answer anywhere? Keep up the good work. Cheers.
