Ninja Woodfire Vs Traeger Ranger Pellet Grill

  • Two Portable Pellet Grills, the Ninja Woodfire and the Traeger Ranger, both very capable, but which would you go for?
This Ninja Woodfire Grill is a multi use grill with smoke, airfry, grill and roast functions among others, the heat source is elecctric, and the smoke flavour comes from a small pellet burner which gives a smokiness to your food whatever the cooking temperature, it is perfect for anyone looking for an outdoor grill that's compact and easy to use.
The Traeger Ranger is a more traditional pellet grill that uses wood pellets for the heat source and smoke, generally with pellet grills like this the higher the temperature the cleaner the smoke, but at the higher temperatures here, it was hard to detect smoke on the food.
I opted for boneless chicken thighs to see how crispy they get at max temperature, and steaks on the grill plate to see how well they sear.
What else should I have cooked to test these units, let me know below.

Important point to note for anyone considering running one of these on the beach with a portable power station is the electricity consumption when in use. The Traeger needs about 150/200w on start up but once running its around 20-40W so will last a fair while on even the smaller power stations. The Ninja requires a massive amount so would basically be a no go for portable use without an electrical hookup.

Just bought a ranger about a week ago. I'm sure both are great. All I gotta say is zero regrets. Everythings come out perfect on it. I don't see myself slowing down on using it through the rest of summer.

Awesome review. Same I have the ninja and Treager Trailhead Costco version of the Ranger without the griddle. The Ninja does impress me for the speed and crispy option “air fryer”. My opinion fish, veggie, burger Pattie’s, chicken wings goes ninja. Beef / pork meat or ribs goes to the Treager slow and low. Either ways both have it advantages. 🤙

Great comparison! But to me I want something that heats fast and that efficient on power bill savings. I chose the ninja because it's a better option for me. All I have to do is adjust my temps and the food turns out great!

I like both, but the Traeger allows smoke to get on all sides of your meat versus the grill on the Ninja. My concern with the Ninja is the Air Fryer taking in all that grease over time and seizing up.

You can get some all round on the ninja too, using the crisper basket. I've not heard of any issues with fans seizing up.

Temperature control, speed and not having to buy so many pellets or briquets sells the Ninja for me. I have their belnder and air fryer but dislike cooking inside, so this is ideal.

Great video Marcus, I have the Ranger, it is garbage, inconsistent temp, back burn fires, just issue laden. The only thing going for it is that it comes with a temperature probe. Save yourself the hassle and get the ninja and buy a Bluetooth temp probe. ❤

  • @bbqislife
    @bbqislife Год назад +2

I have got both and started using them relatively at the same time. I've not been impressed with the Ranger as it has struggled to hold or get to low temps often shutting itself off with errors. The Ranger of course does produce tastier protein. The Ninja never fails but it's essentially a air fryer that blows smoke. Have packed up the Ranger for now.

My Ranger never has issues with temp. I smoke from 180 to 275 regularly without issue. If your Ranger is turning off you have a bad machine.

Great video thanks! Looking for an electric option for an apartment balcony and this really helped. I see you also have used the Weber Lumin, how would you say it compares to the Ninja Woodfire? Not too concerned with portability or features other than grilling and smoking, flavour and ease of use/cleaning are really what I'm looking for. Also wondering if you've tried these in the winters at all? I get similar weather to the UK and would love something I could use year round.

    • @CountryWoodSmoke

Lumin is great too. Definitely more of a grill... if you want burgers and steaks, the lumin could be a good shout, the ninja is just perfect for smoking and crispy chicken
