Ching Shih is a good inspiration in my opinion, not just because she's quite novel when compared to the very stereotyped Blackbeard inspired pirate, and in my opinion asian pirates are way scarier than western ones, mostly because their fleets and influence were way bigger.
Here's the thing, everyone talking about blackbeard but what about Roberts, the man who created the pirate code and was also the most succesful pirate to ever live according to history.
Well, that was actually an interesting counter argument for why Ching Shih is better as the inspiration than Blackbeard. I never realized Blackbeard’s reign of terror was actually only a year or so. I figured he lasted longer than that. Although, one thing that I do wonder about: Did Ching Shih and her Red Flag Fleet used guns? I have read that unlike most Chinese pirates, she and her fleet didn’t really used guns, which does make her final battle against the Qing Dynasty, Portugal, and I believe the British as well more impressive if she manage to fight them off with just swords and bows. It is rather ironic that the hero inspired by her uses a pistol extensively in her move set if that really was the case.

He also went back to piracy after a short break at a plantation. Shih never went back for more. Additionally, you tried to make it sound like the pirate life is about freedom, not quick money. Alright, let's discuss Blackbeards history. "He died leading his men in boarding a sloop full of marines and succubmed to 5 gunshot sounds and over 20 sword wounds. He also went back to piracy after a short break at a plantation." This is a clear romanticization of Blackbeard, and is carefully phrased to make him look better. Watch this: "Blackbeard accepted a pardon to avoid consequences for his piracy, but couldn't cut it as a plantation owner, and decided to go back to piracy. However, literally only a month or two after returning to piracy, he was ambushed by the marines and killed before he could do anything of note." THAT phrasing demonstrates a much less flattering vision of Blackbeard, but is no less true. You can embellish whatever you want, but facts are facts: Blackbeard was active for for far fewer years than Shih, took a pardon, tried to get back in the game, died trying. So sorry...Blackbeard REMAINS overrated. "Shih never went back for more." ...She didn't need to. She literally went to the fucking Chinese government and DICTATED THE TERMS to them. She not only was pardoned, she got everything she wanted out of it to get her crew and herself successful and profitable lives. She was smart enough to know when to cash in her chips and take the win. Blackbeard, meanwhile, had a midlife crisis and wanted to relive the glory days, only for it to bite him in the ass. "Additionally, you tried to make it sound like the pirate life is about freedom, not quick money." ...Didn't you literally just try to sell off an over embellished version of Blackbeards death to me to make him sound more valiant? Bruh. And when did I say it wasn't about making money? When on EARTH did I say that. Time stamp it for me, please? "I think Shih deserves to be the inspiration of pirate in FH, but you also tried to downplay black beard and make him sound more pathetic than he was." You need to understand that when Pirate was announced in FH, the community was up in arms because they wanted Blackbeard. Go check out my videos at the time and see all the comments saying they wanted pirates like Blackbeard or Jack Sparrow or whatever. So I was pointing out the truth about Blackbeard: He's incredibly overrated. I'm not saying he isn't worthy of a legacy, I'm saying that all the people commenting on my videos and saying 'Blackbeard better' don't know anything about him. I wouldn't even call him the greatest pirate of the Carribean. He just has the most presence.
@@RavenKnightYT My point exactly. We both have the same information, just different interpretations on it. You didn't say much wrong (other than freedom being a factor in someone choosing to be a pirate, most of them did it because it was their best financial option and weren't financially secure enough to care about being free) but you choose to downplay black beard to support Ubisoft's choice to have Shih as the hero. Anyone can see that blackbeard was cool but his accomplishments are nothing compared to Shihs, except the FH community doesn't think logically, they think emotionally. I intentionally downplayed Shih in my comment to show how easy it is for interpretation to sway how you present facts. I agree with your last point that even if they chose a pirate from the golden age of piracy, there are better options. Hornigold and Black Bart Roberts would be better choices.

Which means if she didn't the Chinese government can jack up the prices to afford the richer lifestyle a noble would come to expect. And then conviently blame it on those "evil" pirates. The same could be said about there feats. Many could be disputed even if they defently happened simply thanks to how slow news travels back then. The problem is the same problem with blackbeard and the rest. That is unless you actually witnessed them doing it or have solid evidence of them doing it that comes from somewhere else then national leaders or government documents. Then it's very hard to see what's true and what isn't. As it would of bennifeted the Chinese government to tell the people of China that she didn't control the spice trade if she did and she did controll it if she didn't. It's like having a pervevol "Satan" or "boogyman". It's someone you can blame everything on including poor leadership or fincial desecions. We know some things that is a guaranteed truth about pirates such as certain ones taking a nation becluse other sources backed that up. Sources that would not bennifit at all if it's found true or false which means they had a lot mode reason to state the truth. The simple fact is many of her legend came from word of mouth spread by the government and documents written by the government. We have a very similar problem with blackbeard. For instance I can't tell you with 100 percent strength weither or not blackbeard did actually serve under that pirate, or weither he ever put wicks in his hair to set alight. Simply becouse many sources that talked about him would bennifit if he was seen in a certain light. For instance I can't even tell you if blackebeard really died after only a year. Becouse let's be honest based on just his stories it would be pretty obvious that you would know blackbeard if you saw him. But what if we took away a lot of what could of been bluffing? Then would you know him if you saw him? Did he really die off the coast of North Carolina, did she really die at the age of 69. These are questions that we can't anwser becouse the truth is we have no real witness accounts of either. It would bennifit the British greatly to say they killed blackbeard, and it would of bennifited china to say that she retired at to live to be old. But then again even with her old age most people at the time didn't live to be that old in China. There Healthcare at the time even for the rich wasn't exactly groundbreaking. So the question remains is this really true? It's a question that historians and scientist constantly fight with.

F*** Blackbeard I like how they decided to be unique and choose someone underappreciated
Agreed. Blackbeard is cool and all, but he's extremely cliche; I like how they decided to go with a Chinese pirate this time.
Should have been Shay Cormac
Guy ain't even a pirate.
i would love to give the new hero a try but the fact that you can't play as a male is just stupid.
