Alan, that absolutely the coolest thing to let us watch #92 backing into Tampa.. I'll be sure to take it south from Baltimore to meet my Royal Caribbean cruise next year....Many Thanks....
This makes me want to get on a train and go somewhere. I've rode from Savannah, Ga. to Miami, Fla. on the Silver Metro and it was a great trip. Thanks for posting this.
+FECSD70M2 PRODUCTIONS it went to tampa 10 years ago but since then no more I ride Amtrak every week down here and live near the tracks and watch it go by. it is train number 92 look at the schedule at Amtrak.com
From here in Tampa to New York City it is 1,000 miles. It makes about 25 stops. It takes about 24 to 26 hours to travel that distance. In a car straight driving in which I did a month ago about 18 hours.
Excellent camera work, Alan. There are many railfans who could learn to make their video's so much better by studying your techniques. Keep up the good work!
Thousands!!! When I was a teenager I went on a train almost everyday from New Jersey to New York with my train conductors and engineer friends. I have over 1 million miles on trains.
Great video. I really like how you explained what was happening. If Atlanta gets a new downtown intermodal transportation station, Amtrak Crescent will probably have to do some backing in.
@Millenniumforce Very nice video! I was just on train 92 yesterday 5/55/11. the last car's whistle did not work and the road crossing gate had problem to come down. They ended up have one of the conductor and two other guys using the flag to stop the traffic for each of the crossing all the way from the K switch back into union station. took a good 45 min.
Cool video. Gonna be riding the Silver Star through TPA again later this month. Tampa needs more Amtrak service than only 1 train. I think it would be cool to have regional trains from TUS to St Pete, Sarasota, & Brooksville.
Thanks, for a quick aerial view of the station, it seemed like they should load on the side opposite the train from Nuccio Parkway. But now I see that there are several tracks in varying states of repair and I guess the one they choose puts the station out of view from those boarding. If they were on the other side, they'd see where the station was the instant they stepped out.
Only Temporarily For Some Weekends Because They Are Building A New Passenger Rail Service In Orlando. But Train 92 And 91 Does Come To Tampa. I Watched One Today
The movement of the train is called running the Y , thats how they change directions on that part of the road. I worked on 81 - 82 Tampa to Venice many years ago.
A lot of single signals turn on when the train enters the block and goes out when they leave the block to save energy and the bulb from burning out. Where there is a lot of train traffic all the time and yards they stay on.
I see you're a railfan too that's awesome nice video too buddy... I have a few and plan on doing more whenever I get around to it again. I'm planning on doing one or two under train vids as well we'll see how that goes lol.. keep bringing us the good stuff. see ya...
A K-turn in auto mobiles is you go foward, stop, turn your wheel to right or left, back up a little bit then stop. Turn your wheel in the other direction, then go foward in the direction you came from. Same thing the train did!! LOL
Cool video. Gonna be riding the Silver Star through TPA again later this month. Tampa needs more Amtrak service than only 1 train. I think it would be cool to have regional trains from TUS to St Pete, Sarasota, & Brooksville. (If the Silver Star is on time, right after it leaves TUS a waiter walks the train taking reservations for dinner in the Dining Car)
Fantastic video, why do the signals go dark after the train passes instead of remaining on a red signal? Thanks again for explaining throughout this video.
The speed at which you take a switch is limited only by the speed the switch is designed for, and how well it is maintained. If a 30MPH switch is well maintained, you can take it backing up at 30MPH. Of course, there are other concerns about going fast while backing up, but switches aren't usually one of them.
Yep, the station is not off the main line like most stations are so they have to back into the station, when they depart they get back on the main heading either north or south
Thank you for your comment! Yes I agree with you in what you wrote but sometimes you gt to take a chance t get that right video just lik storm chasers.
Hello Al, You have posted some very nice videos and they bring back memories of a past trip to FL on the old SCL. Thank you. How many of these lines that you have recorded are the former SAL or ACL?
Nice video. I enjoyed watching it. I used to live in Florida in the 60's and used to visit TUS when it was a real action place. Now it is a graveyard mainly. Does the train originate in Miami or does it stay overnight in Tampa to connect in Jacksonville?
Enjoyed the video. Yes, in car driving, this is a k turn. However, in conventional railroading lingo this is technically a "Wye" move. Didn't see the train turn it's wheels. ;) The vantage from which this video is shot is technically trespassing, though. I encourage photo and videographers to stay 10 ft from the outermost track unless on a station platform. Last week, an experienced railfan was killed by a train.
Nice video and be careful you don't get in trouble with the railroad or the law because under both thier jurisdiction you are trespassing on railroad property.
Cool! thanks for sharing. What is the name of this train? Or does it have a name? Tampa to NY. Wow, what a train ride. It would be cool to take that one. I grew up in the Orlando area. Everyone except me have been back to FL. Someday! Thanks for the narration and video! I'm just starting to get back into trains so I have a lot to learn!
@ACLTony Hello, In this video I was filming just east of Ybor City on Broadway near 40th st. I usually film in Tampa Seffner Plant City and Lakeland. I live in Dover and the train tracks are right across the street. I see Tropcana go by every day.
Alan, that absolutely the coolest thing to let us watch #92 backing into Tampa.. I'll be sure to take it south from Baltimore to meet my Royal Caribbean cruise next year....Many Thanks....
I love filming trains in Tampa. Ybor City rocks!

This makes me want to get on a train and go somewhere. I've rode from Savannah, Ga. to Miami, Fla. on the Silver Metro and it was a great trip. Thanks for posting this.
Well done. Thanks. We used to take it from Tampa to NYC in the 1990s when one section went to Tampa and the other to Miami!
I think your mistaking that for the silver meteor.
+FECSD70M2 PRODUCTIONS Meteor dosn't service Tampa Florida
Millenniumforce Trust me Alan, I've taken it before and it DEFINETELY went to Tampa!
+FECSD70M2 PRODUCTIONS it went to tampa 10 years ago but since then no more I ride Amtrak every week down here and live near the tracks and watch it go by. it is train number 92 look at the schedule at Amtrak.com

The Silver Star Runs From Miami Tampa Orlando Jacksonville then to New York with many other stops on the way. Over 1,000 miles and 30 hours of travel.

Is Neve Wye the beginning of the track that goes to St Petersburg, winding its way through North Tampa, Town N Country, Oldsmar, & Clearwater?
I know they come to Tampa have seem them myself but the website directs you to orlando via bus from the tampa station.

A little ahead, a little back, clunkety-bunk, rickety-rick. Ah, American passenger railroadin' in 2013! Well, I guess it has a certain charm...
@ACLTony Hello, In this video I was filming just east of Ybor City on Broadway near 40th st. I usually film in Tampa Seffner Plant City and Lakeland. I live in Dover and the train tracks are right across the street. I see Tropcana go by every day.
Ive been over in Plant city. nice place..
Hello Millenium, where were you when you were east of Downtown? Were you in Mango, Seffner, or Dover?
People may think 80mph is nothing but when you see it aside a train it turns heads.
cool vid
