A mechanical engineer once told me, that when you hear that potato-potato-potato engine sound.....that is an engine out of balance and starving for air.....but it does sound cool
@@fizzybubalach That was my belief for many years, until I got it explained as due to the firing order which in fact smooths out vibrations when revving.Edit: I rewatched Fortnines video”Why are people buying Harleys”. It’s an extra ignition in the third stroke of the four -stroke engine, that creates the soft third syllable in po-ta-to. A sound design they tried to patent.
There once was a ship that put to sea The name of the ship was the Billy of Tea The winds blew up, her bow dipped down Oh blow, my bully boys, blow (huh) Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguing is done We'll take our leave and go
OK, that's very nice. I can dial the idle down on my Jap V twin until it sounds like that too, of course, but there are two cylinders, while "potato" has three syllables, so what exactly is going on there? Anyone? Let's have the pulse sequence described in detail. I suspect that one of the syllables in "potato" is an intake pulse, and that the other intake pulse (remember there are still two cylinders to feed) is too close to one of the exhaust pulses to be heard as a separate syllable, but I haven't proven it and so I don't actually know. My theory would explain the fact that one of the three syllables is markedly quieter than the other two.
@@corneilcorneil Fine, and that's just like any v-twin, with only slight variations in the angles. In any case that's still only two "syllables", followed by a gap, and then two more syllables, etc. Without a third pulse, you don't get "po-ta-to". You only get "Pot-a, pot-a, pot-a, pot-a..."
@@omnivore2220 You gave the answer yourself and i explained it by numbers. If you have a huge gap, you have a in and out stroke real close to eachother. Most V twins have a much shorter stroke.
I guess that’s why they’re called “steel horses.”
An old cowboy went ridding out one dark and windy day.
this sound deserve 1 hour loop version!!
right click video and select loop. Enjoy
@@OldManTupX lol I didn’t know that was possible until now, thank you
It’s Music to my ears👌
YES PLZ AEMEM GODBLES
Sounds like a horse running. Amazing!
Sounds like a field mule after a 16 hr day pulling a plow. But we know Harleys don’t last that long
Evolution engines lasted forever wise ass
How your iron horse wakes you up wanting to go for a ride. You've trained it well. ☺️👍 They're so cute at that age. 🐎
Thank you 🤗
We metal lovers recognize that sound
Can’t wait to get back on an evo. I have an m8 right now and wish I bought an older harley.
This showed up on my feed because I was looking for an evolution , stock, 1992 to 1995 Fatboy on Facebook 😊. Thanks for sharing your bikes voice.
Rock on!🤙
Wow those exhausts looking mean, looks like the Harley from the terminator
He rides a Fatboy in it.
Bad ass bike man! Congratulations on keeping her so clean.
Lol sounds more like a cartoon horse galloping but still sounds good
Yes yes yes 🙌
Great, now I can't unhear potato.
What a Great Sound ❤️
What a beautiful song🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻Harley FOREVER!
Sounds like a horse galloping jovially! Love it!
sounds like a cowboy riding on his horse in Texas!
A mechanical engineer once told me, that when you hear that potato-potato-potato engine sound.....that is an engine out of balance and starving for air.....but it does sound cool
its basically true. Harley's engines are not the most efficient and precise piece of engineering but damn i love it

just made this my ring tone
Same
Sounds like a horse galloping. I love it
Well, an old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
I saw one at a stop light the other day. Damn those handle bars vibrate a lot.
the engine and handle bars rubber mounted when you're moving smooth when you stop it shakes
Shovels are worse than Evo
Dynas are rubber mounted ,not softails.
Mind u my twin cam FLSTF Does not seem to vibrate at all.
Horse Trot 🐎 great sound ❤️
ican just listen to that all day long
this video needs to be longer about an hour long....
Music to my ears 👍
dear god that is beautiful
damn i love that sound
I can hear all day!
Aww that's cute, tryin to sound like a shovel head 🥰❣
😆 yup
If it were a Shovelhead he'd still be trying to get it to crank
Shovelheads are usually silent......🤣
Just like a shovel head minus the clanky transmission and the p

Yeah, I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road
I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more

And that is exactly the same kind of bike they used in Terminator 10-4
Yep a 1340 cc 80 cube FLSTF.Unmistakable solid wheels..I have same wheels on my 02 FLSTF.

Такой замечательный звук мотора
Like a horses sound walking amazing very likely
Is it a carb or direct injection? I am wondering DR would make that beautiful sound. And how?
Damn 😮
put the Ghost rider in the sky guitar on the backsound

That's a Harley real.
Sounds like a horse galloping loo😂
I did not realise a potato made noise
Didn’t find any potato’s here.

Классно звучит!
Sounds like a galloping horse
That bike sounds like its about to die 💀
How is that sound achievable? If any mechanics can explain I’d love to learn
Start with a Harley that has an Evolution motor ('84 to '99). Adjust idle to taste. Enjoy.
👍👍👍🤘😎
すばらしい排気音ですね!
I 3D printed myself a model of these engines
They need to work on that skip
What year is this bike?
What cam inside?
2016 drake woulda gone in on this
They sure don’t sound like that anymore
Please show me your timing plate position :)
Me too man. Me too.
What cam is that
sounds like horse running
😄😄
How to make less than 50 HP sound like a lot more.
What bike is this exactly?
hear it in 0.5/0.75 playback speed -- thank me later :)
Sound of tracktor
I've been riding almost 20 yrs , mostly dynas and sporty, I still don't F****** hear it! I hear a galloping horse if anything.
Love that idle sound, but it kills the engine.
there is a Harley thats called potato? ... need one xD i'm stupid... now I now what potato sound means...lol
Ring tone for me
😋
Is this at idle? Sounds like the slowest rpm I've ever heard
now understand that the sound comes from an out of balance engine starving for air
If it was starving for air it wouldn’t be running…
Literally can count the rpm
That isnt potato sound!!! Thats more like a horse galloping
This sound track is too cool. Nothing else smells like napalm in the morning , that gasoline smell.......😆
Softail fatboy 1991?

The disgusting racket that bugs regular people all the time, 😮

The cylinders on a HD fire at 315 degrees apart, followed by a 405 degree gap.
