Installing 3D Wall Panels DIY | The Carpenter's Daughter

  • Hi everyone,
    So after last week's rough plastering video, I shared with you how I roughly plastered a wall ( • How to Plaster Walls B... ). But today I'm finally showing you how I installed these stylish 3D wall panels. My home feels like the show home I never had!
    Here's my blogpost with photos of how it turned out
    bit.ly/2w1CB9W
    I'd originally got a quote a few months back of over £300 to plaster these areas and some chased cables and couldn't believe what figure I heard. My parents pay £80 a whole wall and some of you tell me you pay £120 a day.
    So I started to think about DIY options, like a palette effect, mosaic tiles or anything that I knew would make features out of them. But then I was given the option to review some 3D wall panels by ManoMano which couldn't've worked out any better for me. (Note this is NOT a sponsored video).
    I took a while deciding on the pattern as there's loads to choose from. But my spaces were awkward and by chance, one wall was bang on a perfect fit, and the other area needed a little bit of trim.
    Note, they're not fire retardant. They're made from bamboo pulp, so you really need to think about whether it's safe in your home, but I'm in a bungalow with easy access to outside from every room. But I NOT a health and safety expert.
    So here it is if you want to know how to fit them, or just weigh them up to see if they're right for you and I hope it helps!
    Here's the manomano site if you want to check them out: manomano.co.uk/
    Mano Mano 3D Wall Panels (I used 1 pack for my 3 areas = 12 tiles): bit.ly/2tepoWd
    As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases made through links.
    Other things I Used:
    12 bottles of Gripfill: bit.ly/2toX8UQ
    No More Nails (I used non-waterproof though): bit.ly/2vASYpP
    Sugar soap for painted walls (or soapy water): bit.ly/2uHxrza
    Sealant gun like mine: bit.ly/2u6V3tW
    Wooden trim depending on the size you need - you should find many options in DIY stores, usually 2400mm long.
    White Decorator's Caulk that I already had - this should be perfect: bit.ly/2vh5PxO
    Dulux Easy Care Pure Brilliant White: geni.us/BAQSug [Amazon]
    Dulux Easy Care Denim Drift: bit.ly/2te7XoP
    I'll also share a blog post very soon with a hall way tour as I've had a lot of questions regarding paint colour etc.

    Nice - great results and again saving u loads! recommend on these panels that you bang them with side of your hand to get the glue to grip! For PVC products consider whether they are likely to get hot in direct sunlight as they will expand along their length.

    Just curious why you didn't use nails/brads/staples/screws too? They hold panels/gyprock/trim/moulding etc in place until the adhesive goes off & then you don't need quite as much adhesive.

    How do you hand pictures or wall decor to hang on wall after putting this panels? Whats the trick. Thanks

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  2 года назад

      I wouldn't really advise it, which is a massive downfall to these panels, so only put it on sections where I wouldn't hang things.

    Sweetie if you have blended with calc use next time putty knife it’s work better than sponge and after paint you didn’t see something it’s two pieces

    Waht kind of this panel glue?

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  4 года назад

      I mostly used gripfill adhesive which is not my favourite to apply. I find the cardboard tube twists more and more in the gun. I much preferred just using the last tube, No More Nails. It was so much easier to apply without the hand ache!

  • @garydouglass9577
    @garydouglass9577 6 лет назад +1

    If you get any tubes of adhesive,silicone etc that are hard to squeeze out the gun, stand the tubes in warm water for a bit and they flow a lot better 😀

    Again a brill vid :D
    A plasterer or any reputable tradesperson will charge for overheads running cost, take-home pay and some profit, in return you will and should provide you with peace of mind and do the job to the highest quality and offer an warranty or guarantee on workmanship and materials
    but like anything in life it should be a fair exchange

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you. My heart sank when I got quoted that. I really wanted to find a plasterer to take it off my hands (and have a contact for later down the line in this house) but it's not in my blood if I don't feel it's good value.

    Did you get ANY other quotes from anyone else? A lot of DIYs, don't realize what they are getting themselves into until its too late.
    Also, I assume you own the house since you are closing off doorways with cinder block. Also, you maybe violating fire codes with your DIY.
