At first, my initial thought was, "Why isn't this father's reaction more...dramatic/worrisome?" But, as a parent myself, I absolutely could relate to how he said the boy himself would freak out if he was overly emotional about the situation. I thank God the lifeguards noticed him wandering alone when they did before some other unsavory character got a hold of him and he got hurt - or worse!

That little boy so adorable reminds me of my son when he would go missing in the supermarket, luckily I always told him if you loss mummy go to a supermarket worker and tell them your lost.
Well done maxi your going to be a great father one day.

For cases like this German lifeguards installed the kiddie searching bracelet system at German beaches.
Parents can get bracelets made out of silicone for their children at a lifeguard tower. There is a unique number carved in each bracelet. Parents can leave important data e.g. their phone number and the name of the child at the tower. Everything is registered in a central list.
When a lifeguard finds a lonely child at the beach he radios to the main tower. The main tower can call the parents who can pick up the child at the tower where it was found. This system makes a lot of work unnecessary and easier. The system works out very well at German beaches although I know that this system is difficult to handle at more crowded beaches. In my opinion it isn't perfect yet, but there is potential to optimise it.
A nice effect which comes with the system also is that parents and children are more aware of the danger of getting lost. So everyone is more careful and watches his children better. We noticed that fewer children getting lost now.
