How the fuck is he so calm while blasting that fast? This guy is unreal
focus, passion, undivided attention and rigorous training every single day for decades
Let's face it: for as technical, driving and fast drumming is in the extreme metal genres, there's not a whole lot of variety and ingenuity out there. With most bands you're going to hear the same blast beats and breakdowns. and that's not to knock it cuz it's the drumming more than anything else that makes me such a fan of extreme metal, there's nothing like the power of lightning fast double bass grooves. But man, Jamie St Merat is the one guy more than any other that breaks the mold. I wonder what kind of ADD he had growing up Lol. The technicality of his playing is enough to blow your mind, then add to it the variety, the limitless variations on beats and fills and you have a guy who i believe shows more ingenuity than any drummer in any genre EVER

JParks1981 I have been searching across all genres but unable to find any drummer who comes close to Jamie St Merat in terms of fluency, flow, technicality and creativity. He is Gavin Harrison + Speed.

I think Zach Hill of Hella is definitely equal in this kind of variation, density, and technicality. Possibly even greater, even with only one kick pedal. He does lightning fast doubles, triples, and even quads with just his right foot, and supplements those with lots of different tom rolls. But these are also very different drumming styles, avant math rock and avant tech death, but I absolutely love both. I'm kind of fascinated with how Jamie seems to only ever use half time beats and blasts and nothing in between. It's like the song itself is never very fast but he can make it blaze on a whim.

It's a mess. They need to get coordinated.
They are so fucking coordinated that it sound like jumbled up garbage upon first listen. Give it about a month or so, keep digesting it soon the beauty of the passages becomes clear.
