  • My first reaction & honest thoughts to Dimash Kudaibergen singing "Sinful Passion" live. The emotions and charisma he incorporates into his performance completely blows the audience away! He does a great job with articulating his consonants and using precise airflow to sing his story.
    The first half of this video will entail my reaction to Dimash's live performance, then I will talk about my honest thoughts to his song.

      Did you buy your tickets before the pandemic interrupted Dimash on tour? If so, you have been very patient. I had seen him in Latvia in the March, three weeks before our U.K. lockdown. I was panicking it might get cancelled. Dimash gave me so much entertainment on you tube during this very sad time for many many people. My daughter has just moved to Dubai and has surprised me with two tickets. . So excited.

    A-Studio is a band that was originally from Kazakhstan. Their keyboard player, Baigali Serkebaev, composed this song together with the poet Ilia Reznik in 1998. Unfortunately, the lead singer of the A-Studio band died in 2015.
    Yes, Dimash really made those sounds. Some call it a "glottal stop" and it is fundamental to Arabic singing as practiced in Kazakhstan as well as other parts of Asia. A Kazakh commented that Dimash used a singing technique called 'komeymen aytu' or Tuvan throat singing. Dimash honored the deceased singer with this tribal vocalization. Dimash has used throat singing in other performances as well, either performed by himself or as part of the accompaniment. Both Dimash and Erlan Bekchurin, who arranges most of Dinash’s songs, are steeped in Kazakh folk music. If you listen closely, you will hear echoes of that in most of his songs.

    • @stefaniaveselinova1277
      @stefaniaveselinova1277 2 года назад +3

      This technique is not only in Arabic, for Bulgarian folklore, for example, is also typical.

    • @heiderosekober379
      @heiderosekober379 2 года назад +4

      @@stefaniaveselinova1277 Yes, you are right, of course, as the technique is part of the Turkic People's heritage. However, regional groups have their own variations and call it by different names.

      @Jeffrey Hack Music
      You said that you didn’t want your videos to be longer than 11-12 minutes, but I HIGHLY recommend if you’re going to do Daybreak, to do a double reaction to first the Singer 2017 version with backstory on G Wu’s channel, and THEN the Bastau concert version. It irks me so bad when one is requested without the other. The first is absolutely essential for the backstory and to explain the (Chinese) lyrics. The song is all but nothing without the meaning. Afterwards, the Bastau version is essential to see full vocal performance (as he was extremely ill with a throat infection in the Singer). Imo, this is one of the greatest vocal performances in history. But again, you need to understand the meaning to get the full emotional effect.
      I *guarantee* you won’t lose Dears’ views by making a longer video for that one.

    I’m pretty sure by now someone’s told you but his pianist is master composer Igor Krutoy. He was semi-retired at the time, and came out of retirement after this to work with Dimash. Since then the two of them have collaborated on quite a number of songs. Krutoy writes for his skills and range so well-Ogni Pietra, Stranger, Ave Maria, Ulisse, etc.

    Loved your ‘extended’ reaction Jeffrey - definitely don’t mind your reactions going over 11 minutes because your reactions are interesting and I love hearing your professional opinions on Dimash and his incredible talent.
    I don’t think Dimash has anything close to metal but he’d definitely kill the genre if he did. And, yes, that was all him - as others have mentioned his performance of Stranger from ‘Shine! Super Brothers’ show (different version to the one you reacted to) shows his incredible vocal ability. His Diva Dance performance at his Bastau concert also shows how agile he is - it’s his interpretation of the blue alien song from the movie The Fifth Element (parts which were computerised with the belief that no human could replicate the song) - worth watching along with everything he does - mind blowing. Would love more Dimash reactions 🙏🏻🇦🇺

    Here’s to Dimash.
    Thanks for another great reaction. I’m so glad you kept it to less than 11 minutes 😂
    Sinful Passion was originally written and performed in 1998 by a Russian-based Kazakh band called A-Studio who also accompanied Dimash for this performance.
    The gentleman in white who gave him a standing ovation is Igor Krutoy, a famous Russian composer, who's written several amazing songs for Dimash.
    The interesting vocal style Dimash used towards the end of the song is called a vocal trill which is a classical technique and is the least familiar of the vocal manoeuvers. A singer with an even, rapid trill is a rarity. The director of the Rossini Opera Festival, Alberto Zedda has opined in an interview that the "widespread technical deficiency", the inability to trill, is a source of "frustration and anguish".
    Dimash modified the vocal trill by adding a Yakuti yodel technique to it and he did it to perfection. It’s wonderful that he’s introduced this classical technique into a pop song for the benefit of the non-classical world.
    He repeated this vocal trill in his “Stranger” performance in China.

    I know it`s an older video, but I just had to say 💯👍 for re-watching the whole performance for the subtitles, and leaving it in the reaction video, first time I see that happening 😀 many say "music it`s universal, I understand what he`s talking about without understanding the language OR reading the subtitles", and that is kind of annoying, especially when they totally miss what the song is about and assume something completely off :D And considering the amount of work Dimash (and other great artists) put into using technique for text-painting.

    They are called Generation Di. - Dimash, Daneliya Tuleshova and Diana Ankudinova.
    She is called the queen of goosebumps, a unique voice - contralto with polyphonic overtones. "Together with her tessitura, it identifies her potential voice type as dramatic contralto, the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice." (Wikipedia on Diana)
    Full vocal range - 4 octaves.
    The most famous hit of the king of rock 'n' roll in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.)
    Can’t Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley / DARK VERSION cover)
    Please react to Diana Ankudinova !
    Last year, the number of reactions to Diana exceeded the number of 10 thousand reactions (in my playlist section there are two playlists of 5 thousand reactions each).

    Here's to Dimash! There's just noone better! Yes, he's really doing that with his voice. Watch "The Story of One Sky" music video... the vocals are insane, the music and screenplay were written by Dimash and the MV is the culmination of a 3 year project. Once you have seen the MV, check out his live premiere performance at his Almaty concert . The fancam from the Vietnam Fan Club has the best audio you will find. It's just absolutely mind blowing even by "Dimash standards".

    Here’s to Dimash. A Russian opera singer reactor mentioned the vocal trill when Dimash was singing with that very odd style. She says it’s very eastern and very difficult to do. others called it yodeling. It’s not yodeling.

  • @karimmendible5255

    Hi Jeffrey, Yes Dimash really sung "that". Ha ha ha ha. Remember that he was born in Kazakhstan (Central Asia) between Russia and China. On that side of the world there are singing techniques quite unknown to us, they use different musical scales and they even tend to sing sitting cross-legged. In the second version of Stranger you will clearly hear the "yodel" progression. I recommend you watch the video of Know (vocalize) Arnau Tour and the cover of Hello by Lionel Richie so you can hear what for us would be "an arabic style" and that Dimash uses frequently.
    BTW The "closest" to Rock (the singing) I've heard from Dimash are Queen's versions of The Show Must Go On and a Medley with the Super Vocal Boys.

    Igor’s mother had seen Dimash on TV, and told him to see him, and so, there he was with his family.
    The guttural vibrations are a funeral dirge for the now passed away original singer of the song. That band is the original and the song was their hit, 25 years before.
    Dimash did a movie song called The Story Of One Sky, recently, and in the last half and at the very end he does some manoeuvres you might like.
    Dimash is an ambassador of peace and love, and so you will see these themes frequently in his music.
    He is awarded as a National Treasure by his country, Kazakhstan.

    The bald guy in the crowd is Igor Krutoy, a famous composer, who came out of retirement to write for him. Not just a pianist. Lol. He just didn't write this song.

    As for the "yodeling", it's actually a traditional funeral lament in Kazakhstan's part of the world and goes by many names: melisma, goat trilling, ululation, glottal stop and joqtaw (also spelled zhoktau).

    Hi, I like your reactions to Dimash. I'm happy you have been Dimshified 😂but please don't say that he sings in FALSETTO, he uses head voice and soprano notes. Falsetto is used by singers that don't reach high notes with vocal cords. He may use it for some moment in range transitions only. Thank you very much. ❤

    This type of voice modulations are typical for some folklore styles, for example in Bulgarian folklore they are called "Shopsko tresene" (Sofia's shaking) - the name originates from the region in which they are most common.

    This was the first time Maestro Igor Krutoy had heard Dimash.
    Igor had been retired for 25 years and worth over 13 Billion. He had confided to his mother that he was bored and
    wondered what he could do. His mother, who is Ukranian by birth, had heard Dimash. She was the one who recommended Igor go hear Dimash at this performance. If you see Igor playing for Dimash, you know he wrote the music and he and Dimash arranged it.
    Igor is a Jewish, and Dimash is Muslim. What a combination, huh!

  • @dennismcdonnell7853

    That sound is an ethnic funeral dirge in honour of the lead singer of the group performing with Dimash here. This was a hit song 20-25 years ago and their lead singer passed away since…..and yes, he is doing that sound.
    He does a version of that sound in the Super Brother’s competition show in a cut up version of Stranger, which he previously performed at New Wave concert/comp in Sochi Russia in late 2021. He makes sounds and tones that no one else knows about.

    Hihello, former metalhead pre-Dimash here lol.
    Certainly not metal, but Di has dabbled in rock. A few along those lines you might enjoy are things like “Kieli Meken”, “Durduraz”, “Golden” (there’s a cool official MV but also another version on his channel with the song more cohesive and less broken up for acting scenes), “Lay Down”, he did Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” on the Singer 2017 and a Queen medley with the Super Vocal Boys (you have to find that one on Facebook)...
    There are probably more rock-ish examples; those are just off the top of my head. :)
    and, as a bonus, he goes full electric guitar in “Across Endless Dimensions” (the one on his channel from May 2020, with scenes from the movie the song is from behind, has the best sound quality). ;)
