An Invitation to a Banquet

  • While Jesus dined at the house of a prominent Pharisee, He told a parable about a banquet-one with a highly unconventional guest list. Through this story, Jesus revealed a key insight about God’s kingdom, admonishing those who were familiar with Christ but refused to follow Him. As Alistair Begg emphasizes, Jesus’ invitation is open to all people, and those who belong to Him have a mission to bring others to His table.
    Scripture: Luke 14:15
    Preached: May 6, 2001

Wonderful lesson. I am not an evangelist. God led me into treatment foster care. Our home was filled with abused, angry, mixed up kids of all ages. I read them testimonies of the persecuted. I had devotionals with them everyday. We adopted 8. Not all of the kids came to accept the invitation, but some did. Even the secretary of the agency came to Christ. I am not an evangelist, but I saw that the Holy Spirit is and would at times allow me to be the instrument He would use to bring someone to Christ. Now we have grandchildren who are following Christ. We must heed the invitation and also give the warnings when it is denied. I am 75 now, and I hunger for more of Jesus and His Word. I appreciate the Holy Spirit’s leading as I ask Him to lead me to a Godly pastor/ teacher who will speak the truth and challenge me to be faithful unto death. There are many voices today which are deceptive. We must be careful not to listen to any voice which is not from the Lord. Everyone today seems to believe they are saved whether they obey Jesus or not. Something is seriously wrong when the church is not grieved about the behaviors of its members.🙏🏻✝️
