🇳🇿🇺🇸 // Over the past 80 days, in the course of many conversations, our ears have become familiar with the jargon of the sailor. We're happy to go along with it, putting in the two or three technical terms we know such as: gybing, lowering your sail, anticipating the coming low pressure, passing the front, sailing on port tack, then starboard, a backstay, a rudder, ... Yes, you'll have understood, the nautical vocabulary is rich and sometimes a demonstration is (more than) welcome to become a real expert! 😳

Thanks a lot Conrad for your lesson on how to take a reef ! What amazes me is that you're obliged to go to the mast to secure the reefed mainsail, that is laborious and also dangerous for "ordinary" sailors. On ordinary cruiser boats the whole manouver can be completed from the cockpit and it's safer, becuase we have a large lazybag on the boom. You're the BEST, waiting for your arrival safe and fast to Sable D'Olonne. Cheers !!! ✊✊🤞🤞⛵🌊🌐

Conrad, Excellent content to engage with and reach a non-sailing audience. Media content like this supports sponsorship opportunities from companies outside the sailing community.
For the 2028 campaign do consider reaching out to companies in the oil and gas sector with large work forces working in hazardous environments that can relate to the conditions you face during a race.
There are many oil and gas companies with a genuine goal of providing clean sustainable energy and by- products.
It’s worth noting that almost all of the raw materials used to manufacture the non-metallic components of a modern imoca are by-products of the petroleum cycle.
The raw material manufacturers of the polymers used represent significant sponsorship opportunities. Theres also a sustainability story to be told if you break down most of the primary, secondary and tertiary raw materials of the components of the vessel.
Anyway, love your “can do spirit” and will be following along through this campaign and the journey to the next one.
Wishing you broad reach winds and following seas.

Do you ever have to trim the jib to back wind the main a bit, relieving pressure? Assume the 140-ish true wind angle reduces risk of an accidental jibe. Do you guys ever use a preventer on these IMOCA beasts?

If you want to reach a wider audience you have to take people along and, ideally, put them in a position where they can grow to be armchair experts, feeling able to make an argument and halfway confident in their judgement.
