Twenty years later and the feelings bubble up unharmed and unchanged, I'm still that young lad on that late South African evening. Thank you Roger. I hope young lads around the world continue to listen to your music, maybe, while lying on their pops lap. I love you Dad.

One of the best songs from one of the best albums ever. Waters is a genius who can take you on a journey into darkness and back into light with his words. He tells such a moving story and makes you feel the intensity of his lyrics so deeply.
I was fortunate enough to see him do this live in Philadelphia in '85 when the album came out and Clapton did the tour with him. They played the Whole Pros and Cons Album & I fell in love w/ it. I still own the vinyl and listen to it in it's entirety several times a year. The official videos that came out were pretty bad and don't do justice to the songs, however the imagery the record provokes for me are entertaining, scary, puzzling, sad and funny & all in 42 minutes, courtesy of the genius of Waters and how he brings the story, Vocals, backing vocals, guitar work, horns, spoken word, sound effects etc all in at the right time and in just the right amount to keep you fully engaged as you try to piece together what this tale is about. Hint , best I can figure it's about: love, lust, fidelity, happiness, divorce, despair, joy, hope, confusion, anger, big rigs, diners, old Westerns, dreams, nightmares, hitchhiking, power, insecurity and a whole lot more -- so, it's about being human. Almost 40 years on and It's a fine album still.
He had good teachers, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Pete Townshend. I was at the live show in 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens. Roger was 18 years younger back then than I am now. Eric Clapton was on the stage. The sound was everywhere. They turned that crappy hockey rink into a concert hall, and everything was super-entertaining and engaging. Even Welcome to the Machine sounded every bit Floyd without the other three guys. Interesting. And there was humour, as well. Roger even played If that night, a beautiful little acoustic number from Atom Heart Mother. One of the best shows that I have ever seen. Only Elton John and Rush could be considered better, but we are splitting hairs here.

@@creepingbrain Even before DSOTM, he was the creative director of the band. Once Syd Barrett left, Roger steered the ship. Pink Floyd was a great band of course. The Best of the 70's worldwide. After Roger left, Pink Floyd became a band lacking of innovation. If you see the playlist of their concerts, mostly is from the 70's and the band is an orchestra of 20 members with Gilmore doing solos. There are Pros and Cons to everything. Except Rogers' greatness. To that there are only Pros. We thank you Roger, for that you have done and continue to do.
I love this song! reminds me of the past everyone is so Eger to forget, Why life from 1945-1989 was worth living. I wish I could get back to 1985 When the world made sense and the American dream was still alive!
It's been almost thirty years since I discovered this album (at the time, 1988, it had been out for around four years) and I can still recite every line of this song from memory.
Roger in my opinion is Pink Floyd, Gilmore is awesome but Roger proves he doesn't need him. I often feel that Roger desperately wants to save the world, he touches on things everyone relates to and sounds saddened that this is all he can do. I say..you have made a difference Roger, that's all a man can ask for.
absolutely fucking true....the world has gone to hell in a handcart ….yes DG is utterly legendary...Roger I've seen at his finest..including this one..and I despair...

Lyrics
In truck stops and hamburger joints
In Cadillac limousines
In the company of has-beens
And bent-backs
And sleeping forms on pavement steps
In libraries and railway stations
In books and banks
In the pages of history
In suicidal cavalry attacks
I recognise...
Myself in every stranger's eyes
And in wheelchairs by monuments
Under tube trains and commuter accidents
In council care and county courts
At Easter fairs and sea-side resorts
In drawing rooms and city morgues
In award winning photographs
Of life rafts on the China seas
In transit camps, under arc lamps
On unloading ramps
In faces blurred by rubber stamps
I recognise...
Myself in every stranger's eyes
And now, from where I stand
Upon this hill
I plundered from the pool
I look around
I search the skies
I shade my eyes
So nearly blind
And I see signs of half remembered days
I hear bells that chime in strange familiar ways
I recognise...
The hope you kindle in your eyes
It's oh so easy now
As we lie here in the dark
Nothing interferes, it's obvious
How to beat the tears
That threaten to snuff out
The spark of our love

There are Pros and Cons to everything. Except Rogers' greatness. To that there are only Pros. We thank you Roger, for that you have done and continue to do.
The only cons from this is he's egocentric side of himself. But I don't blame him, he's a genius anyways
Roger Waters is a musical genius.
Neighbors are cutting up onions again... Thank you ROGER.
I love this song! reminds me of the past everyone is so Eger to forget, Why life from 1945-1989 was worth living. I wish I could get back to 1985 When the world made sense and the American dream was still alive!
I love you Roger Waters!!
Written in 1984. Still relatable.
Released in 1984. Written well before then.
It reminded me of One of my turns ❤️❤️
I feel this is more emotional and certainly sounds more vulnerable.
Really love this song, even think this is the best song of Roger.
I agree!
great roger waters.
Gênio 😘
This song gives me goosebumps. Beautiful and wonderful roger waters!
Happy Birthday Roger .Wishing you many more
It's been almost thirty years since I discovered this album (at the time, 1988, it had been out for around four years) and I can still recite every line of this song from memory.
such a powerfully emotional song.
I'm 50 yes old love Floyd. I've never seen this video before I love it , where have I been , probably in every strangers eyes. I recognise 😉
i love this song so much ,ill have it it played at my funeral
When a dream turns into an amazing album you know it' from a great mind like Rogers
It's all so easy now, as we lie here in the dark
Jenny Allfree 💧????
Roger in my opinion is Pink Floyd, Gilmore is awesome but Roger proves he doesn't need him. I often feel that Roger desperately wants to save the world, he touches on things everyone relates to and sounds saddened that this is all he can do. I say..you have made a difference Roger, that's all a man can ask for.
gilmour not gilmore get it right
absolutely fucking true....the world has gone to hell in a handcart ….yes DG is utterly legendary...Roger I've seen at his finest..including this one..and I despair...
Oh yes. Roger was the mind of Pink Floyd...the most beautiful part of it all.
Scott Macleod fully understand and agree 👍
nigel gilmour gee dont flip out no one is perfect. Especially you idiot. 😳😩
My wife and I start every road trip with album for over 20 years.
Eric Clapton and everyone else involved with this masterpiece....we thank you
Let's give it up for Andy Newmark. Absolutely phenomenal drumming on this album. Every instrument in out there in the mix, nothing is too subtle.
Still listening in 2024 been have since about 90 or maybe b4 it's been a good auld haul ❤ from where I stand upon this HILL
I recognise 🖐
I love this man's music
Me too Syfoll, me too. He's a genius
This music video takes me back to my childhood when there was a different kind of America. Things seemed to be more full of life and alive. I don't know how to describe it exactly but this music video makes me think of that time in my life when I was younger
That’s because everything seems more alive when you’re younger.
over the years as being a great listener to your songs. I feel that you are giving us messages. some of these lyrics.over the years, telling us messages to change our selves.and our world
I've been listening to this song since high school-30 years ago. Has never grown old. Eric Clapton's guitar work, Waters range and lyrics. So powerful, so poignant.
Che dire!!! Roger è. sara' per sempre la mente di un mitico gruppo, CHE genio.....
Dopo Syd!
After Syd

Linda, absolutamente linda!!!

everything about this song is beautiful, gives me chills
Absolute musical masterpiece
I remember he played this in Chile, 2002 I think it was. I was probably the only one who knew the lyrics and sang along. A shame that people never got to pay proper attention to this album. It felt good, though.
Roger will always be the heart and soul of Pink Floyd, thank you for everything ❤️
M A S T E R P I E C E RW is a genius!!!
Bellísima canción, Roger sos lo mejor, tu musica y letras son mi vida, absolutamente magnifico, en 6 días te veo en La Plata, Argentina

When I was about 16 me and my best mate would have a smoke and talk for hours about the meaning of our favourite music.we played pros and cons a lot
Из этого альбома, по моему мнению, самая лучшая песня! Слушаю много лет и мнение не изменил!

Great Song
Beautiful song ! Petersburg Russia
I travelled to London in the summer of 85 from Glasgow to see him perform the pro's and cons in its entirity in Earls court. To hear this, and the gunners dream live with Clapton on guitar made it one of my most memorable gigs.
I always come around and see what happens when you listen to very well respected musicians but there is only one man who gains my respect.
Exactly genius musician Roger Waters! Thanks Mr Roger Waters ‼️
Thanks for the posting!
Simplesmente maravilhoso. ....
As long as there are angsty teens, this music will always have a home and will be a place to return to, years later.
He used to play this live. If you're old enough to have been there, you're lucky.
Roger Waters - 5:06 am
David Gilmour- 5:00 am
...
6 minutes ahead
Really touching. Voice, music and landscapes show us the man who works, who brings home his bread with difficulty. In the bars on his routes he finds real people. Roger Waters has always "seen" reality as it is and has transmitted it in music. Life is more acceptable. Thank you so much ❤️
i love how this song ends and going into that main riff, to me this is the best album of all time
Ive seen Waters live.... im to the right in politics but i still love the way Roger put his words.....
