  • Public Health Ontario has developed a series of resources to support individuals working in long-term care homes manage residents with Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.
    The resources include an:
    1) At a glance resource on key risk factors of CPE transmission for LTCHs to consider when making decisions on the implementation of infection prevention and control practices
    2) A checklist to support the safe admission, transfer, and discharge of residents with CPE
    3) A frequently asked questions document to support family members, visitors and residents who are colonized or infected with CPE
The purpose of these resources is to provide practical tools to fill the gap in IPAC knowledge and address barriers related to implementing best practices in order to decrease the transmission of CPE. Although the presentation and resources were developed for LTCHs, the information may be beneficial to others who support similar health care settings.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
    • Understand what CPE are and why it is important to stop their spread
    • Gain awareness of the new CPE resources for long-term care homes and how to find them
    • Understand supports available from Public Health Ontario to start using the CPE resources
Presenter(s): Eva Skiba and Tiffany Chiu
