thank you for sharing this. when i was younger i grew up in a racist town and as a result dealt with so much internalized racism and rejected my culture. i struggled with so much identity issues and only at 19 did i start to unlearn settler ideology and embrace my culture and heritage. i hope to learn how to dance in this next year so that when powwows return in 2021 i can join my family on the powwow trail and make my ancestors proud

Yes come join the powwow circle! There are such amazing people and dancing all weekend at a powwow is the absolute best! We all understand. I grew up in Thunder Bay Ontario. It's so racist too!

Love this! I didn’t have access to Pow Wow dance instructors where I grew up but have always wanted to learn so as I got older I’m always scouring RUclips for instruction. I’d love to see a video with all the steps put together in a workout video style or even Pow Wow dance inspired 20 minute workout video that helps get more practice!

Thanks for this! I am an old Native mutt and was denied all this. I'm just getting to learn the Choctaw language now. At least I can do the dancing in my home just to be doing it because. I believe my Native ancestors would be proud that I'm not erasing them like so many of my family did.

The calf raises esp with your feet apart remind me of when i did ballet as a kid
We always did loads of them in warmup. Theyre especially good when you do them in "second position" where you have your feet pointing to the sides and have them like in your warmup where you sit down.
Jusy sit down and push back up like that and its a stretch and a full leg muscle workout
I love to learn about other people and history through craft, dance and cooking
And so far i really enjoy your videos because dancing, and experiencing that form of expression really makes me connect with a part of a different culture and gain understanding
Thank you so much for making them. I hope many native people will see them and get inspired

Thank you for taking your time to make these videos to share. As a disenfranchised first nations and avid dancer, my white parents put me in ballet not really knowing what to do with me. I am rediscovering my native dance and your videos are very helpful as I transition my body movements to something more natural for me like the fancy shawl dance moves. You brought back memories of my ballet teachers recommending calf lifting throughout the day, and how you do it waiting for the bus!! subscribed!!

Sorry for the late reply. I still get nervous at powwows. I wear glasses and when I dance I take them off so I can't see people looking at me lol. It throws me off when I notice people watching me. My trick is don't wear glasses, keep head up and look at the ground, and not to give a crap lol It's like a dance prayer.
