I did not have a hot rod car back then but I had friends who did and loved how they fixed them up and raced them. This is a clip from my collection of films from that time. I used portions of this in my PBS 6 part television series, Making Sense Of The Sixties.

The Buick was just the hot ride in 1947-48. It only lost the spotlight in '48 when the new, "step down" Hudsons. But the Hudsons were a hit with more thinking car buyers. So the Buicks and Cadillacs remained important especially when the revolutionary new GM short stroke V8's arrived.
I grew up in Santa Ana California I know exactly where that airstrip was.
Those old Buicks had mushy automatic transmissions. They slipped like crazy until they reached about 50 mph.
My dad had the same Buick,he told me he got it going over 100 mph over the Golden Gate bridge, my mother never knew that story
even books in the 50s looked like the were from the 50s
Would rather ride fast horses David 😁
Is there a part 2?? This ended abruptly like there was a story interrupted...
Yes there is. I have put up a clip from the entire film. The film is almost one hour.
