I think the other thing that gave me pause was the complete absence of any story updates. You would expect that they would have had at least one new story chapter, so the complete lack of them feels like either an oversight, or a marker that the game is wrapping up. I'll be honest, after waiting eight years for PSO2, I really would be sad to see it close so quickly. But given what SEGA did with PSO, PSO:BB and PSU I don't have a lot of faith.
This one true as in sad if it does end. It is a tossup for sure/too early to tell but sega always makes the dumbest decisions. PSU and pso have made the level cap higher so it kinda gives me faith and the headline that they want to continue supporting ngs. I do hope they continue the game and honestly wish for one more episode/version of this game.
@@Uzu_makiii You're overlooking one important detail. When you mention PSO and PSU's max level, you're talking about CHARACTER levels, PSO2 and NGS doesn't have that, it has CLASS levels. You should be comparing it to the max class level. PSU's class level cap was 50.
highly doubt this is the end like most people are saying. Unless they are planning to take down BOTH GAMES (Base and NGS) to move players to the next one.
Hmmmm food for thought. Yeah I agree they're going overboard with these limited quests. FOMO arigatou! I also noticed there was no mention of story in that roadmap. I hope that was just an oversight.
HMZK showing up for the first time in an NGS Headline, after 3 years of service, actually made me very curious. However, Kimura and the devs, have expressed their desire to continue working on NGS for a long time. I don't think they have any other game ready to move us out of PSO2 to, specially considering there does seem to be a bunch of content coming in the following 9 months. If I had to guess, I think Chapter 7 will just get Chapter 6 Treatment; we will get Story updates in the form of tasks, cutscenes and mini-episodes; just no Story Quests whatsoever. There is already one bit of story confirmed to be released along M.A.R.S, but it was not mentioned in the roadmap (they might also mention the new added section of Nameless City in the short story coming); so, I assuming, that since no Story Quests are coming out they did not mention tasks or other forms of story content. It is also worth noting that there is a expansion coming for Stia Region on October - November (first Region Expansion we have had), with some Exploration Sectors actually becoming bigger. They are probably turning stia into what it was supposed to be when it released; there is also a new boss silhouette in that period (could just be a Crimson Realm Boss, but I digress); I think it is somewhat likely for the Stia expansion to be accompanied by a bit of story as well. December-January is likely to be storyless, with the Colossal Boss release in February-March probably being similar to what DFA Release was, which included a small chink of story through cutscenes! And finally, we are likely to get a closure for current story in April with Chapter 8, which might be similar to what Episode 5 was. I personally think, that the possible "closure" for current story, and the introduction of lvl 100 cap after less than 4 years of the game are likely NOT an indication of EoS; instead we might finally get to what would be the "peak" of ver.2 development era, to where we will finally shift to a new Episode of the story, if that's how they decide to call it anyways. I think it is very likely for us to go beyond level 100 cap. On aside note, I have been waiting for a new opening sequence for the game for a very long time.... I think next year might finally be that time >o> And while a lot of what am saying is just wild guesses and speculation, I still do think EoS is still not that close in the horizon. But we will see when the time comes.
Tbh Charackter/class level are meaningless in ngs. Since you get your skillpoints over cocoons, nothings really changing in your playstyle from 1 to 100.
Considering they just announced a reduction in maintainance frequency and now we're already on our way to lvl 100 (presumed end all max lvl), my first thought was "yep, it's the end of this game". If this really is the case, I also don't think there will be a PSO3. Or rather there aren't enough players still left to make something like that a financially viable thing to do, as a third installment would have to be on a new engine/framework and whole lot of other costly things. Unless they give us some further major information towards the games future, I'll definetly am gonna take it slow and casual with this game until the spring '25 update, especially in regards to scratches and the games monetization - no point in overcommitting if it comes to an end "soon".
@@spark9189 They say a lot of things that turn out not to be true. They said the same about base PSO2 when it released on Xbox, but they were secretly working on NGS in the background. When it comes to these devs, you shouldn't take their word on anything, their word has never meant much when it comes to this game.
Honestly, I just want them to start again from scratch so if this is the end for NGS I wouldn't be too disappointed. We've been stuck on the same planet for 3 years. Just think back to what PSU was like and all the different environments that it had then look at what we have now. Even Base tried harder.
I agree. NGS is objectively the worst online game in the series. If NGS development ends next year and goes into maintenance mode for another year before shutting down, it shouldn't be seen as a bad thing. The entirety of this game has felt like one test after the other, making it up as they go along. A new PSO game would be welcomed by the majority than to see this game continue on this path.
I still hit up Clementine PSU occasionally, still have my characters back in base PSO2, I agree a lot with this assessment. I think base PSO2 had by far the greatest diversity of environments, even if they were loosely, yet randomly generated. I am still finding and exploring all three planets and the space station in PSU, it's still amazing to me the variety they had back then even!😎👍
It would be really infuriating if that colossal boss on the roadmap is the FINAL BOSS and that's it... unless they are hidingly making PSO3 right now that going to be a straight continuation of NGS. Doubt that, tho... but we can dream at least ._.
Im curious to see where the direction of the game goes honestly. The roadmap did seem pretty barren outside of the updates to the content we already have accessible. I could see how someone seeing that could assume the game is coming to an end. A part of me wants to believe they're withholding info.
bro, what an alarming comment lol. I too, have a lot of hours in ngs, and feel, at this point in time, that the game, could in fact be ending. Primarily because it has felt, over and over, that SEGA has been testing the waters, for like, drops rates and stuff, to keep global satisfied. It feels, at least, that this last year, has been a test. Like weve all felt this way, in one way or another with ngs. I think theyve made redemption with v2. is it too little too late? Its an alarming comment Cheeto lol
The NGS game life was designed to last 10 years. It will not be ending, as the boss at the end of the map has been datamined and it us NOT vael. It will def be around a while as long as the game continues to recieve support.
It was actually to last 5 years. They mention it on a interview at NGS release. We have like 2 years for NGS content update but they might pull a 'ep4', take a break and keep updating after we have beat vael r2
Considering how long base was out for, I doubt lv.100 is the end. Finally being at Lv.100 just means that they can just focus on other things in the game.
That is such a misconception, base was backported into the new engine, just to keep your accessories and characters, NGS is a sequel, but it has a lot of differences compared to base from the engine's perspective
Why do you assume this game will be as long as base game? PSO was 6 years, PSU was 6 years, PSO2 was 8 years. NGS is also making less money than base PSO2 if you look at Sega's financial reports, which isn't a great look when you consider the fact that NGS is a global game and PSO2 was not.
Doubt? They already said that NGS will surpass level 100, so fear not, Masquerade (or Ams-beta as I like to call it) is just the way they trying to lower the expectations of what's about to come, I hope. Stay safe, too.
devs: "we plan to continue working on this game for a long time" some people: "is this the end of ngs?" personally i think that level 200 or gw2 style horizontal progression without further major power increases are both more likely than ngs ending anytime soon
When NGS first launched I remember seeing on the NGS Reddit about there being a data mine at the time that showed that the level curve calculations went up to level 200 but I cant find it now so take that with a grain of salt. It makes sense that the game will continue past level 100 as there is series precedent for it. It also doesn't make sense to me for them to stop at level 100 in 2025, the story feels like its just starting there's still so many questions and mysteries that are unanswered and unexplored and them adding the creative spaces just to end of life in a couple years and then create the nameless City missions and Line Strike and the M.A.R.S system just to end of life in a few months doesn't make sense to me that just seems like a waste of dev time and money. If Sega are planning on killing off NGS in favour of a new game I think that would be such a tragic waste of time money and good will on their part and ours. I don't think what Phantasy Star needs is for NGS to die and be replaced with a new game, what Phantasy Star and NGS needs is for NGS to have a content overhaul, they need to completely change their approach to content creation and availability. I love NGS, the gameplay is great! The boss fights are awesome! Playing the game is so much fun! But at the same time I am so disappointed by NGS. It has great gameplay, systems, mechanics, phashion, music, and even Halpha is a beautiful world thats fun to explore, but they do so little with all of that! The actual content in which we experience all that is so lacking, there's just not enough to do and what there is to do is often so very lack luster and so much of the good stuff is only there temporarily. And because of the complete separation of the Story and world building from the main gameplay all the quests and UQs in NGS are so uncompelling compared to the ones in base PSO2 even when a lot of the NGS ones are actually more fun. I cant wait to see Omega Masquerade come back, it was one of my favourite fights, if they made a mission type that just completely rehashed the Ultimate mission from PSO2 I'd be happy.
I honestly feel they will rerelease the game as a Episode 2, maybe renaming the subtitle. Also, Nintendo is releasing their new console soon. They might be doing some backstage preparations with them like they did with Sony back with the Vita release. Keep that in mind. when considering the march deadline. I hardly think that NGS is making SEGA be on the red like BP is doing to BN. Still, let's keep our expectations in check.

If it ends this soon, just as the story is FINALLY getting interesting after years of a weaksauce plotline and a barely characterized cast... I'll be pissed. Even PSO2's EPISODE 1 had some really interesting shit going on, its worst aspect being the sluggish pacing amd the fact that it had the unenviable but necessary job of laying down the foundation for the rest of the EPISODES to follow, similar to FFXIV's infamous ARR arc. It took NGS up to the very ass end of Chapter 5 to finally have a real hook in the form of Zephetto's exposition bomb, and for Manon and Aina to actually start getting some much-needed character development for being apparently the only NPCs that actually matter.
