Quadeca definitely lucky he learned textures quick. great music, but definitely, the layers, how it feels, it's what makes it. it reminds me of listening to like MBV for the first time.
why is the semantic police after me? isn't everything in life due a bit to luck? Quadeca could have hated music, it's lucky he had a love for music. everything in life is luck you can say.
So happy to see you guys listen, and this video reaffirms this as my AOTY. I’ve been with this all year and a couple still give me the same chills they did on first listen. Can’t wait to see where Quad goes next
@@isthatreallyirisas the other guy said, Path didn't really care for IDMTHY but no scrapyard yet. probably not for a while either, since they seems to have a big backlog
@@MountainsAwayoh wow genuinely mad at myself for that. Because I knew that and usually get it correct and it just totally slipped my mind this time. Sorry I’ll change it
i think ive checked the channel every now and then for about 2 months since i saw a tweet saying you'd make a video on scrapyard. good video. we love quad.
I love Kevin’s point at 1:09:00 talking about the vocode and autotune shrouding Quadeca’s voice and the emotional connection from the artist and the listener being much less compared to when his vocals are almost untouched. I definitely think it’s done on purpose. As the album goes on his vocals are less distorted and the emotions Quad’s feelings become more apparent and meaningful.
Your perspective of it sounding like you’re at an actual scrapyard is something I really haven’t thought about. I fell in love with this project again it seems.
fun fact: he did actually have a “junkyard” side D project after this one on his youtube called “songs i’ll never release” it’s clear that some of them are just like bits of ideas for a song but they’re all still ridiculously good
Great video as always! If you are wondering an inspiration quadeca probably had for the sound of U Tried That Thing Where Ur Human there is an album by Xiu Xiu called "A Promise" specifically the song "Apistat Commander" is a very similarly tortured and beautiful song.
I'm being so serious you guys have to listen to Hypochondriac by Brakence, its glitchpop perfection and truly some of the best production I've ever heard!
You know, even though this album has grown off me in the past few months, I was still absolutely excited to see that you two posted a reaction to it. Truly the best reaction channel on RUclips to me. Edit: So… it’s growing on me again.
I love your takes on the meaning behind the title “Scrapyard”. The reason he named it that is because all of these songs are considered his “scraps” because they didn’t fit on any album he was working on but he still wanted to release them
this is mostly speculative but i’ve always been under the assumption that it was titled scrapyard early on in it’s conception because it was mostly idmthy scraps. i think the scrapyard theme coincidentally happened to match the sonic pallet of the album well and potentially went on to influence some of the later developed tracks and promotional material. i believe it’s “scrapyard” because it is the scraps between his two more fleshed out projects and less so because of some central theme surrounding a literal scrapyard. regardless, the album doesn’t sound unfinished and the scrapyard branding feels very fitting given the sound of the album
It's not really speculative he's confirmed that it's called scrapyard bc the songs are ideas that wouldn't have made it onto any other fleshed out more cohesive albums
Still listening but just got to A LA CARTE - If you guys were fucking with that 90000% go check out hypochondriac by brakence, the soundscape will be a treat for your ears, and lyricism and themes will blow you away
