You know your martin and lewis history well...sadly just about 2 years later they would end the partnership precisely 10 years after that 500 club first date as a team together....nothing llike them before or since...pure lightnening in a bottle...just magic....beyond explanation....
I grew up six blocks away from The 500 Club, where the show took place. The club was owned by Skinny D'Amato. A major Mafia dude. A couple of years or so after this show took place The 500 Club burnt down to the ground. And sometime after that, Skinny was murdered in Florida. A Mafia hit. I can still see it like it was yesterday. I was crossing Atlantic Avenue on my way to the beach, down California Avenue, where I lived, across from the Star of the Sea Church Convent. And I saw all the smoke coming from the fire. A huge fire. It was a very sad day, cuz the 500 Club was so popular throughout the country. But also because my sister Patricia, made her professional debut, as the opening singing act, for the Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis show. On Patricia's way up to the stage, she passed by the table where Dean and Jerry were sitting and Dean made a lewd gesture, at my sister Patricia. This turned Pat off completely, and she canceled her upcoming spot, on the then very famous Arthur Godfrey show. They compared my sister Patricia's voice and singing style, to that of Patti Page. Patricia and her husband Chris are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary, where they live in Orlando, Florida. Patricia is the first born, of nine, in my family. Now down to five of us. God blessed Pat and Chris with a very beautiful family, of one son and four daughters. And many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I lost track in my older years, so I'm not sure if there are any great, great grandchildren, in their family. And Chris is a major golfer and played in a Pro-Am tournament, alongside of Lee Trevino.
From the opening song they sing..."since we got together 8 years ago today."..that was July 24 1946...so this should make this July 24 1953...but who knows if it's really when they sang this....but i would estimate this 1953 some time.
