    It’s such a shame that these vehicles will more than likely never be driven to their full potential by the owners that purchase them. I have driven the edge ST on track, it is so much more than a sporty looking SUV with a beefy engine. The way ford performance optimized and tuned the suspension, the awd system (when advancetrac, stability, and traction is disengaged) waking up and letting you feel this truly remarkable awd system. The way this vehicle loads up on its front end when coming into a corner, putting the power down to the ground it’s truly impressive. The explorer ST (big brother) is a monstrosity, with 400hp and even more torque, and would absolutely consume the little edge ST in a drag race. In the corners, the explorer shows it’s size unfortunately. I am lucky to live near one of the greatest driving roads in the US, where I take the edge from time to time to drive spirited. The edge has become known by frequent drivers of the road who also bring their supped up cars. The edge hangs with modified tuner cars and blows other peoples minds when they are canyon running in their modded s2000 and see an SUV keeping up with them. It’s great, I encourage owners of these vehicles to explore the capabilities of these things. They will leave you speechless.

      Really like it when I get owner reviews like this explaining the potential these performance vehicles have. I haven't had a chance to track an Edge or Explorer ST yet but I've heard and seen nothing but great things. Are there are mods that you've done to yours or is it stock?

    They removed the engine shroud. All Edge ST come with the engine cover. They “gave” you one that had it removed. The cover looks good but it just exaggerates the already troublesome Heatsoak in the 2.7L Twin Turbo . Air flow in and around the engine bay is key, due to the tiny intercooler, also what doesn’t make sense is the 2.7L TT V6 is limited or detuned to 335hp and can only be upgraded to a max of 360 hp she to the 180 hp maximum that the factory front and rear drive units can tolerate. Odd that the 2.3L single Turbo 4 cylinder makes 350hp and can be upgraded to well over 650hp with the factory drive line.

    • @CarsWithSteve

    Really nice design. Is it true that built-in Navigation is only available with Ford CoPilot 360 Assist Plus (supposedly subscription based) and not available with the standard Ford CoPilot 360? Need some clarity on this. Thanks in advance. 👍

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  Год назад

      There are a few options.. you'd either have connected built in navigation or connected navigation.. here are the differences:
      Connected Built In Navigation: 3 year trial of connected services (live traffic, navigation etc) which ends after 3 years.. It then reverts to built in traditional GPS navigation once the trial runs out and the subscription isn't renewed.
      Connected Navigation: 3 months of connected service with full nav capability.. but this one turns into a "moving map" with no destination capability if a subscription isn't purchased.
      So if the plan is to not use CarPlay or Android Auto you want to make sure that you go with the Connected Built In Nav!

    It's weird to me that they offer the 21 inch wheels with all seasons. I didn't realize thay was the case. Mine has the pirelli p zero summer tires.
    If you buy an Edge I recommend you all take advantage of the ST SUV experience. They will pay for 1 night hotel, dinner breakfast and lunch and let you take one of their edge STs around a small track and it's really amazing how well these things handle. The biggest problems with the Edge are: outdated dash (like, it's from 2010) and absolutely zero exhaust note. Everything else about fully loaded edge is awesome. It also has one of the best stereos I've ever heard.

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  Год назад +2

      That's something most people don't take into account.. swapping out tires during the winter. But I always recommend getting a set of steel wheels for winters instead of constantly swapping out rubber to avoid wear and tear on the tire wall.
      Great idea on attending the ST Ford Performance Experience! Haven't had a chance to try a Ford Performance Course but I've heard great things. Agree with you on the dash.. it's definitely in need of an upgrade. I'm hoping that if Ford keeps it around we see something similar to what China got with the Edge L

      @VanquishedAgain Год назад +4

      @@CarsWithSteve even the escape from a couple years ago got an all digital dash in the US so I feel like ford is just waiting til people finally demand it lol. You can get a new edge ST (base) for like 45k. Even loaded at 55k (assume a slight discount) there isn't much competing at this level. An X5 is going to be 30k more with all the features (albeit faster). Same goes with cayenne, and audis. The Edge is kinda in no man's land. The competition is either much slower or much faster but at this price point I think the Edge st is the quickest of this size

    • @CarsWithSteve

Was just contacted by a Ford dealer about special offers being done for 2022 Explorers, $3500 in rebates! Was told my Edge order may take 4-6 months before it’s delivered to the dealer. You have driven both. Which one would you get based on power and performance?

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  Год назад +1

      I'd probably go for the Edge over the Explorer just because I don't need the additional size but I do like the power difference that you get in the Explorer ST. If it's a 400a Explorer you'd be missing out on the ventilated 1st row seats, heated 2nd row seats, wireless charge pad and adaptive cruise control that are in the Edge 401a that you ordered.
      If you're only looking at performance and power.. the Explorer ST for sure. If the other features are important, wait it out for the Edge if you aren't in a hurry to get into something new

      Most mechanical parts are found in a number of other Ford vehicles so part availability won't be an issue. People restore 50+ year old cars without issue so I can't see there being any sort of part availability issue within the next 5 - 10 years. Resale value is the one thing you could be concerned about but if you're planning on holding onto it for 5-10 years how much are you realistically expecting to get back? Most cars will lose at least 50% of value within 5 years.. 2019-2020 Edge ST models are being sold around 50 - 60% of their new vehicle MSRP depending on mileage

Im confused because I expect to drive the car for 5 years and then try to recover the best price after the bank loan is over. Reading blogs and watching videos, it seems i wont get 50% of what i soend.
      Worst case scenario, if I have to sell the car while the bank loan is on going, the territory will assist me to switch easy as the customer won't be concerned about the discontinuation, however, with Edge, they will use the discontinuation as a bargain tool. So I honestly don't know

      There are small things peppered in my videos about what I think could use improvement but my reviews are about the features that a car has, explaining the difference in trim levels and showing how things work. I don’t get to spend a week at a time with them so it would be hard to give honest feedback about living with the vehicle and quirks I may notice

    • @VanquishedAgain
      @VanquishedAgain Год назад +1

      But then people get mad at you. I was honest in my 2020 review and people were like "why'd you buy a car you didn't like?" lol
      Edge St negatives:
      Guage cluster
      No exhaust note
      Could be faster (5.7s 0-60 is still pretty quick for an SUV in this price range though, especially with all the goodies this has)
      Thats about it. It's a really good car if you get it fully loaded. It took me a while to appreciate it coming from two Scat Packs which were much more fun. But you get a ton of space with the Edge ST and great handling and a much much better quality interior than Dodge offers. I owned mine for 2 years. I didn't put many miles on it but the miles I did put on it were hard miles, I drove it like I drive all my cars, floor it every time you're first at light. Take on ramps at 75, enjoy the twisty bits. I had no issues at all.

    I’m trying to negotiate an this same exact car color an all with the 400a package. Pretty basic about 48k trying to get them down to about $450/ month. I’m not sure what I should be paying with about $3k down

    • @CarsWithSteve
      @CarsWithSteve  Год назад

      Assuming it's the 400a with no other add ons getting it to $450 a month is going to need a bigger down payment or trade to offset. The Edge doesn't have a big profit margin and you'd need at least another $9k to get close to your ideal payment (assuming you're in the USA).
      If you can negotiate $1,500 off MSRP you'll probably come in closer to $550/month with $3k down
