Looks like socks only? What about shoes with a plastic sock over them? My apologies if I missed it but is that a sponge or mohair roller? What do you think of a mohair roller for the priming?

Plastic over shoes would be much better!! The roller is a medium pile microfibre roller - haven't used mohair, but they may work, if they're lint free.
