I wouldn't have a friend stupid enough to just presume to give me a dog out of the blue. Maybe you have a different quality of friends. These two were clearly in a close relationship, and I assume married. That assumes that he had a strong inkling from her that she would like to have a puppy. If my idiotic friend sprang a surprise puppy on me, I would likely be annoyed at their stupidity, but probably wouldn't be enraged, you emotionally unstable moron.
