Follow Meritor Maintenance Manual MM0970 for reassembly. Countless checks, torques, and improper assembly procedures were done during this reassembly. Reduced life of the carrier can be the results of not following correct reassembly procedures.
Hi there. I’ve been rebuilding diffs from 2003 to present that’s 20 years of experience, worked with big companies to small companies i was working by the book the whole time so i have learned what to check and the torques even just by feel. I opened my own business in 2015 to present i’ve never had a diff came back for warranty. Everybody has there own style of rebuilding. But thanks for warching and your concern, have good day sir!
My experience covers 47 years in this industry. I work for the manufacturer of this carrier. Providing a video of how to “rebuild” a carrier should show proper use of torque wrenches and procedures, along with information on use of special tools. I sir deal with failures everyday from improperly assembled carriers due to the “feel method” being used. I can appreciate you think you have acuired that skill. The viewers likely don’t have that and impact wrenches vary widely on their torque output. Bearing life is totally dependent on correct bearing preload. The video showed not one inspection of any part, prior to assembly. Checks such as pinion bearing preload, diff case spread for correct bearing preload, gear tooth backlash adjustment for proper heel to toe tooth location, just to name a few checks were never shown. I appreciate your desire to share your procedure to reassemble a carrier, however there is no “style” to doing so correctly. With any product there is a maintenance manual that is created as a guide for servicing that product by the manufacturer. That is created to share the diagnosis, disassembly, parts inspection, reassembly, and setup of the product with use of correct tools, torques, and safety procedures. Maintenance Manuals are available free and online from most every product manufacturer for just those purposes. My note was not to disrespect you or what you do. My note simply stated the manual referencing this carrier.
@@glenncram5355 hi glenn how are you? i came here trying to learn how to adjust the shims of the inter axle lock, i taked out the 3 shims that came originally, and when i try with air(and a custom plate to test it before closing) te locker doesnt engage completly, the service manual says 0,5 to 1mm space, but i see 3 mm or more, is that okey? or they work that loose?
You left out the hardest part getting the fork on top of the spring lol I made up a tool out of an old cross shaft with half a washer on the end to compress it and slide the fork over top, what doyou guys use?
Lol yes i know, it took us a few shot to get the fork in we used a pry bar with a grinded tip in the middle pushing down the spring manually. You should share the improvised tool you made on youtube and send me the link 😁👍🏼
Seems like a lot of corners are being cut. I just don't understand why so much silicone? Input seals and orings do not need silicone, just making a huge mess for the next guy to clean up. Also the adjusting ring for the power divider input shaft should have an o-ring and again not need silicone, I believe Loctite 565 which is basically anaerobic sealant is the recommended sealant Per Meritor for adjusting ring threads.
@Maximum Powertrain HELP!! I have a Meritor diff and the wheel bearing adjustment nut is something called an airlock and between the 2 bearings is a steel sleeve. How do I adjust the wheel bearing? I've never seen this setup before
seal all the way down to smash it properly. Off course it emohasizing but at this aplication seals shouldnt be level with outside machined surface? and thats enougt? theyre not bearing races ... just a thought after old Earon movie, what do You think
My truck has problem when I turn differential switch on I hear air does something but only one rear wheel spinning on passenger side. What can be the problem? What's need be checked or replaced?
