My input shaft has some hella worn out splines that finally gave up and stripped the yoke. Your video really helps me with figuring out how to remove and replace the shaft.

I just checked my link above to the overhaul manual, it still works fine. And don't need to state the obvious, but splines are always "softer" than their mating surfaces: easier to replace a shaft (!) I hope the job went well and you're back on the road.

You're most welcome! The problem with this differential was the truck driver not engaging third diff lock on uneven ground. I believe that ordinarily the brass thrust washer is the first to go with this fault. But it looks like the initial mechanic only replaced the thrust washer (which you see in perfect condition in this video), and had not gone further in to find the damaged spider gear casing (seen in the next video). Drivers: engage that third differential lock if you think there's just the slightest risk the rear wheels will have different rotating speeds! Better to have more tyre wear than to give the center (third) diff all that stress.

on 65 ton B-double running 600hp , those diffs can go as long as 3 million km's with no issues.

This one failed due to operator ignorance/negligence by constantly driving uneven logging roads without locking the third differential. The spider gears were worn out.
Some owners used to insist their drivers lock the third diff (“cross locks”) to protect it, sacrificing tyre life instead.

@@gouldney1 Absolutely, in slippery conditions, lock the divider. I was driving a 80 ton A-double road train through Sydney, and the 700hp was always spinning the wheels loaded on bitumen, we ended up locking the divider because of the constant wheel spin. Its the same with people that rev the guts out bogged trucks causing 'spin out' that cooks the spider gears in diffs.
