Tall Antenna Installation on top of a Rohn 35 Tower

- Somewhat of a different antenna mounting method with a difficult situation and minimal crew. Adapt and overcome. The Rohn 35 tower mast is typical for home ham radio use when you get to that level of commitment. This is one of many methods to mount an antenna.

Rohn 35 AKA "Motorola special" hasn't been made since the late 70's. Very rare indeed, Not many left this day in age. I remember climbing a few at 180' and one was 240'. Pretty good hula hooping. Just an FYI for you guys, Use 88 tape and tape the black transition ring between the aluminum and white fiberglass on those ASP-705 antennas. After about 6-7 years it cracks/ splits and lets water migrate in. Two way shop calls, you show up two days later and find everything working and leave, next rain storm your back. Symptoms are noticeably "short range". and don't put the level on the white part it's tapered,,LOL I like that "Gin pole" thing you guys have that must be some home brew thing... looks like a top section of something I can't recall . . My youngest son installed cell towers and antennas. Oneday he installed a 300ft radio tower and took pics when installing the light at the top. wow.
I remember that lots of the mounting hardware weighed more than the antenna itself! Make sure that the holes are clear of the galvanizing while till on the ground. Very nice job!

I'm moving on to another strategy using a crossband mobile repeater. Just have to find the time to go about it. I got some other raw footage to tie up some loose ends, but eventually will get to it and many other comms topics. Thanks for watching.

I have a 50 foot Rohn 35 or as it was called a Mocom 35 behind my house. I worked for a tower company out of Park Ridge ILL. we were contracted by the Archdiocese of Chicago to remove all the towers on the Catholic schools in the Chicago area for the Catholic television network and the antennas off the transmitter sites on Schaumburg and Mundelien ILL. I brought this tower home and put it up here for my amateur radio station it's in need of a paint job but it's still quite solid considering it's age and has held up well with two large Mosley antennas on it > the price was great(free ) and it has served me well. XD I was taught to always use half-hitches but I do like you do now and use the tie wrap method, So much easier and less time consuming.
I feel ya though man with people who "improvise" too much on the jobsite and do not follow specific instructions. I tell them "You're not being paid to improvise"
You are near an eagle's nest. Those 2 birds are very concerned about you guys being there. You can see their shadows circling on the ground. I have spent many hours hanging cell radios. You can learn a lot about nature while hooking people up to facebook.
Forgot to mention that all of our main hand tools had to be attached to us with lanyards. Para cord works great! STAY SAFE!

Is that a fire lookout tower up there that the antennas are to be used for? Are the antennas for low band or some crazy high gain VHF high?
VHF high gain, about 6 db of gain. used for the fire dept and water works. the lookout has been vacant for awhile but the structure is used as a radio vault.
