But it's true... also if you have a mild break on your skin due to the start of a fungal infection due to heat or shaffing this will work as well ... put this on, on the affected area(s) at the start if your shower then soap up like normal and then soap up the affected spots with the regular soap... when done make sure you dry completely and apply walmart brand (gold bold) power I use the extra strength to keep the moisture away until the spots heals completely
It worked 100% for me, I saw this and have been using it for a few months now. I got one with tea tree oil and it works better than the regular dandruff shampoo, I used to use all types of acne washes and pads with no success. I’ve been trying to find a way to get rid of acne for 15+ years
@@nihalbhamrah4726People have different skin types like dry, acne, ageing, oily, much more so probably it didn’t work for them because they didn’t have those things like if she had dry skin and she was using a oily skin product that got rid of oily skin it wouldn’t work because she doesn’t have oily skin. It’s very complicated tbh lol💀
@@nihalbhamrah4726there is different types of acne. What the girl in the video had was fungal acne that’s why the head and shoulders worked for her. But if someone has hormonal acne, this won’t work because that’s a completely different situation. Not all acne is the same, and one routine isn’t going to work for everyone. If it was that simple then do you think there’d still be people suffering from painful acne? (Not trying to be rude kind of came off like that).
really? right now I'm using like 3 creams and taking pills 'cause my eczema is going compleatly crazy, like moving my hands hurts a lot and I hate it so much, I'm gonna try it, lets see if it works
Head and shoulders works best for a certain type of acne: fungal acne. Just be aware if you don't have this type of acne, it can make things worse (many people suffer from bacterial or hormonal acne). Skin care is really trial and error anyway, but if it doesn't work for you in 2 weeks, move on :)

Here in Brazil we have a baby Butt ointment called hipoglós and I use that in my face.. the composition is basically retinyl palmitate, Cholecalciferol and zinc oxide.. now I know why my skin loves it.. the zinc in it i guess.. and i put with Rosehip oil, and my skin reacts so perfectly, specially after using tretinoin or after sun exposure on summer. and yes, I put baby butt ointment in my face🤡, is amazing for sunburn when you're at the pool or beach hahaahaahhauaau my mom used to put over my sunscreen in my nose tô not create the sunburn bubbles
I believe this is what works great for fungal acne. If you have fungal acne your breakouts are probably itchy. Also it does not mean you are dirty for having itl!! It can come from towels depending on how/where they’re washed, from being humid outside, etc. some people are just more prone to it.
Thats bc dandruff is a type of fungal thing. I think..thats what i was told at least. I kept using dandruff shampoo bc i thought thats what i had..but it continued to get worse and i tried every kind. I went and got my hair cut and asked the women while i was there and she told me its bc i dont have dandruff i have dry skin. And dandruff shampoo is used to dry the fungus out. So all i was doing was drying out my dry skin more. She suggested tea tree oil. I used it a few times a week and i havnt had an issue in like 5 years.

okay this literally has cured my acne. for YEARS i’ve had a multi-step process to treat my skin and while it gets rid of the big, deep pimples (caused by hormones or makeup for me), i couldn’t get rid of the tiny ones on my forehead no matter how hard i tried. i saw this, decided “what do i have to lose at this point” and within a week my forehead was clear for the first time in YEARS. now i know it was because of fungal acne, and wouldn’t have worked otherwise, but just your short getting me to try it has truly given me new confidence now that my skin is clear. thank you so much elyse

this works for fungal acne which lots of people suffer with on their forehead and stuff. unfortunately head and shoulders can do more damage than good for some people (myself) as the surfactant in it are harsh and there's artificial fragrance in it. BUT I'm saying that, it can work for some people for sure, and there are other zinc shampoos that are a little less harsh that are also fantastic for this issue. if it works for you keep it up!!! it's a money/life saver tbh, more people need to talk about it.

None of costs much. Other people spend more than that in a month on a single small jarred cream with 0,0000005% seaweed in it.
Licensed esthetician here...any sudden change to your skincare routine can cause breakouts. Using random products willy nilly (no matter how expensive) will do the same. If you continue to have break outs on your chin, it may be a hormonal shift as hormonal acne happens in that area. Not saying for you to stop using the shampoo -- if it's working for you, then cool. Grapeseed oil is a great cleanser should you need another option on the future.
@rynfornow3411 ty! Many people once past their mid-20s break out from their skin not being hydrated enough (which makes their skin produce more oil so they think they are oily), or their pH is thrown off (because most cleansers are alkaline and our skin is slightly acidic...this why folks need to use a toner after washing their face). The grapeseed oil avoids both issues. It's hydrophilic, so you can wipe off the excess with a damp rag. It's also mildly antiseptic and helps with inflammation and hyperpigmention. It's low on the comedogenic scale, so it's shouldn't cause pimples. I haven't had a person who didn't benefit from using this. The dandruff shampoo is prob helpful because it's antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and exfoliative, but our skin needs change with time, esp after any large hormonal changes like having a baby or just from 20s-30s or perimenopause. So the shift to using different skincare stuff could potentially have been a coincidence rather the singular cause, but again sudden shifts can trip the skin out. It's why I recommend the grapeseed oil to get folks to a place of balance without making them take on an elaborate regiment. I've always thought Elyse has lovely skin, so I def want her to have the knowledge she needs to get her skin back to balance without her needing to do a lot of work for it.
Also head and shoulders is good for fungal specifically, which is probably the reason it works really well on her. But for other acne types it won’t really help that much. And more people have fungal acne then they think.
zinc is no joke. I have a mineral sunscreen that’s zinc-based and when I’m wearing it regularly my skin is perfect, and it actively clears break outs. If I get a pimple I use the sunscreen and it goes away so fast!! EDIT: sorry I didn’t include the name originally! I use etude house’s sunprise sunscreen in the “mild airy” finish. I’ve used it for a few years now, it’s nice because it doesn’t leave as bad of a white cast as other mineral sunscreens *cough* cerave. Also ymmv since we all have different skin types ofc, but sunscreen is always a must :)
Zinc oxide is used as sunscreen and it’s not the same as zinc pyrithione used in anti dandruff shampoo. Also zinc in no way clears acne besides the fact that zinc alone is a powder that can slightly absorb oil. That’s it.
I took your advice and tried it. After about a year of really bad acne, H&S wiped it out in about a month. I had tried a lot of things and this is what finally worked. Everyone is different, but I’m so grateful it worked for me. Thank you!
For sure. Another pro tip: change your pillow cases at least once a week. Your face is oily. 8 hours a night on the same pillow case after a couple nights can start to cause break outs. Again, everyone is different, but highly recommend.
Can you explain how you use it like as a face wash or something and also I never got acne in my entire life but I still wanna try this trick for some reason
Zinc is actually medical used (as in lotions, pastes or pills) to increase wound healing. It also has a slightly desinfecting/ asepting effect on skin issues
I cannot emphasize enough just how timely this advice is. I've been stressing over buying more face wash; I just feel like it's so expensive for what it is! I'll be going to Walmart today. Thank you so much!!!!
the reason she broke out is by trying new products. i used to make the mistake of trying a bunch of different kinds because i kept breaking out, and only had clear skin after sticking to one brand for like 6 months+ if u switch it up randomly ur skin gets fucked up again 😭
@@user-zb6rl7yq8f true! I bought the exact same bottle she shows in this short, so it will be months before I run out. Haven't used it yet, but thinking I'll add it to my current face wash bottle. if you have sebaceous dermatitis (redness, flakiness, and little whiteheads in the crease of your nose) washing your nose with head and shoulders will also get rid of it but again this won’t work for everyone and be careful if you have sensitive skin edit: I forgot to mention washing your face with head and shoulders will only work to clear your skin if you have fungal acne or seborrheic dermatitis as these are both skin conditions caused by an overproduction of Malassezia yeast in the skin and zinc pyrithione (the active ingredient of head and shoulders) is an anti-fungal which is why it gets rid of it

Another tip for anyone who gets white spots on their skin that won’t tan - it is also a fungus that can be treated with dandruff shampoo, but not head and shoulders. I never had acne until I was in my 30’s, those hormones are rough man. 😭 I now have to take medication and most everything kills my face. I may need to give this a try, but it also terrifies me because of how badly I react to things now.
Test it out first just on one small portion of your face instead of your whole face, then gradually add in other areas until you see how your skin reacts to it. You can try zinc supplements as well. Skin issues are also indicative of things that may be going on in your digestive system, possibly food intolerances. Topically, retinol can be very helpful for managing acne, but it can be tricky if you have reactive skin, so I would recommend taking the same approach as mentioned above, starting with an over the counter retinol.
I've had deep cystic acne my entire life and Few things have helped it. I'm definitely going to try this. The other thing I've tried may help you... Only recently have I ever heard anything about needing to try to repair the skin barrier. I've only been concerned with fighting the acne attacks- and looking at my diet because I'd been told it was all hormones and diet. I think now it also may be a little because of how I irritated my skin trying to fight the acne. Johnny Ross posted a video about a technique called "slugging" where you put on your evening moisturizer, & whatever (I also have prescription Tretinoin) then putting a thin coat of petroleum jelly or CeraVe healing ointment on top. I had a huge breakout on my chin, but I figured... It can't get much worse! In the morning, my breakout area had calmed down immensely and started healing. I was shocked at the change. I honestly expected it to get much worse because of the CeraVe feeling oily. I'm really excited about this dandruff shampoo thing! Between that and the slugging, I may look 20 years younger soon!!!🥰
Oh my god. Thank you so freaking much! I'm getting married in a week and my skin looks better than it has in years! I have had the most stubborn acne and this has done so much. I've tried so many different types of face washes and routines and none really made any sort of impact, to the point where I was like "screw it" and stopped dealing with my face all together. But this, this helps! Like my face isn't completely clear but I have no black heads on my nose, I feel like my pores have shrunk, I've had a few pimples crop up but they only last a couple days instead of setting up shop. So glad you put this video up when you did.
just so you people know. shampoos, body products and whatever else might have zinc in them but they also have other ingredients that can cause irritation on your face. skincare products however include ingredients that are meant for your face, and body or scalp stuff include ingredients that are meant for body and scalp. dare i say everyone has different reactions to skincare, so if someone claims a dandruff shampoo helps with their acne it doesn't mean it will work for everyone. everybody's skin is unique, as well as their acne condition and history behind that condition. if your skin needs a certain product like zinc for example, you don't need to buy a shampoo, there's a ton of skincare with zinc as the main ingredient (serums, cleansers, toners, creams etc). so please people be careful and don't use tips from others until you do your research
Lol. There’s no face products with this type of zinc. This is an anti dandruff zinc that is an anti fungal. They don’t make face products specifically targeted for fungal acne. So this is kind of a “home remedy”. You can use many body products on the face even if it doesn’t say you can. Most body lotions for example can be used on the face. I wouldn’t use most body washes on the face however as the ph is usually too alkaline and the surfactants are usually too harsh. These anti dandruff shampoos for the face are only going to benefit people with fungal acne. In that case they’re excellent. I think Nizoral is far better than H&S though
@@Geozuksthis is actually a common suggestion. i’ve heard multiple ppl explain their derms said it isn’t necessary to buy a face wash but instead you can use the sud runoff from the shampoo that comes from your head while you’re washing your hair & it will have the same effect. obviously this technique is intended for ppl that aren’t suffering from more severe cases

I hope it works for her. I had terrible acne because of my extremely oily skin (on my back too just like her). I tried everything but it wasn’t until I stopped using facewash/skincare that my face finally cleared up. I literally would just use a gentle makeup remover (if I put makeup on that day) and rinse my face. I couldn’t believe it! I was so mad I didn’t try it sooner. I’m in my 30s now and I’m actually able to use skincare products without having breakouts. Now I’m somewhat of a “skincare junkie” trying to repair all the damage acne did to my poor skin. Acne can really be emotional damaging for for people, especially teens. Maybe you can take her to a dermatologist. That was the only other time I had clear skin, because they put me on accutane. I sadly have a lot of hyperpigmentation on my underarms from the malasezzia that I’m trying to deal with but Head and Shoulders/Selsun blue/whatever you can find with zinc is a godsend.
My remedy for Malassezia Folliculitis is as follows: 1) First Exfoliate your face ( forehead, around nose, scalp, underarm pits, where ever you get the dry flakey red irritated rash) . Use Baking Soda and water paste. Gently rub this onto your skin in circular motion with your fingertips. Then rinse with water. 2) If it is your scalp you can use the dandruff shampoo with zinc in it. Use your fingernails to scrape dead skin off of scalp, from behind ears, etc. Wash your hands throughly including under nails. 3) Apply a home made creme of Acidopholis lactabicilis in coconut oil. Just add 3 or 4 capsels of acidophilus lactabicilis powder in a fourth cup of coconut oil. Mix well to evenly distribute powder. This changed everything for me, I don't know where I originally saw this short but I've been using literally the same shampoo and my acne cleared up for the first time in a decade.
I asked my brother this morning how his face was so smooth because I'm over here with my mom shoving skincare products in my face trying to eliminate my acne, and he's just using Head and Shoulders...bruh
Yup! I developed a mild skin condition a few years back and dandruff shampoo was the only thing short of expensive meds that will actually clear it up when I have a flare-up
I use calamine lotion. It’s amazing! I don’t wash my face with it. I do use a Paula’s Choice gentle cleaner, but at night and in the am I put a thin layer of calamine lotion on my face. It’s great for oily skin, and helps with hyperpigmentation.
this video is the reason i just now found out i have fungal acne and not hormonal acne. 100% buying some Head and Shoulders when i go to the store next
Just be careful because head and shoulders contain some harsh chemicals so if you are gonna use it on your face just make sure you wash it off quickly!
My parents really had a point in putting zinc salve on everything especially when it was in the face (pimples, sore lips or nose from a cold etc). You can't go outside after putting it on because it stays white but let it sit over night and boom magic.
@@tinynhi.07 don't know for sure, some comments say it depends on the type of acne and I'm no expert when it comes to this. But I would suggest trying on one spot and see how it goes. Also I think you should just use for some bad spots in general, never for the whole face. If you cake all of it in this salve your skin probably won't be able to breathe properly, it's just too thick for that.
I literally went to a dermatologist today for my acne scars and pimples. she said all that vitamin/aha BHA serums/ niacinamide are not the solution. She gave me a basic face wash, moisturizer, micellar water, and sunscreen.
Good to know, Elyse 👍🏼. I believe this is what works great for fungal acne. If you have fungal acne your breakouts are probably itchy. Also it does not mean you are dirty for having itl!! It can come from towels depending on how/where they’re washed, from being humid outside, etc. some people are just more prone to it.

This should be top comment!
So if Zinc is helping why not just eat food with it or take the supplement 😮

It's not formulated for skin so it's way too stripping, especially if you have dry skin (news flash, excessive oil is also a symptom of dry skin). If you are going to do this, really double down on moisturising your skin properly.
What wait how is excessive oil a symptom of dry skin

She's right though. As a black American woman, I mostly would get my hair washed in the sink however the few time I would wash my hair in the shower, after the shampoo would run down my face, my skin would look amazing. It’s crazy because I thought about this today because i'm having some skin issue and now this was on my feed. I will do this for sure. Thanks for the tip!

The zinc is good for your skin I agree, but that’s why I use a zinc serum from the ordinary😂
I've heard of AHA, salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid and everything else but never zinc! Interesting!
I recently switched up my routine due to recommendations and my skin HATES it
My skin breaks out if I use salicylic acid because apparently I have a mild allergy to it. For so many years I used more of it thinking my skin was the problem but it ended up just being my skincare.

Ive been saying this forever.. all I do for skin care is cerave facial cleanser when I shower and equate moisturizer. thats it, and my face is really clear most of the time. we see a lot of influencers making us feel bad if we dont buy and use every oil, toner, cleanser, whatever out there. the key is to know your personal skin type, and do what you need to do for it. if I used half the beauty products used in a 12 step skin care routine, I would literally break out in hives.
This combo makes my face really red and itchy. I just use equate face wash now and cetaphil moisturizing cream. Not the one made for your face though.
This is for poor people lol
Fr, cleanser and sunscreen in the morning. Cleanser, retinol(or stronger retinoid) based creme and moisturiser in the evening. You dont need more, and the retinol stuff also only if you already have some wrinkles/skin imperfections that you want to get rid of.

Before using H&S on your face, please do a patch test.
Also, read up on medical/ dermatology sites about the benefits of topical zinc.

if you have sebaceous dermatitis (redness, flakiness, and little whiteheads in the crease of your nose) washing your nose with head and shoulders will also get rid of it but again this won’t work for everyone and be careful if you have sensitive skin
edit: I forgot to mention washing your face with head and shoulders will only work to clear your skin if you have fungal acne or seborrheic dermatitis as these are both skin conditions caused by an overproduction of Malassezia yeast in the skin and zinc pyrithione (the active ingredient of head and shoulders) is an anti-fungal which is why it gets rid of it
@@-Oddish- your welcome! feel free to ask any questions if you have, I’m not a specialist or anything but as someone with both of those skin conditions I have done a lot of research on the two

@@yessicadelrio5014 it won’t work on regular bacterial or hormonal acne. using head and shoulders will only help to reduce fungal acne as it is not caused by bacteria but rather a specific kind of yeast overgrowth.
there are many signs that suggest you have fungal acne such as:
• dandruff in your eyebrows
• your breakouts are mostly clustered small whiteheads or closed comedones
• your face is itchy where the bumps are
• normal acne products and ingredients do not help your skin but may even make it worse (ex. salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzol peroxide, etc.)
if you have experienced any of these definitely look up images of fungal acne and how you can find out if that’s what you have. having fungal acne is very tricky, as you have to adjust your whole skincare and makeup routine as many products contain ingredients such as cetearyl alcohol (and many more) that feed this yeast overgrowth and causes more fungal acne to appear.
You are absolutely brilliant. Sadly this is not me…I rarely get breakouts, but I look like Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer and I don’t want to buy makeup or skin products. Idk if this would really achieve anything for me…

Head and shoulders gave me chemical burns on my scalp... my roots were sticky from the puss coming from my scalp for a week... im not touching that shampoo again 😂 and I do not have sensitive skin or scalp
Honestly, less is more. I get asked what I do very often and the answer is: eat a lot of healthy fats, drink water, and use the least amount of skincare I can tolerate based on the climate/season. I'm an Esthetician and I used to have a CRAZY complicated routine. Never looked better while doing less.
Youre the reason I picked up a bottle a few months ago! I still get an occasional acne spot but it's definitely SO much better!

Another tip for anyone who gets white spots on their skin that won’t tan - it is also a fungus that can be treated with dandruff shampoo, but not head and shoulders. It needs to have Ketoconazole as the active ingredient, like Nizoral (sold over the counter, or you can get prescription strength. Those white spots ruined my summers until I found this treatment!
My derm said it's just not producing melanin, not a fungus. yet I've heard about what you're talking about. I'm going to check again tx
U can use athletes foot cream too

I never had acne until I was in my 30’s, those hormones are rough man. 😭 I now have to take medication and most everything kills my face. I may need to give this a try, but it also terrifies me because of how badly I react to things now.
update us please!!! does it work for you?
I vouch for this. Get the eucalyptus type and it’s like a spa… I use it as body wash too.

So glad you put this video up when you did.
how did your marriage go?
just so you people know. shampoos, body products and whatever else might have zinc in them but they also have other ingredients that can cause irritation on your face. skincare products however include ingredients that are meant for your face, and body or scalp stuff include ingredients that are meant for body and scalp. dare i say everyone has different reactions to skincare, so if someone claims a dandruff shampoo helps with their acne it doesn't mean it will work for everyone. everybody's skin is unique, as well as their acne condition and history behind that condition. if your skin needs a certain product like zinc for example, you don't need to buy a shampoo, there's a ton of skincare with zinc as the main ingredient (serums, cleansers, toners, creams etc). so please people be careful and don't use tips from others until you do your research
Thank you
@@audiosophydermatologist that lives in her mind. Besides, that doesn't mean you should it too lmao

I personally have used Selsun Blue and similar dandruff shampoos on my nose specifically since I have malastesia furfur (no idea if I’m spelling that right) specifically around my nostrils and it has definetly helped. However, be careful to not overdo this kind of thing if your skin is reactive like mine; I don’t use it every day or I will start to get breakouts on my nose bc it’s HARSH.
oh my god OH MY GOD-I think you just changed my life. I looked it up because it sounded familiar, and malassezia folliculitis is *literally* what I have dealt with my entire life and have not been able to address it with ANYTHING. I'm going to add anti-dandruff shampoo to my body care routine and see how it goes 🥵
@JJouissance Ahh I’m so happy I was able to be of help!! I hope it works as well for you as it has for me. I also have malassezia on my underarms and leaving some dandruff shampoo on for 5 min then rinsing it off my pits has been a lifesaver. I sadly have a lot of hyperpigmentation on my underarms from the malasezzia that I’m trying to deal with but Head and Shoulders/Selsun blue/whatever you can find with zinc is a godsend.
My remedy for Malassezia Folliculitis is as follows:
1) First Exfoliate your face ( forehead, around nose, scalp, underarm pits, where ever you get the dry flakey red irritated rash) .
Store in small tin or jar with lid.
4) Apply the acidophilus cream every time you wash your face. The acidophilus will kill the bad bacteria and correct the malassezia overgrowth.
5) You can take one of the acidophilus lactabicilis capsels daily orally ( by mouth) to correct your gut microbiome.
RITE AIDE has two for one their store brand acidophilus lactabicilis capsels. Dollar Tree has coconut oil on food isle.
4) Take oral supplement of zinc
5 ) Use plain coconut oil as a moisturizer on wet skin.
