I thought I understood Stateful and Stateless widgets but then I saw this on the flutter.io website and I am not sure why they are creating the TextField as Stateful when their is no setState() method called. Did they make a mistake and should have made this stateless? flutter.dev/docs/cookbook/forms/text-field-changes
yes you can do but after createState() use this MyHomePageState(). like this example :- class MyHomePage extends StatefulWidget { @override _MyHomePageState createState() => MyHomePageState( ); }

What build method does?
it returns the widget ex:return Scaffold(appbar:Appbar(),body:Row(), ........); where Scaffold is the root widget.
