  • A get home bag is in case you get stuck out someplace and must walk a long distance to get home or to safety.
If you leave it in an SUV or car without a trunk, people can see in and may want to steel it. Also, I have noticed an increase in car break-ins over night, and my wife doesn't want to have to bring the bag in over night everyday.
So, she filled up the bag with what she wanted, to make sure it would all fit. Then, she took out the items and hid them.
If she needs to use the bag, she will put everything inside and away she goes!
For the pack itself, just make sure in can be folded up so you can fit it under a seat. We got ours from Target. Below is a link to a bag that looks like a non-tactical kind of bag for this kind of thing. From there, you can see others…

I made my own first aid kit, but the one in the link below seems like a pretty decent kit for this kind of thing. From there, you can check out others.

The ham radio she and I both keep in our cars are Baofengs because the are cheap. See the link below. There is a steep learning curve for this radio, however.

If you want ham radio that is easier to use, check out the Yaesu FT 60R. My wife keeps one at work. It cost more, though.

Amazon has a few antennas for the radios with magnetic mount so you can put it on the car when needed. Below is an example. Be sure you have the correct connector for your radio.

She actually has 2 Sawyer water filtration systems. See below:

She also keeps several bottles of water. Water is heavy, so she plans to drink a lot of it before hoofing it.
She has other things in the pack as well.

Now that’s very smart. I can’t walk very far unless I have something to hang onto. So I got a baby stroller with a sun shade on it. My get-home bag will fit where the baby goes and a baby blanket over the sun shade will hide it.

She is fortunate that she has someone who thinks about this topic and cares enough to help her. Thank you to all the guys out there that step up to the plate.
Keep pushing forward, those of us shouldering the burden of preparing for ourselves and others who may depend on us.

Yes, this is my issue. I drive a Land Cruiser and there is no place to hide the contents of my very tactical looking bag, unless I try to stuff items under the front seats.

Thats why we just empty the bag and hide contents and hide empty bag. If needed, put it all together and go.

I have mine stashed in a black tote that sits in the floorboard of the backseats. My windows are tinted. I feel like that was less obvious than being in the back hatch of my suv. I’m thinking of switching to a Sidio Crate because it’s lower profile and can be configured with different dividers

I am quite uninformed in the world of SHTF prepping, so I’m curious why you feel the need to disguise or hide the contents of a getaway bag?

Because if the bag were visible, someone would break in and take it. This is meant to remain in the car 24/7.

Do you have a video on Ham radios? AND do you think in a grid down emergency situation you would even need to worry about having a license?

My husband just made me a get home bag, but I drive an SUV. I was trying to hide it behind the seat but doesn't hide well. I will give your idea a try with my get home bag. Love all your videos!

I drive a truck with a toolbox. Have been contemplating storing it in the toolbox. Has anyone done this?

Sure does, minus 3 bottles water and antenna which goes with the car anyway.

You can use a contractor trash bag with broken boxes and full of random trash. Put your get home bag inside of a clean bag same color.
You can use this same technique at home to hide things on the bottom of a trash can.

I get that, but my wife and I dont want to drive around with all that in our car. We need the room also. That was the point of my video.
