For anyone thinking about keeping st Thomas mushrooms they are not as easy to keep as rhodactis or discos. They react similar to anemones and are extremely prone to dropping off the rockwork if they are unhappy. You could have them in a mushroom box for weeks and they could be happily attached to rubble only to drop off in the short time it takes to mount them on your rock work. I have a large 5 inch ultra orange st Thomas and it took tons of moving to get it into a spot where it would stay attached and happy. It's a beautiful specimen but in hindsight if you are going to drop the cash a high end rhodactis is a better option.
I just got a pretty red one this month for my seahorse tank. I saw that the lfs I ordered has another colour in stock which reminds me of skittles. Neon green and purple body with olive green vesicles and pink tips 🤩
Hey March, just curious why you don’t use those cheap latex gloves? Whenever you’re glueing corals, or just sticking your hand into the system. Throw one on! Not only does it help with the glue, but prevents all the oils from your hand from getting into the systems. Food for thought, I suppose!
I have three blue St Thomas that I have had several years. I feed mine mysis. When feeding mine close up and look like tulips. They will be moved to my new Caribbean biotope build thats underway.
My mushrooms are stretching and cupping up like zoas would. Using hydra 26hd. Thought maybe stretching for light so i turned it up and they did look better. Then now weeks later they stretch up again. Idk if i should turn lights up higher again or what. I like it when they open flat covering the rock. Seeing my mushrooms look like cups is just err not so nice?
Hey March, im setting up the 6G Reef Casa that you have in this video. Did you change the stock pump? If so what did you put in? And also wondering about the size and attachment for the RFG. Thank you!!
I love my elephant ear mushroom its huge like 8” or so and it has very similar vesicles to the st thomas covering thin inner 3/4” of it, its really awesome just wish they came in bright colors like the st thomas
i have local guys selling them for the same price as a bounce mushroom. $300-thousands. and not really rare in our area. i think people are still trying to get into those. and yes, they do grow large, not just 3 inches. our local guy has one in the 4-5 inches
any chance you could do a video on digitate hydroids? i am finding SO much conflicting information online. please help with information and experience if you have dealt with them. thanks
