  • The Didcot Railway Centre held a Covid-secure Steam-Up event over the weekend of Saturday 1st to Monday 3rd May 2021 celebrating the return of GWR 'Avonside' 0-4-0ST No.1340 "Trojan" following an extensive restoration.
"Trojan" began the day running a short Goods Train along the Demonstration Branch Line from 10:30am through to around noon before coming off to rest outside the Engine Shed and line-up alongside the centre's three other 0-4-0 Tanks: WTR No.5 "Shannon", Cardiff Docks No.1338 and RSH No.1 "Bonnie Prince Charlie" before taking over the passenger train from GWR 5101-class 'Large Prairie' 2-6-2T No.4144 on the Main Demonstration from 13:30pm to 15:15pm.
This video begins with "Trojan" running along the Branch Line with the Goods Train from Burlescombe to Didcot Halt followed by a sequence of No.4144 on the Main Line finishing up with "Trojan" doing the same.
The second May Bank Holiday weekend will feature a similar Steam-Up event with both Tank Engines being joined by GWR 2900-class 'Saint' 4-6-0 No.2999 "Lady of Legend" fresh from its visit to the Severn Valley Railway.

great footage of this amazing little Avonside saddle tank engine return to steam. must be very useful when they need a engine to shunt a few troublesome trucks around the sidings

No Percy Comments, so I'm the first one to comment about this basis on this video.

    *Trojan’s whistle*
    “Trojan? Trojan!”
    “Is that really you, 1360?”
“Indeed it is. The name is Percy now. It’s great to see you, sister!”
“I haven’t seen you in years. I missed you!”
“I never thought I’d see you again.”
“Me too. It’s been about ninety years. I was beginning to think I would never see you again, and yet here you are!”
“You know, I’m close to celebrating my 120th birthday, Trojan.”
“Well, I’ve had mine a few years ago already. I’ve heard that you’re good friends with an SR E2 and an LNER J70.”
“I am. Their names are Thomas and Toby, respectively. They may be a year apart from each other in age, but they are very different in how they do things.”
“I’m glad that you’ve been doing fine on Sodor.”
“Thank you. And I hope that you are doing fine here.”
    *Duck’s and Oliver’s whistles*
“Since this is a Great Western-based heritage site, I decided to bring some Great Western friends along.”
    “A 5700 and a 1400. Hmm.”
“Hello. My name is Montague, but you can call me Duck. These here are Oliver, Alice, Mirabel, Isabel, Dulcie, and Toad.”
“Autocoaches and a Toad brake van. Interesting. Greetings. I am Great Western 1340, but you can call me Trojan.”
“Umm, excuse me, Ms. Trojan, but are there other Toads nearby? This is the perfect time for us Great Western stock to catch up on old times.”
“Certainly. In fact, all of your classes, both the engines and rolling stock, are here. You can’t toss an apple here without hitting something Great Western.”
“Excellent. Percy, Oliver, coaches, Toad, do you know what this is?”
    “What?”
    “What is it, Mr. Duck?”
“This is a GREAT WESTERN REUNION!”
