- On a tiny Bahamian island called Bimini, not so long ago, a dog was born. That dog was Sandy....a dolphin dog. Although a stray, Sandy infiltrated into our hearts and home, always wanting to be part of what is happening at our WildQuest retreat centre. She started coming on our boat DolphinQuest at the beginning or end of the season when we went out with just the crew, and she would jump in the water with no fear, excitedly swimming with the dolphins and us in the open ocean. So adorable to watch her talking to the dolphins from the bow of the boat, ears all up and forehead scrunched. And we were amazed to see how the dolphins totally accepted her in the water, swimming around her, making friends and playing.
Many of you who've visited us at WildQuest know Sandy well and have spent many enjoyable moments together at our retreat centre or walking on the beach. Many many happy times together. We made this video as a small tribute celebrating our love for Sandy as she moves onto new adventures with her new adoptive family. Thank you Sandy we love you. Our WildQuest dolphin dog ❤️🐬🐕

She really does love to swim and for anyone wondering, we are with Sandy the whole time in the water and our boat is right behind us, she gets back on whenever she wants (see at 0:52 when she jumps in and 5:39 when she's riding back home on the boat). She is very loved and cared for 💞

She can't float without paddling -- which means she can't float. And she doesn't know how much energy to conserve before she heads back or even how far out she's going)

Sandy is an amazing swimmer. When she has enough she always returns to the boat. Plus if she is in the water with us we always keep an eye on her.
Please get her a life jacket anyways ;). She doesn’t get to float peacefully as people do. It’s constant hard work for her.

She obviously dosen need one. She swims as fast as the dolphins and faster than the humans wearing fins… She has the perfect body shape for floating. And the water here is very salty which will keep her afloat. A life jacket would just be in her way and would make it harder for her to swim. It would make her tired faster.
It’s a whole different story if you swim in sweet water or if the dog has a different shape, more fur or other things that get heavy in the water. She pretty much is like a cork. The reason she moves fast is because she manages to keep up with the dolphins! Which in itself is quite amazing. What an experience for all involved. Lovely little caption.
Hope Sandy is doing well with her new family. I guess she has been with them for several years now. It would be lovely to know if she has kept her marine life interest. 🥰

What an extraordinary experience for Dolphins to experience man’s best friend up close. What a lucky doggie! I hope he tells all the other dogs about it. I hope he dreams about this day over and over again, his 4 paws moving in his sleep with the waves.
What a really good swimmer Sandy is and she was so sure of herself when she reached the dolphins fully aware that they are not the same species but got along perfectly well beating us humans out , showing that even animals from two entirely different sides can get along . Shame on us humans . What a beautiful video this is and it needs to be shown everywhere especially in America.

I was initially worried too. I was afraid Sandy would get tired. But then, I’ve heard that dolphins have sometimes rescue sea stranded people and animals. Anyway, this was so lovely. It brought tears to my eyes. That water!! Nothing I ❤ more than love more than dogs and dolphins. Thank you for sharing this. God truly made a beautiful earth.
Beautiful interaction with many animals! I too was worried about the dog, but I saw that you all stayed close by the whole time. I also saw how excited she got when she was close to the dolphins, really close. She obviously loves the water and has built up time in the water and you all are right there with her. we had a duck dog. there was a small lake near us and we we took our dog's every day for year's one of our dog's made friends with a family of ducks. she would start barking when she got near and they would all come out to meet her. this went on about 5years then one day she started barking as usual but there was just silence. we got there and they were all dead. shot by some A hole. poor pipper was beside herself , she swam that lake crying for her buddies. I miss her she was a gentle soul

Thank you for your post about there being a boat close by. I found myself asking why Sandy wasn't in a life jacket since dogs can't float in a relaxed manner like humans. This was a lovely video. I envy Sandy. 😊
You could try a thin life jacket on her cause it is very deep water there and if she got sick she could sink so as a preventative measure it would be a good idea. Also put a float in water she could jump on to nearby cause the boat might be too far away if she needed to jump to safety.
Most dogs can swim but we keep life jackets on all our dogs. Our Lab, without a life jacket, got tired swimming with my husband and tried to climb on his back for a float. Our shepherd fell off the pulpit of our boat when an idiot boater paid no attention to the no wake signs. Even though I threw the boat in neutral the boat kept moving forward and my husband had to jump in wearing cold weather clothes and rescue the exhausted dog with floats and rafts. I did not want to put the boat in reverse for fear of colliding with the dog.

Well, some animals don't get along so well. It's just the natural order of life with animals. 😊😊💗💗 But it is good to see this dog is compatible with the dolphins.
I’m happy Sandy has a family who has adopted her. I’m sure she dreams or swimming with you and the dolphins.
There’s no excuse, life vests for talks are paper thin and will not inhibit the animals abilities. It will make this one less taxing and enable her a longer time as she obviously enjoys spending time with the dolphins. As a highly trained veterinary technician I beg you to get a vest, some dogs have been known to over exert themselves and unknowingly give themselves a heart attack. By the time you noticed and got the animal back to land or on a boat it would be too late…

For dolphins and dogs the pack instinct is strong. The dog feels like part of the pod like wolves in the wild need the pack.
