We have good depth in many key areas this season. We can actually battle it out in the League as well as the UEL if we complete a CDM signing, ideally Ugarte.
One of the reasons why our press could be disjointed is because of our inconsistent CB partnership. We had Evans and Maguire in the first half against City and had to be careful not to overly commit going higher up the pitch. Not a coincidence that the press improved when Martinez moved to his preferred CB position even with Evans on the pitch. I expect a much improved and consistent press once De Ligt and Martinez become our settled CB partnership. We cannot ignore the lack of pace Evans and Maguire possess wouldn't hinder us in games where they feature together. I'm really positive going into the new season. Like you said, it wouldn't be perfect but it will be much improved from last season
The only thing they offer is inside the box defending. They are quite good at it though, and Maguire came in clutch in many endgame situations last season.

Inspite of having a wonderful preseason, I don't think Amad should start over Garnacho who had a very good season last year and should retain his starting spot. Rashford should be on the bench and Garnacho on the left and Amad on the right but Rashford will start and I can understand why the coach would make that decision. Benching him the first game of the season without giving him a run of games to show he has regained his form will result in him losing the player for good. I know there will be a lot of pushback on that point saying he had his shot but realistically Rashford is unsellable from his bad form last season cause he's on big money. So he needs to play and when he's performing like shit, the coach can drop him and there should be no fuss from Rashford. At the end of the day we need all 3 players firing so the squad can be rotated without drop in form.

Saying that, ENEOS stated that it will take 3 transfer windows to transition the squad. I think the most we should expect is the sign of a genuine style of play, an improvement in results and to challenge Spurs, Newcastle, Villa and Chelsea for 4th.

@andrewvictor5216 First half impressions: Maguire is still a donkey even when he plays well, it looks like Rashford is the same player he was last season, Casimiro's legs have gone, Mazroui looks fantastic, we did not get cut open like last season, we controlled large portions of the game and our passing in tight spaces was good. Overall it's a definite improvement. Let's see what the second half brings.

Maguire thrives in a high line as well, as long as there's a fast CB next to him his lack of recovery pace shouldn't be a problem.
