    This is a good solution for someone seeking to cover a home where you have wifi dead zones. It does a good job of covering your home but it's a very simple router missing some more advance router features

      I just picked up a 3-pack yesterday for that exact reason. We had a dead spot in the Living Room that was extremely frustrating. Got the Google Wifi and it was taken care of immediately. It has only been one day, but that dead spot was taken care of and the speeds seem to be alot more consistent. The modem from my ISP was weirdly inconsistent.

    Early in the video you mention that the use of a network extender can reduce the Internet speed by up to 50%. I have purchased, but not yet installed, a FiOS network extender. As I will be requiring more bandwidth to use some new video doorbell cameras, I'm wondering whether the Google WiFi products would be worthwhile to me. I have 50 MBps service in both directions. I have read that some cameras exhibit considerable delay with non-optimal WiFi connections. Could you elaborate on your comment regarding extenders and discuss whether they could/should be used together with the Google WiFi products? Thanks!

      Each one you have connected your speed will drop off.
      But if all are hard wired your speed will not drop off as much.

    At 14:00, you completely misunderstood the "Test Internet" feature. That is testing the internet speed coming into your home (ie, the speed between your primary wired router and Google's servers). It has nothing to do with wifi. When you got a low number, you said that maybe it's because your phone connected to 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz. That makes no sense at all. Btw, there's a separate "Test Device" feature. That's what you're looking for; it will test the speed to your particular device, over wifi.

    I have a 2400 square foot ranch style house with verizon fios. I am looking to increase my coverage out to my kitchen and yard (spotty right now). I also would like to get rid of my extensive bill for land line, TV and internet services. Any suggestions. Also, can these systems be hacked since they are wireless?

    Do you know how many of the access points you can have in one house? Can you buy 3 packs of 3 and have them all working together? I am helping family set up wifi and they will definitely need more than 3. Right now I am running 2 asus ac5300 routers (one as an access point) and it doesn't cover their house and there is not a handoff which I am hoping this will do a lot better.

    Apart from being different in speed reduction from extenders how much punch does it have in crossing walls?
    I have a room almost next to my router but the signal when the door is closed is almost unavailable, almost dead zone, will placing one of these devices solve this? I figured out that if a router signal is not passing through how these devices will be different as its obviously not a distance issue.

    I have a cable modem (from ISP) and it connects to an Ooma, then from
    Ooma to a separate Linksys router. Some people have it going from
    modem->router->Ooma. So can I hook up the Google WiFi point to my
    router (in its existing hardware configuration) or do I have to get rid
    of my router and attach Google WiFi directly to the modem and then
    attach the Ooma onto the other Ethernet port on the Google WiFi? Also,
    is it possible to cannot a switch to the Google WiFi point if I needed
    to connect additional wired Ethernet devices?

    • @SaeedMukhtar
      @SaeedMukhtar 5 лет назад

      it is recommended that you removed the router. Having 2 routers will possibly make things on 2 different network and also you will be running a double NAT that can make port forwarding for different applications a headache

    Thanks for your review. Can I connect a NAS, in my case, a WD My Cloud via LAN cable. It looks to have RJ-45 for the internet connection, USB for power and an additional RJ-45 plug. Do you have anything hardwired to the google hockey-puck device?

    How are you getting 130 wireless downloads? I have the lightning 200mb connection and most of the time on my wireless connections I get 50mb. Sometimes I can get 75mb but that's it. I think it's my router but not sure. I'm hoping something like this will help me get faster speeds. All my wired stuff rocks, it's just the wifi.

      If you are connected to a 2.4 GHz your speeds will be limited. You need to switch to a 5Ghz connection. The downsize is that 5Ghz has less coverage. This is Why a mesh setup is so useful. Now I can have 5GHz all across the house

    I followed a number of reviewers who compared the Google version, the Eero, and the Orbi. Eero & Orbi had far better throughput strength, while Google had easy to use S/W. I bought the Netgear Orbi and love it. No signal loss from 80' away through three very thick walls, and still great signal from some distance away from house.

    • @ebpman

      I am testing the ORBI now and agree with your comments. ORBI has more robust features and better bandwidth.

      I'm pretty tech savvy but I really hate buying things without hearing people's recommendations. I actually thought this review was for the nest wifi from Google but I'm looking for a 3 puck system for my home. Single family ranch style and we have a 20x40 inground pool in the back. We use the wifi back there in the summer alot so range is definitely important. I would love your opinion and any one else who'd like to throw there's in. This is a Christmas present for the house so the sooner and more detailed the better to me.. thank you all so much, Mike

    Question....I have T-Mobile's Personal CellSpot WiFi router. As a T-Mobile customer, I get to have it free and it prioritizes Wi-Fi based calling.
    But in my apartment the signal weakens. I could use just one of these in the apartment to lengthen signal strength to the living room?

    • @ebpman
      @ebpman  7 лет назад +1

      This would have to be connected to the t mobile router which is in many cases an asus one. it would not act as a mesh network only as a standard network. On its own it's not as powerful as a standard router. You may need two

      I apologize for the continuing question, but is the translation of what you said essentially stating that me getting one single Google WiFi and trying to attach it to my T-Mobile router would not yield a mesh outcome? But if I went out and got two of these Google WiFi's and connected them to the T-Mobile CellSpot, THEN I'd get a mesh network? lol
      My apologies.

    I bought the google wifi 3 pack for my in laws. Going there soon to set it up. They currently have a frontier modem / router. It is the only place I can plug the google wifi into. By doing this I will now have 2 routers on the network. Will this still work?
    Thank you for your respons.

    • @ebpman
      @ebpman  7 лет назад

      You can have them both but here is the issue. Each router will create a network. So let's call one N1 and the other N2. Devices on n1 will not be able to communicate with devices on n2. For most homes this is not an issue unless you have a printer on n2 that your want to print to and your on n1. does that make sense? Now one work around is to put your primary router in AP mode and connect it to your main google wifi router that is connected to the internet. This will combine both networks under the same IP range hence creating one network

      cachememory I may not be understanding the question, however I have my Google mesh wired thru my Netgear router and it works great. I just have 2 actually 3 with a Netgear extender WiFi connections. So I don’t have to turn off the Netgear router. However just like the extender I have to have devices on same WiFi. Ie. Printer is on Netgear so I have to be logged onto Netgear to print. I will eventually convert all to google then do away with the Netgear. I make this statement because I was told by a tech at the store where I bought the google mesh it would not work. I elected to try it and it does work. Side note, increased my speed over 3x over the Netgear.

  • @jamescarlini1727

    If you have a router that has WiFi built in with it , you have to call your internet provider and have them bridge your WiFi, and that will turn you’re WiFi on your router off, now you just have a router. If you do not do this step the google WiFi will not work as designed. Hope this helps.....
