    Developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall in the 1980s and 1990s for the German Army, the PzH 2000 is a howitzer renowned for its exceptional hit accuracy and range.
    🎬 Key Points:
    📌 The system is equipped with a 155 mm/L52 howitzer, capable of meeting effective range requirements at all elevation angles, providing a complete 360-degree coverage. Unlike many other artillery systems that require forward observers to adjust their guns after initial shots, the PzH 2000 can directly target given coordinates, receiving target data via a datalink. This system even has the capacity to launch three shells within a span of 10 seconds.
    📌 A standout feature of the PzH 2000 is its capability for Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) firing. The vehicle is equipped with a fully-automatic loading system, complete with an ammunition management system, ready to handle standard NATO 155 mm ammunition.
    📌 The howitzer can reach up to 18.6 miles (30 km) using standard HE-FRAG shells, which extends to 24.8 miles (40 km) with a base bleed shell. Employing a South African VLAP rocket-assisted shell, the PzH 2000 can achieve an impressive range of 34.8 miles (56 km). Since last year, it has been deployed to the fiercest frontlines in Ukraine, where it continues to deliver accurate and devastating strikes.

    I was a radar sergeant (forward observer when shooting with bad weather conditions like fog etc.) in the late 90s early 2000s when we were the first battalion in Germany to receive this wonderful weapon as the successor to the M109 A3GA1. Our task was to put the PZH2000 through its paces and get the most out of it. Apparently our hard work back then is paying off today. Seeing the PZH2000 successfully in use today fills me with pride!

    While the Pzh2000 ranks among the pinncacle of current mobile artillery capabilities, a true revolution of classic artillery warfare is unfolding rather unnoticed. On August 18. 2021, the prototype of Pzh2000 succesor , the RCH155 , a lighter wheeled vehicle using the same gun system and featuring remote control capability, demonstrated its ability of carrying out a fire mission and hitting its target while driving down a dirt track with up to 30 kph. For more than 100 years, and right now in the war in Ukraine, mobile and stationary artillery had to remain stationary to fire and then to change its position as fast as possible right afterwards to escape response artillery fire resulting from the inevatible geolocation by beyond line-of-sight, acoustic, seismic or modern radar electronic counter-artillery systems.

    • @benjaminshtark5977
      @benjaminshtark5977 10 месяцев назад

      i sometimes wonder why many countries continue to produce heavy and very expensive tracked artillery units like this one?
      if you eliminate tracks and all armor, and put 8 wheels instead, you will have much cheaper unit with same gun and ballistics and also gain speed.
      for example, 152 mm SpGH DANA is excelent example of such unit.
      it has set of 8x8 wheels, nice gun and is much cheaper and faster than pzh2000 at least on roads.. and on off-roads it can go quite well too..

    • @Celeon999A
      @Celeon999A 10 месяцев назад

      I think its because tracked vehicles still offer better offroad capabilities in bad weather conditions. Wheeled vehicles get stuck in mud , snow and sand much easier than tracked ones and have greater problems with inclines. Then there is the lack of armor as wheeled vehicles can only sustain a certain weight. Ukraine for instance had great problems with deploying their Himars during winter. The regular old Mars launchers which they got from Germany and others are slower but much more mobile during that time @@benjaminshtark5977

      Its a Howitzer, a HOWITZER! and not A TANK, which Howitzer you know in the World who has got a reasonable protective armor? I cant name one. The Howitzers are supposed to be 30-50km behind the front lines and also needs to be quick to relocate due to counter artilleries, they are already heavy so no need to have extra tons of armor additionally. The PHZ2000 is actually the heaviest Howitzer and best protected in the World but also 20-30 years old, the design is infact from the Cold War Era. The replacement is already in the making the RCH 155, its now operated by just only 2 crew members instead of 5 like in the PHZ2000. The newer Modell is quicker to fire, agile and fast to maneuver but no armour because its a HOWITZER! :)

      That's a feedback I keep seeing from Ukrainian soldiers who used both Russian and Western combat systems: the Russian systems are disposable (and treat their crews as such), are hard to use and not good, whereas as the Western systems pay attention to ergonomics (less crew fatigue -> higher performance for longer), are far more precise (one gunner mentioned 500m CEP vs 50m CEP for the first round from MSTA-S vs PzH2000) and are designed for crew survivability (mostly tanks and IFVs). Against vehicles I think BONUS or SMArt155 are a better choice. They are almost identical: Each shell contains 2 self-guided submunitions which search out vehicles and destroy them. Ukraine received both and there are videos of both showing one shell destroying 2 tanks. Both cover an area of around 32.000sqm and can destroy targets moving at up to 50km/h (30mph). The diffeence between BONUS and SMArt155 is that one descends on winglets, the other on tiny parachutes and BONUS uses 2 different IR sensors while SMArt155 one IR and millimeter wave radar.
      The beauty is that all the smarts of these are in the shells and can therefore be fired from any NATO-standard 155mm howitzer, just aim it over the area you want and the submunitions do the rest. Truly fire-and-forget. Germany paid roughly half of the cost of 1 M982 Excalibur for each of their SMArt155 shells (they gave €510 million for development and production and got 9000 shells in return with a further 400 being used for testing).

      If the war in Ukraine has proved one thing it's that industrial warfare is still very much with us. There was this perception that mass production weapons were a thing of the past and warfare was going to be small amounts of high tech weapons. Ukraine has shattered that perception and in both the US and Europe there is a significant transfer of resources from expensive high tech systems to cheaper low tech systems.
      Biden has put in the order to triple the US production of unguided artillery shells by the end of 2023. Over the past decades the production of unguided artillery shells was wound down as there was the perception they were obsolete in the age of drones. This has proven very false.

    The maintenance thing is due to the rifled barrel. It can do about 2000 to 4000 shots with precision but then the rifles get worn out and the precision is gone. Can be fixed with changing the barrel what takes some time and is costly. But precision means each round is close to the target. the russians fire too many rounds in the rough direction of the enemy and dont hit much. Mostly due to high numbers of rounds they hit something. Depends also on what you want to achieve with your artillery. Take out enemy devices and bunkers or just cover trenches of the enemy.

    It als can make a 3 Bullets burst shot(like you mentioned) in 10seconds and with change of the height of the barrel, the all hit nearly at the same time at the targeted position, so the enemy gets confused by it and thinks there are 3 PzH200 in one position when in reality there is only one.

      That has always been the case, back then it was Tiger vs T-34. Tiger was superior but more expensive and harder to maintain while the russians could just mass-produce and afford to lose 3 or even 4 T-34s to kill a single Tiger.
      This also has to do with available resources, size of the country etc. With limited resources and not so much space to cover it is obviously smarter to build fewer but higher quality equipment. If you have to defend such a large area but have enough raw materials you can go mass instead of class.
      About neglecting the Bundeswehr and giving it smaller and smaller budgets: That's what you do when you think the world is going more peaceful and nobody would be crazy enough to start another big scale international war. It made sense 30, 20 or even 10 years ago, better invest in schools, welfare, infrastructure etc than in weapons that just rot away unused and are environmental liabilities. It STILL astounds me that russia would be so stupid to even try this. Such a waste of life and material
