Interesting, I was in Vancouver in '86 I believe it was when a jewelry store was robbed on Granville St. Granville St. Is a high end shopping area with a cobblestone street that only buses and taxis are allowed. There is above ground and underground shopping. I was above ground on the sidewalk with a friend just checking out the area as I'd never seen anything like it where i had grown up, when suddenly there were cops and sirens everywhere. At the time I didn't know what had happened. I heard on the news that it was a jewelry store robbery. Fast forward several years I watched a documentary type show called "masterminds" and it was about this guy and all his robberies he'd gotten away with. I was watching it with my girlfriend and I told her I was there when this jewelry store robbery went down, she didn't believe me lol Then several more years later the fifth estate did an episode about this guy and that very robbery. I was right there when it went down :) I was literally about 30 meters from the jewelry store when it was Robbed.
Yip. He looks like he's enjoying it. Smiling about it and joking about it. Even the journalist seems to think this is funny. He's a criminal for F's sake. If he had had to use his gun he would have and probably killed someone. HE didn't have to use his gun because the general public he was pointing it at cared for their lives, unlike him. He's vile.
Loosing your freedom and ability ti do what you want when you want is enough and no I've never been to jail and don't know anyone that has but I did have my freedom taken from me because of circumstances I could not control . I'm not condoning this guy's behaviour but I am saying losing your freedom is enough to scar You forever , granted he deserved it but it's still awful
I was just in a rehab with him just few weeks back he is in indiana right now there is a book about him and yes they are making a movie will be out next year he is a very nice man
If he stays sober he will have a very powerful testimony which will inspire countless people. It goes to show you what alcohol and drug addiction can do to a person. I hope the both of you stay sober. It is your life.
No cctv, or very poor quality & they were fun times. The start of the acid/rave/drug scene. Fighting at football in the day time then partying with everyone in the evening.
Fellas, always remember, work solo... This dude would have made a hell of a CEO of his own business with his inviting temperament, especially if he surrounded himself with the most competent and reliable few....
i have a strange respect for him, not snitching shows he is a man of principles, takes his punishment like a man and gets on with it. something tells me the leftover loot isn't hidden...its in th safe hands of the fatman
lol He knows where the money is and he won't name his friends to get out early because they may have some of his money and/or take care of his family while he is locked up.
Hahaha, as if the reason he won't give up his co-conspirators is because he's such a "stand up guy" and a "trusted friend". He obviously knows that if he rats, the big scary guys will start to eye up his family.
J C not really some criminals got a code they live by and don’t tattle tale you would be surprised how many people in prison are serving long sentences which they could’ve eaisly avoided by giving the cops names
Canada is very, very lenient and these crimes in the USA where he came from would get him Colorado Super Max and multiple life terms. YOU point a loaded gun in my face, and the media narrator repeats ad nauseum that "no shots were ever fired" completely misses the point of having a gun in your face. It's induced trauma for all the low paid retail clerks this guys and his buddies made miserable. The employees will be dealing with this guys moves on them for years. And their families.
Agree how our Canadian justice system is way too lenient. It’s always about money there too. Overcrowded prisons in Canada sounds like a joke to me. Maybe overcrowding them, if that’s even possible here, with a lot less rights and less costs for the violent ones is exactly what we need to make them think before doing.?. Instead they get to go to jail to sober up, get free meals, free health and and therapy benefits, free rent and lots of socializing benefits. I’d rather see violence punished much more than stealing from the rich that are covered by insurance way more than any employee is covered if injured, shot or killed. This rich vs the poor (definitely not Robinhood) story seems to be why some talk cheap as if he’s some kind of hero. As for the gun in the face trauma, I get it, but it’s something that can be dealt with a lot more than violent crimes. It’s also a career choice with well known risk. Never deserved but is such a career worth the risk.?. Can’t say this guy is anyone to be impressed by as he could’ve easily used his brain to do some actual good for himself, his family and others close to him. He comes across as a cold narcissist, boarder line sociopath here that chose his career for notoriety reasons without a care for anyone around him…not someone you want around your children. Pretty interesting story from an interesting time though.
Seems he told the truth and did not have any money because when he got out of jail he robbed a bank again and went to jail for another 15 years. Pretty sad.. Wish he did have it and went to enjoy life when he was released from jail in '98 but he went to jail again
Why is this an issue......other than the fact that a gun is used......which is likely to induce trauma in people where the robbery occurs......the money......BIG DEAL......the owners have far too much money anyway. If they paid the tax they should we would have a lot more available for social programs which all people should have.....not just a select few......if they're not paying the taxes they should perhaps this is justified.
human man it’s why no one robs banks there. Come to America or Canada and be all you can be. You can keep the hands. You’ll need them later. We know that
Do any of you realise that you have to actually pay excessive over what something is worth to cover the cost of people like this 🤔 gosh does nobody know how to use their brain! Shocking
Just finished watching Bandit. It's great to see this 30 year old interview online!
