  • During 26-27 of August 2023, hurricane Franklin was forming in the Atlantic basin. This led to unusually calm sea conditions along the south coast of Jamaica. We took this opportunity to paddle around the Portland Ridge peninsula. These images are from our two day trip from Jackson Bay to Portland Cottage covering 22 miles. First day we paddled to Big Half Moon Cay stopping on the for a quick lunch at Portland Cay. The sea was extremely calm and beautiful, ideal for some kayak fishing. The gorgeous sunrise made us quickly forget the sweating hot night spent on the island. After a morning fishing session around Little Half Moon Cay we headed back to Portland Cottage finding our way through the pristine and bustling with life mangrove maze. Tired but filled with amazing memories that will endure long after the adventure is over we pulled into the Portland Cottage fishing beach and rewarded ourselves with cold beers, fried fish and lobster. Kayaking in the sea creates a sense of mindfulness and tranquility that is hard to replicate elsewhere. The act of gliding across the water, with the only sound being your own breath and the gentle lap of waves, induces a state of inner peace. It's a time to reflect, to appreciate the beauty of the world around you, and to find solace in the simplicity of the moment.
