I just want to be the guy hiding behind the orchid.

Ha this made me laugh out loud ty
Just commenting because many people did not seem to grasp the wisdom in the simple answer. There isn't a need to always get rid of your object of attachment or suffer unnecessarily. The young lady loves her sister, and therefore, misses her. Thay says that geographical distance cannot separate two people who are mentally close. Giving time to your loved one matters; the mode of communication does not.
she's holding the mic like a cup of tea
If you're dehydrated, the solution isn't to practice detachment from the idea of water. Good answer.
Thank you-such simplicity to an emotionally complex question. 💝
Oh my god the woman explaining to him speaks in mindfulness. You can feel that she speaks as if the best thing to do is to explain. She is not hurried. She isn´t rushing the questions. Wonderful.
It is not about attachment vs non attachment; it is about realizing why all is flux. The reason is 💛
Thanks a lot to this young lady for the excellent question because I'm in the same situation. Thanks to Venerable Thay for the practical solution, I'll do my best. Evangelina Cortes.
Ok, so why did the lady on the right restate the question the lady on the left had JUST ASKED?
Zealotry, did you see her unnecessary way to hold the mic ? She is far away from enlightenment as much Jupiter is far away from my sink knob in my bathroom
Disrespect! :')
So “just stay in touch”? Not what I was looking fot
What solution did he offer 😳
Summary: There are many solutions. One solution-
Practice non-attachment by practicing attachment. Ask the person questions about your shared interests.
so that's not what he was saying at all. he said to ask about what her sister was doing, and practice that alongside her as her means of feeling close. her sister is at a monastery living a semi-monastic life. he was skillfully using the older sister's attachment to the younger sister, to try to influence the older sister to practice more because that is her sister's interest.
Perfect summary. The solution proposed is exactly what we all instinctively do to maintain connection, i.e. attachment! So disappointing 😞
I think the first answer was a joke, and the second answer was to transform attachment into curiosity, and instead of clinging to a certain outcome regarding the relationship with the sister, learn about her by learning about her interests. That way sister can be sister, and she can still feel close to her from afar.
Thank you
If someone does not love you back, let them go.
