Just got the book shipped to me as I was watching Bernard Stiegler's lecture on it and was finding both the book AND his lecture a bit too much for me to grasp, then BAM, I see Acid Horizon has already done an episode on it. My hike today is going to be so splendid.

i really like Joe Sachs' translations of Aristotle because he avoids the Latinized jargon with its millenium of baggage and returns to the original Greek. He's very sensitive to language.
    For example:
    - 'dunamis' becomes 'potency' instead of 'potentiality'
    - 'energeia' becomes 'being-at-work' instead of ' actuality'
    - 'entelecheia' [a neologism of Arirstotle's which combines 'enteles' (complete, fully grown) and 'hexis' (active state, "to be a certain way by continuing effort of holding on in that condition), while also punning with 'endelecheia' (persistence) using 'telos' (end)] becomes 'being-at-work-staying-itself' instead of 'actuality'. Mark Shiffman, after the original Sachs translation of De Anima translates 'entelecheia' as 'being-fully-itself', to try at cut the wordiness of it.
i wrote all of this cuz you mentioned Aristotelian potentiality like 6 mins in and I wanted to write down a thought.

this is Sach’s Heideggerian influence showing (love Sach’s translations by the way (though I would go even farther than him in some places))

That discussion on the meaning of "milieu" was a bit weird to me. "Milieu" does mean environment. In fact "milieu" was widely used to mean "natural environment" throughout the 19th century. To illustrate, Haeckel's first description of Ökologie used the word "milieu" in French translations. Anarchist Geographer Elisée Reclus did so too. "Environnement" in French was more influenced by the English use of the term "environment" and finally replaced "milieu" somewhere in the middle of the 20th century. "Middle" being just one of the multiple meanings of the polysemic word "milieu". It is fairly common in French, up until now, to say "les milieux naturels" to refer to natural habitats or environments. The translation is not so straightforward I believe.
