I'm Moroccan and I'm proud he chose to play for Spain. Spain adopted him, trained him and invested in him. Morocco is a sht hole without any opportunities where the king and his family have all the wealth and the people are struggling to make a living.
He left Morocco seeking better dignity and ended up pocketing that dignity but also importantly learned how to think and how to talk. How to be a genuine citizen.

I was in Spain for about 5 weeks back in 2016. I’d wander around all parts of various cities, from Barcelona to Sevilla. I’d always find these makeshift futbol fields in the midst of sketchy (by European standards) apartment complexes, with all these great young players. I loved watching them. Once they asked me to join in, then we went to the local bar. I want to go back there.
