Why would people say that?! The only reason Italy in WWII was fascist is your leader. It's like to say "hey you are from Serbia you are evil cuz you don't recognize Kosovo". Just don't listen to them they don't understand what is happening in today's world so they are looking only at past.
Yes. I am german and sometimes there are people from the internet, who call us, austrians and italians fascist. Someone even told me they would want to kill every german and austrian or even italian, who they met or they write that the civilians who died during the firestorm on Dresden or the italian soldiers who already surrendered in Biscari but were executed deserved to die (don't understand me wrong, I know that the nazis did worse, expecially in poland and during the holocaust, but that does not make the things I mentioned right). But they are just some idiotic keybord warriors and I do not think, that all people think like this :)

I like the ending, because it shows Germany is still portrayed as the "evil" place while all of the other axis powers got off free, because nobody really cares about their crimes. But Japan got 2 nukes, so Italy is the real winner. (With Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, cuz they didn´t get shamed and bulgaria got dobrich at the end of the war)
They didn’t really need to join NATO as the USSR used Finland as a neutral country and would have never invaded Finland after that. Also Finland is trying to join NATO so the treaty didn’t set back Finland like it did for Austria.

While the 3rd Reich wanted to take revenge on the Allies for the massive land loss, reparations, and nearly disarmed country. Japan wanted the more resource rich islands and mainland that China, Dutch, and British controlled striking the Chinese in a time of civil war and fragmentation.
