  • 🏳️‍🌈You have heard it said that you cannot be both GAY and CHRISTIAN, but I say to you: phew, I’m glad the people who told you that are not actually in charge of such things!! 🏳️‍🌈
    Most of the time this claim comes down to an erroneous and anachronistic understanding of a letter Paul wrote to the church in Corinth and to his friend, Timothy. In it, Paul names several things he believed to be incompatible with this new way of being human. In that list he identifies specific sex acts (aka, exploitative and transactional) between two men as being not compatible with the Kingdom of God. But that has nothing to do with loving, committed LGBTQ relationships, nor (obviously) does have it anything to do with sexual orientation!
    So yes, of COURSE you can be both gay and Christian!

    Don't confuse people my friend, please see Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Roman's 1:26-27, 1 Timothy 1:10, Jude 1:7, Genesis19 1-38.
    Please seek Jesus and resist this way. He understands its hard but you DONT have to act on these desires, but don't try to tell others it's okay to do, you condemn yourself that way.

    Came here after watching Colby's debate with Sean McDowell and being very impressed with Colby's kindness toward someone he disagrees with. I've fallen somewhere in-between the 2 perspectives and wanted to investigate more. Sad to see Colby's sarcasm, dismissiveness, and defensiveness toward others in the comments here. I expect the other side to be combative - I was hoping to see grace and love expressed by Colby. 😢

As to your disappointment about how I choose to respond (or, NOT respond) to most of the comments here, I can only say this: when you deal with the volume of comments I get, and when 90% of them are vitriolic, classless, unkind, accusations against me and my character... well, it eventually changes how you choose to engage 🤷🏻‍♂️ If people engage me with curiosity and civility and kindness and respect, I will respond in kind ALL day for that. But if they're just here to lob Bible verses at me, or make wild accusations, or attack me/my character, I'm gonna go ahead and shake the dust off my feet and move on. If that communicates to you "lack of grace and love," then I guess I'll just have to live with that (however, I do wonder if you could find any examples where I truly demonstrate lack of charity, or, disrespect, or are cruel to people. I feel like those kinds of comments generally aren't my vibe...? Though maybe some do slip through the crack if I need a snickers or something 🤪)

    Paul is addressing the church. …Let not these things be named among you” Ephesians 5:3.
    He’s not talking to those who don’t know Jesus and haven’t believed on him for salvation. I’ve heard too many testimonies of those living homosexual lifestyles confronted with the gospel of Christ and turning from that lifestyle to follow Jesus. Because Jesus is more important than my sexual orientation. And what he did for me on the cross has more value than my own flesh desires. We want his Kingdom to come and if his design for sex is between a man and a woman in covenant before God to display the wisdom of God than who are we to argue with his ways. I don’t think I can say brother to you because you are twisting scripture to fit a script that is actually more harmful than hopeful to the lgbtqia+ community that is sadly spiraling down a hole of depravity and darkness. If you claim Jesus as Lord, then preach the redemptive love and hope of Jesus for this community. I say this with care and I really hope you hear my heart. I don’t know how you’ve been hurt by the church or those who claim Christ but Christians should be the first to love and embrace those in their sin but then lead them to repentance (as Jesus did). I pray your eyes be enlightened and you see the hope and joy in scripture. What you’re prescribing is somewhat anti gospel. Be very careful. I don’t know why this video popped up on my feed but I believe it was for a reason. Jesus says he leaves the 99 to go for 1. Stay true to the scripture

      I second this! Love one another as Messiah loved us, by teaching sound doctrine in hopes that that one will turn and follow Christ! Amen! Now is our time to love by telling TRUTH! This gentleman has indeed twisted scripture- but we fight not against him - but rather against the principalities of darkness! I love this man- not for his confusion in doctrine- but because it’s what I choose to do! I love him and pray that GOD most high- changes his misguided perception into TRUE Wisdom and Truth❤. I pray clarity over his mind and pray for courage and strength when the heart of stone has become flesh again! I pray healing over this man, for God Most High knows all about him❤! I pray for His peace and His understanding to be made manifest in his life ❤! I pray a hedge of protection against these principalities of darkness that would think to destroy him❤!     Some people's treatment of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 focuses on the Greek words malakoi and arsenokoitai (the latter of which also appears in plural form in 1 Timothy 1:10), whom Paul says will not inherit the Kingdom of God. People argue that these words do not refer to monogamous same-sex relationships or “homosexuals” as some modern translations render the words. Instead, malakoi is ambiguous and could just mean “weak” or “soft” while arsenokoitai refers to some kind of sexual exploitation or pederasty (sex with post-pubescent children). But if that’s the case then why doesn’t Paul just use the Greek word for pederasty (or paiderastes)?
    Keep in mind that before he condemns the malakoi and arsenokoitai for their persistence in sin, Paul condemns idolaters and adulterers and then he condemns thieves and greedy people. Adultery and idolatry are often associated in the Bible and thievery and greed certainly go together. This makes it likely that arsenokoitai goes hand-in-hand with malakoi. The fact that arsenokoitai matches the Greek words in the Septuagint’s translation of Leviticus 20:13 is unmistakable. The word breaks down to “arseno” (or “male”) and koite (or “bed”) and literally means “man-bedder.”
    Paul is saying that at one point some Corinthians practiced the active and passive roles in same-sex behavior but, as verse 11 says, “this is what some of you *used to be.* But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” Just because certain people once engaged in same-sex behavior that is no barrier to them being sanctified by the grace of God. God loves them and us and wants everyone to understand their true identities not as being “gay” or “straight,” but as being sons and daughters of the Most High.

      The snake said, "did God say you can't eat from any tree?", presenting God as unfair and harsh. God made Eve with a need for food, yet the snake insinuates that she's not allowed to eat anything.
      Same way, God who said "it's not good to be alone" made some people with a need for the same secs, but some Christians present God as unfair and harsh, arbitrarily forbidding them from meeting their need.

    Ok, so Paul also mentions in that 1 Corinthians 6:9 passage “No adulterers shall enter the kingdom of heaven” well, using your logic, as long as the cheater is in love with and committed to the person they are cheating with, they are fine. Repent, seek REAL Christian counseling for your attraction to men, ask Jesus to be your Savior AND Lord and he will help you.

      he is not attracted to men. he has already asked Jesus to be his lord and saviour. God has already helped him.
      what he's getting at is that in paul's day, many men even straight men married to women would have secs with male prostitoots and raip enslaved boys because it gave them a sense of dominating and denigrating their victims. such behaviour was justifiably incompatible with life in God's kingdom.
      it had no similarity to a committed relationship between to men which can be loving and therefore obedient to God, and even be between two faithful believers.

      Roman's 1:26-27
      For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
      Don't try to twist Paul's words to suit your own desires- just repent and accept Jesus and turn from your sins - he understands you have the desire but you dont have to act on it - just stay single then, He knows its hard for you!

      You’re almost right, sure a man can love many other men, but that love cannot be lustful, it’s the same love that God tells us to give to everyone. Neighborly and brotherly love is good, but Eros love is meant only from man to woman.
      Also your statement about the Laws of Leviticus being no longer applicable is somewhat true, but not in this instance. Mark 15:7 - 23 Jesus let’s us know that laws from Leviticus about what we eat, like pork, is not what makes us unclean in Gods eyes any longer, but it is what comes out of our heart, Including sexual immorality, meaning that even if not acted upon, the desire of sexually loving a man is lust.     The word homosexuality wasn't even in the Bible until 1946. It is a mistranslation. Even the Bible scholar who was responsible for the mistranslation, said he made a mistake there. By then, it was too late because many more new translations had taken their cue from this original mistranslation.

    The beautiful thing about Biblical text is that we should be following it word for word. All Scripture is God-breathed. Our “opinion” on the text holds no water. It’s not for us to decide “what Jesus actually meant” when he said things. Or what God “actually means” when he says things in his word. You’re allowed to have your interpretations. However, to teach those things on a platform for thousands of people to hear is wrong. Because if there’s any chance you’re wrong on your interpretation, it means you are leading people astray in the name of Christ. And that is detrimental to people and their spiritual walk, or worse, their salvation. I’m not a scholar, and im not saying I have any more knowledge on the subject than you do. But adding your opinion onto Biblical text and presenting it as gospel is wrong, through and through. And I would suggest that you do not continue to do this.

    In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Paul lists some sinful lifestyles that give evidence that a person is not saved: “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men . . . will inherit the kingdom of God.” In other words, a practicing, unrepentant idolater, adulterer, or homosexual is fooling himself if he thinks he is going to heaven. Christians are saved from such sins.
    There are some interpreters today who object to lumping homosexuals in with the other sinners listed in this passage. The wording “men who have sex with men” is unclear, they say, and should not be construed as a condemnation of *all* same-sex activity. In an attempt to make *homosexual behavior* compatible with Christianity, they attempt to redefine the Greek word.
    The phrase “men who have sex with men” (translated “homosexuals” in the NASB) is a translation of the Greek word *arsenokoitai.* Those who object to this translation say that arsenokoitai does not refer to all homosexual relationships but only to those involving abuse, coercion, or unfaithfulness. They say the word does not refer to “loving, faithful” same-sex relationships.
    Arsenokoitai is a compound word: arseno is the word for “a male,” and koitai is the word for “mat” or “bed.” Put the two halves together, and the word means “a male bed”-that is, a person who makes use of a “male-only bed” or a “bed for males.” And, truthfully, that’s all the information we need to understand the intent of 1 Corinthians 6:9.
    As in English, the Greek word for “bed” can have both sexual and non-sexual meanings. The statement “I bought a new bed” has no sexual connotation; however, “I went to bed with her” does. In the context of 1 Corinthians 6:9, koitai connotes an illicit sexual connotation-the apostle is clearly speaking of “wrongdoers” here. The conclusion is that the word arsenokoitai refers to homosexuals-men who are in bed with other men, engaging in same-gender sexual activity.
    It is interesting to note that arsenokoitai was not a common word in the Greek language to refer to homosexuality. Some have even claimed that the apostle Paul invented the word. This is not the case. In the *Septuagint Greek translation* of the two verses in the Mosaic Law that refer to homosexuality both contain forms of arseno and koitai (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13). This likely indicates that Paul had Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 in mind when he wrote 1 Corinthians 6:9, making it abundantly clear what Paul meant by the word arsenokoitai.
    The notion that *some* homosexual relationships are accepted is not even hinted at in this passage. The men’s commitment level or the presence of “love” is not addressed. The idea that the condemned same-sex activity is linked to economic exploitation or abuse is also a forced reading with no textual basis.
    Paul’s reference to “homosexuals,” together with a reference to “effeminate” men in the same verse (in the NASB), effectively covers both active and passive homosexual behavior. God’s Word is not open to personal interpretation in this matter. Homosexuality is wrong; it always has been, and it always will be.
    Just two verses later, 1 Corinthians 6:11 says, “And that is what some of you *were.* But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (emphasis added). This statement negates the idea of “homosexual Christianity” being acceptable to God. Paul tells the Corinthian believers that practices such as homosexuality were evidences of their former life before Christ. Now they have been *born again,* and they have a new nature and new desires. The old nature remains, and the temptations continue, but child of God has been called to fight against sin, not live in it any longer. By the life-changing grace of God, the Corinthians’ new life stands in opposition to the way they used to live.

But part of the work of interpreting any text (let alone ancient texts like the Bible) involves a kind of conjecture about the authors intent. You string together various things they write, combine with what you know about the culture and the context, and do your best to ascertain intent.

    The unrighteous is refering to unbelievers. They are named after their sins. A believer has had their sins paid for on the cross and God remembers them no more.
    Therefore Paul says such were some of you. Why? Because you stopped doing those things? What if you covet? What if you steal something?
    What if you look lustfully at a woman (adultery in the heart)? Are you suddenly unsaved? No!
    Paul says "but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."
    It's thanks to Jesus that we are justified and declared righteous, not ourselves.
    Galatians 2:21 (KJV) "I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain."
    Romans 4:4-6 (KJV) "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
    But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
    Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,"
    If 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ment we had to physically stop doing those sins, then it would mean salvation was of works.
    Believing on Jesus and stop sinning.
    That's works-salvation.
    Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    Not of works, lest any man should boast."
    Another proof that not all Corinthians stopped doing those sins, but were still saved is found just one chapter earlier.
    1 Corinthians 5:1-5 (KJV) "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
    And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
    For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,
    In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

    Does Paul contradict himself when he says "such were some of you", when one chapter earlier he mentions someone who did such a thing but apparently was still saved?
    No.
    There is consequences for fornication, adultery, homosexuality etc.
    We can reap what we sow in the body and lose rewards in Heaven, but our spirit is still saved.
    2 Corinthians 5:10 (KJV) "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."
    1 Corinthians 5:5 (KJV) "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."

    In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

    1 Corinthians 3:13-15 (KJV) "Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
    If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
    If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
    Although many take 1 Corinthians out of context, that is still not an excuse to defend sins such as fornication and homosexuality.
    Homosexuality is an abomination, and shame on you for defending that wickedness.
    We should call it out, not because of works-salvation, but because Christians are called to be seperate from the world and to not indulge in the lusts of the flesh.

      We are saved by placing our faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins.
      It says so right in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, which is the ONLY Gospel.

      Jesus taught the law to Jews who were under the law.
      We are told in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 how we are saved, and baptism in water is not required, and if it were so than I suppose we would have no other recourse than to believe that the shed Holy Blood of Christ Jesus was not sufficient to save us!
      I suppose you believe that the sins you do not commit and the so called good you do help determine if a person is saved or not saved or kept saved.

      Yet, Peter who preached on the Day of Pentecost told us how to be saved. This was after Christ had ascended. When Peter preached it wasn't under the Law.
      In Colossians Paul tells us that in Baptism is where God "having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead." Notice a few things in this passage.
      1: Buried with Him (Christ) in baptism. This is not a spiritual baptism it is water.
      2: We were raised with Him (Christ)
      3: Faith in the working of God
      These points plainly state if you are not water baptized then God has not done His saving work on you or anyone else.
      Here is something else. Christ didn't go to the Jews only His entire ministry. Approximately 6 months from the start He went to the Samaritans. Were they Jews?

      The Gospel we read in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 came directly from Jesus who revealed His Gospel to Paul as we read in Galatians 1:11-12 which reads,
      11 But I certify you, brethren, that the Gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
      12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
      Don’t neglect the Gospel that is the Gospel because of the shed Holy Blood of Christ Jesus!
      Jesus didn’t go to the cross so we could work our way to heaven!

    This passage condemns, among other things fornicators. Two people of the same sex cannot by definition, be married and thus become fornicators if engaging in sexual acts. Homosexuals can be in communion with Gods word and His Church if they are not actively living that lifestyle, same as with alcoholics, porn addicts, etc. Paul didn’t have to say homosexual because it’s understood to be fornication if actively engaged. False teaching here, again.

    How are you going to tell us what it is he "meant" did he personally tell you? Obviously not. So claiming such things is manipulating the word into saying what you want it to say.

      The meaning of the word you highlighted primarily related to prostitoots. In their culture it was acceptable for a married man to use a prostitoot which differed from Jewish mores (an Paul was a Jew). In any case, two men (or two women) in a faithful loving relationship are not acting immorally so it's a non-issue.

      @@mrcolbymartin this verse is not massively misunderstood though, in light of other key verses on the Bible we can see that this verse is not really clobbered. Of course, Paul IS directing some of this at those practicing in male prostitution, but also homosexuality in general. I'm not saying you can't come to God as a homosexual, but I am saying that the Bible does make it clear that it is sinful. There is also no scripture that would support this interpretation. I'm glad that you have this platform, but use it to support teachings evident through scripture and supported by other scripture. If you try and say one thing in the Bible is wrong then you admit that God's word fallible. I won't strong arm, but I urge you to debate with yourself on this matter with God, and really think about this verse.

    Genesis says: God created them male and female. Not male and male or female and female. And God gave a command : Multiply and fill the earth.
    This is God’s first command to all creatures, humans or animals and whoever decides to be gay ( male or female) violates and disobeys God’s command intentionally.
    And God clearly says that whoever disobeys his command whichever that might be will not inherit the kingdom of God.
    So NO NO NO - you CAN’T be gay and Christian at the same time.

      Someone attracted to the same secs who hears and accepts the gospel is a gay Christian. Likewise, a child raised in the faith who reaches adolescence to find themselves attracted to the same secs is a gay Christian. So YES you CAN be both.
      "fill the earth" was God's blessing to all life which God amply fulfilled. A few who fail to reproduce for any of a range of reasons poses no threat to God fulfilling his blessing. Insisting that everyone should reproduce regardless of consequences turns Christianity into a fertility cult.

      negative references to males having secs with males in the bible are about specific issues: attempted raip Gen 19, violating cultural norms Lev 18/20, indecent behaviour Rom 1, unknown but probably secs abbuse 1 Cor 6/1 Tim 1. Apart from Lev, none of them even describe homoxesuality.

      You mean, what AM I doing? I think it’s pretty clear: my work demonstrates that the church has misunderstood and/or misused to the Bible to justify discrimination against gay people. Contrary to what many people still think, the Bible does not condemn homosexuality , nor does it establish a divine demand or expectation that LGBTQ people must be something other than who they are and/or live alone forever. It’s not about “justifying” anything, it’s about restoring the dignity and humanity of people while also illuminating what the Bible does and does not say on the topic.

    I just don’t understand why you explain the text as if it is right but don’t hold to it as authoritative. I’ve watched a couple conversations and plenty of times I heard “I don’t know”. How do you know you are right?
    Respectfully to me it seems as if your view or explanation of scripture is like a teenager who’s parents let them do anything because the parents do not want to make their child feel bad (even though) the things that the teen may be doing is unhealthy. It’s kind of purely based on feelings.
    But truly I just want to understand the thought process

My basic premise with UnClobber is this: these verses have been misused and misunderstood to justify discrimination against LGBTQ people. When better understood, the clobber passages do not say what we've been told they say. Now, as to the authority of the Bible, that's a different (albeit, as you point out, related) matter. It also does not condone hateful acts towards ppl because of sin. To say the truth such as All who practice sin will not inherit the kingdom of God is literally telling them what the scriptures that we adhered to for thousands of years say to us. Listen I totally understand I hate to be called out for my lying or drunkenness whatever the sin may be. But if it’s the truth then youre sending a lot of ppl to be in front of Jesus for him to say “away from me I never knew you” because you think a desire that lives no longer than a human life span is more important than Gods will. I hope this helps your understanding and wanting an explaination of what the word ORIGINALLY SAID. How it was originally written. Arsenokoita was a new word Paul used in the original writings of the bible. We don’t know of any other instances of the word until Paul coins the word in 1 Corinthians 6 & 1 Timothy 1. It’s a compound word: “arsen” means man & “koite” or “koitas” or “koitai”-depending on a verb or a noun-means bed or- lying side by side. 2 be clear, the “malakoi” & “arsenokoitai” relationship had nothing 2 do with 2 men living in a committed same gender relationship. Instead, that relationship had everything 2 do with sexual abuse of a heterosexual male against another male, usually a much younger male. This was a big problem in those times. Historically, it is documented, even parents sold their young boys to try and give them a chance of a better life. According 2 Paul, that abusive behavior needed 2 stop. It wad a culture that encouraged boys 2 resort 2 sexual slavery or temple prostitution in order to survive. For Paul, that cultural change was happening within the church. He wanted the church 2 be a place where people stopped abusing one another & started caring for one another. Paul joins these 2 words together into a neologism, a new word (as we do in saying database or software), and so he condemns in 1Corinthians and 1Timothy what was condemned in Leviticus. In light of this interpretation of the meaning of arsenokoitai. Responsible Christians would join Paul in condemning anyone who uses children for sex, just as we would join anyone else in condemning the threatened gang rape in Sodom or the behavior of the sex-crazed priests & priestesses in Rome. So, this passage says, nothing about homosexuality as we understand it today. Paul joins these 2 words together into a neologism, a new word (as we do in saying database or software), and so he condemns in 1Corinthians and 1Timothy what was condemned in Leviticus. This interpretation of the meaning of arsenokoitai, White concludes with an emotional appeal. Paul in condemning anyone who uses children for sex, just as we would. Paul is condemning " married men who hired young boys (malakois) for sexual pleasure.

      @@joshuahorne8220 The acual word homosexual first appeared in a German bible in 1983. Before that it appeared in 2 other versions in 1946. In Martin Luther’s original German translation from 1534 it uses the word knabenschander. Knaben is boy, schander is molester. This word “boy molesters” for the most part carried through the next several centuries & translations. Knabenschander is also in 1 Timothy 1:10. But he original was 2 Greek words Paul combined "arsenokoitai." So you see, people have gotten lost in translation. It's true, and anyone if they want to spend the time can see for themselves. But the problem is people are so busy condemning others, and focusing on others sins, rather than actually studding God's original words. I'm a heterosexual female with 4 kids. I have no reason to fight this fight other than, helping people see who aviously love Jesus like yourself, that the focus on this subject, one that has been mitranslated through time, only causes division. That's not what God wants. He wants us united. It's clear that the changing of the word over time, was to something the devil used to divide us. I say all of this to you in love and with respect to your avious passion for Jesus.

    Sure, your free to believe what you want but don't try and twist what Paul was saying. And don't be guilty of leading youth astray. The bible warns of consequences of what would happen if you lead young people astray. Youth are watching you

      Well… no.. repent actually means “to change your mind,” and men-sleeping-with-men is not always (as you put it) “sinful.” But thanks for chiming in!
