This makes me kinda sad when you think about it. That plot of land was someones house and it had someones memory of it growing up as a child. Someone called it home and worked hard to keep it just for it to vanish like that. Someone had to plan and build that, put effort, money and time into it. Something that we call home, our safe space and somewhere where we can have full privacy, somewhere away from others, something that has value to us just ripped to peices without a second thought about it just to be an empty bit of land, unused by anyone.

My uncle passed away suddenly a couple of months ago. When my aunt was looking for a funeral home, she came across one and decided to look at the google map photos to see if she liked it. My Uncle who passed, was a landscaper, and he was in the photo of the funeral home tending to the bushes.

This makes me sad, there’s a song in the show Rent called without you. In the song there’s a line that says. “The grass grows, without you.” It’s so sad to realize life goes on and we’re all here for a blip in time. Our lives are blinks of an eye. Remember to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Sit them down and be serious about your feelings. I don’t think people really understand how powerful love is and how much it can change a persons life just knowing their valued and loved by somebody. Love ❤️

Just the other day I went to my childhood home for the first time in nearly a decade since the house went into foreclosure during my dad dying of leukemia. The new owners took good care of it, barely anything changed, and our old mailbox still sits there with my mom and dad's name on it. Happy tears were shed.

My daddy was on Google maps for years. They don’t change it often in more rural communities. He died of cancer in 2017 and I think it was taken in 2013. They finally updated it. It looks different than the house I grew up in. Luckily I saved the picture of him. He didn’t even see the car. He was just taking care of the yard, as he loved to do. RIP Daddy. Everytime i look at our old house on google maps standing and how it looked in 2013 i remember how we had our grill stolen and how we joke about it now and how silly that is to have a grill stolen off of our porch, i remember the bee hive on the porch too that we had to dodge while going to school, it brings back a lot of good and bad memories and how it brought such a connection between me and my family
My bf googled his old house in Colombia and the adoption center before he got adopted by his foster parents in America and that was the first time I saw him cry because nothing had changed he kept showing me on the map all the places he used to go to it was so sad and cute
My family was forced to sell my childhood home because we were bankrupt after my dad was sent to prison. I always had dreams of buying my childhood back someday but after googling the house just now, I realised the people who bought it demolished it..
I’m so sorry to hear that 😢 I think of my childhood home sometimes too. My mom got married and moved far and I stood with my dad in a different city from there on. I still drive by that house since it is only one city over from time to time. Luckily the people that bought the house have upgraded it, painted it, nice landscaping, new floors (I peaked in while trick or treating one Halloween). I was honestly at my happiest when I was in that house. At least I know a good family is taking care of it and upkeeping it.
I also miss the garden next to my house. It's where I spent my childhood there, and where I felt most at ease, but it's not my family's property so later the owner distroyed that beautiful garden into a car wash😔
My grandmother has been progressively losing her memories over the last 7 years since my uncle passed away. She started deteriorating quickly both physically and mentally after the funeral. She's wheelchair bound now. I was on google maps one day "walking" down the street view for funsies. I started at my house and as I get to her house I see her outside in her robe taking my uncles dog out to pee. It made me burst into tears immediately seeing her so full of life. Her hair full and warm brown, the little yappy dog Cody who had passed years before my uncle did, just to see her on her feet again even though I know it was a 10 year old image. It felt like I was walking up to the scene for real. I'm gonna miss her so much when she's gone and cherish the gift the little google street car didn't even know they were giving me. Sometimes I think about the houses I lived in growing up, so I visit them through maps. What I didn’t know is that if I looked into the yard of one from a certain spot, I could see me and two of my brothers playing… I kinda just sat there and stared for a solid five, ten minutes. They’re still alive and well, I see them at least once a week, but to see us again 10, maybe 11 years ago was magic.
The new owners of my old house kept the apple tree my parents planted when I was born and our giant lilac bushes, as well as all the decorative shrubs, and even put a cute little picnic table in the yard. @@Chawkes420 after my great-grandfather died, my great-grandmother fell into dementia. Their money and land split among their nine children and one of my many grand-uncles inherited the house. This was way before I was born, likely in the 90s, when he decided he didn’t want to live there, nor was it worth any sentimental value for him to keep, so he sold it to get more money out of his inheritance. Whoever bought it, maybe a bank, demolished the house, cut it up into four different pieces, and now different people live in house built on the land’s edges with most of it being empty space. Side note: I plan to one day rebuild the house. My mom grew up there with her cousins and grandparents and she remembers the whole layout. Hi friend, commenting because you mentioned you don’t have anyone to talk to about these feelings and it sounds like you might be bottling them up. It may feel like you need to be the strong one now, or that you can’t show sorrow or find anyone who can relate, but I hope you’re able to find someone to talk to about this you feel comfortable with because it’s really not healthy to bottle these feelings up.

You die three times. Once when you die, twice when the person that remembers you dies, thrice when the last person ever sees your picture or learns about you dies. Then it’s as if you were never here. This reel does a good job of showing a bit of that.
In that case, these folks should be remembered for a while, now that we’ve all seen them.

It's disturbing to think about things like this. Take a random person in your memories that you don't know the name of and didn't actually meet like some person you saw at the grocery store. Now imagine how their life is now or if they even are alive. Did they survive COVID, did they graduate college , did someone recently die in their family. You'll never know the answer to any of those questions. It's unlikely you'll ever see their face again. You can only wish them the best.

It’s chilling to see how quickly things change in the world, little over 10 years and you can’t even tell there was a house with a family and friends living there, probably had memorable parties, who knows the conversations. Just gone, can’t ever go back to reminisce.

Yeah. Something or other seems to have had this family displaced. Maybe they had a bad weather event that the house was too weak to withstand. Hopefully they've been able to rebuild their life elsewhere

The roof caved in and they probably didnt have the money or insurance to fix it, and had to go. This is the saddest thing i have seen in a long time. 🥺

My great grandma (whom I lived with) died in 2020, we were forced to sell her home cause she - like many others in USA 2008 - took out a reverse mortgage. When that time came to pack up and move, I sobbed. I forced myself to remember every detail of that home, I relieved memories of my childhood. Absolutely insane that it's just gone now. Anyone passing by wouldn't even know that there was a house there, or even any of the memories that were made there. It's gone now, but somebody lived there once, and it used to be theirs.
I think about that if I see old structures. For example we have a park where you can see an old bridge and further down stairs to a house covered in leaves and trees growing up around it

My grandpa passed away last year 3 days after my 18 birthday, he had cancer and it was a hard year were we would see him struggling lifting things or trying to breathe right but still doing little details like covering us with his clothes if we were cold or sleepy, giving us fruit smoothies and inviting us to eat desserts that he made.
My mom was sending the location of the house to my aunt and when she looked the pictures she could se my grandpa working, he was a mechanic, in the picture he is healthy, he is busy, he is my grandpa... it's hard bc we all have to deal with his loss, I can't talk with anyone about this without feeling selfish and when I'm with my friends I feel like I shouldn't be ruining the day with my things.
Maybe my grandpa wasn't the best man in the earth but he was a good and present grandpa, father, friend and neighbor, the day of his funeral I cried a lot bc of him and bc of the amount of people who went that day, it really showed me how good of a person he was, not only with his family but with the rest of the world.
Grief is real and you can’t be expected to be over the loss of a loved one immediately. It’s a process and it can hit you at weird times even years later. Finding a grief counselor to talk to can also really help. Wishing you all the best.
@@WistfulWalrus Thank you a lot I know it's not healthy but we are struggling with a lot of things this days, I have a lot in my head with my family having some problems so I just don't want my mom to feel even worse and I'm waiting for the water to be clear again so I can talk about all this things, I really hope that moment comes soon, sadly life sometimes isn't easy but I know it's going to be better.
