In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I was raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. My heart went cold when I saw you looking for hostel accom in the Durban CBD and where exactly!!!! So glad your intuition kicked in. Thats not the place to be. Beachfront and secure parking fine, just not in the city.
I live in Durban. Backpackers options, B&B's and campsites just north and south of the city. Also inland in the Hillcrest area is very nice. Plenty of affordable accom available if you are moving down the south coast as well in the smaller seaside towns. Just be extra careful of the CBD areas.

Oh my, Durban! Been there, at the same street along that beach. Been at U'Shaka Zulu Water Ressort too, whole day long. 't is some fond memories I 've collected in South Africa.

It's the black people who only get near the water in huge groups coz most can't swim. Also most don't have individual transportation so they arrive by the busloads.
