I wanted you to know that I just rebuilt my LBZ t-case with a Merchant Automotive pump and new seals. I watched quite a lot of videos on the subject but yours was the best of them. The lighting, the relaxed methodical pace, the detailed explanation all made your tutorial the most useful. You’re the only builder who detailed the orientation of the rear output shaft seal! I followed your instructions carefully and the project turned out great. Glad I did it too. My tail piece had some pump rub that would eventually have worn through. Installed a t-case brace from PPE too. I’ll be subscribing to your channel. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Sincere thanks for taking the time to generously share your knowledge, as well as the advice tips with all of us DIY'ers out here. And yes Sir, God Bless you, and may our Lord Bless our Country once again...we could sure use a lot more of his moral guidance these days:>) 🇺🇸
I’m doing the same thing rebuilding a np263hd and the planetary failed on mine. The snap ring for the ring gear was off how I have no idea. It no longer has tension to it and the gear worked it’s way forward some. A few teeth damaged not horrible. I noticed watching yours I didn’t see the snap ring at 7:52. Maybe just the video.
hi there,do you think it is posible to just reseal the tail cover without taking the hole transfer case off the tranny? i apreciate your answer,i am going to start working on my 2005 chevy silverado 2500 and i liked your video, thank you,god bless you
@robertwelch7748 It might be possible, although I've never tried it. You have to be able to release the output bearing from the case and its on top where you can't really see it to get at it...
HEY SMITHIE! MY 1500 4L60E IS DOING GREAT! My TC just went out on my 2001 2500 hd with the 6 liter. Lost everything but park. Hoping its either pump or chain. But im getting under it tomorrow.
Love your content buddy, in collage taking heavy duty transport technician in Dawson creek British Columbia Canada, you have definitely picked up a wrench or 2👍 thnks buddy😊
Quick question. Can you put that reluctor wheel on backwards? Just rebuilt one and now the Speedo isn’t working. Hoping I just damaged the sensor. Your videos were a ton of help.
When installing the encoder motor, does it have to be in a certain position ei: 2Hi 4Hi or 4Lo and what also what gear should transfer case be in. Reason asking is I broke down and a garage removed front driveshaft and encoder motor so I could get home and they shifted transfer case into 2Hi manually with a wrench. Truck was in 4Hi but felt like 4Lo and wouldn’t go back to 2Hi
@@IrocinZ Thanks for the quick reply, transfer case is in 2Hi now but not sure of encoder motor. Could I plug the encoder motor and try switches without it being installed on transfer case.
Smitty, I have some parts that are different than to 263 HD that you rebuilt. When you pulled the spring for the shift forks, out of the bag there was a small clip inside of it. I also have that but do not remember where it came from, any ideas where it goes? Also should the chain gears line up or will they be at a slight angle?
Send me a pic of the clip to my email at irocinz@gmail.com. I'm sure if I seen it, I'd recognize it. And yes the gears will not be inline with the case off. They will line up when you assemble the case and get your output bearing in the snap ring.
Hey thanks for this mime blew up and I took it apart and it took over a month to get everything I'm a full time mechanic I came back to it today and had no idea how any of it went together this video helped ill be installing it tomorrow hope everything is correct
Well maybe you can help me I have 4 high and 2 wheel drive but it doesn't want to go into 4 low got any ideas I have pulled it back apart and checked everything as far as I can tell it's all correct

Hey, thanks for the vid. We bought a transfer case from an outfit on maryland and for the life of us we can NOT get the new encoder mortor to line up and bolt to the case let alone shift. Any help would be appreciated. We tried on every gear...2, 4 high and 4 low. It appears the shifter stud is not on line or cloked correctly. Is that possible? Thanks.
Anything is possible. Main thing is to make sure the encoder is correct for the transfer case. Sometimes you might have to rotate the shaft a little to get the encoder to set down on there. Whatever you do, don't force it...
@@IrocinZ thanks for the reply... We actually have 3, yes3 encoder motors, two are brand new and one is the original. We did try what you suggested a day or 2 ago but it didn't work. The only way we got it to fit was when the transfer case was in 4 high and the encoder motor was in 2. But, it did not shift out of 4 wheel and of course did not work at all really. The new motors have a shipping alignment plug sort of thing to ensure the new moter is clocked correctly....2 wheel drive.
@CS I would then try rotating by hand and see if it goes in that way. If so and the alignment is still off, pull the tcase apart and make sure internals are correct and nothing broken...
My tcase is leaking from the seal on the short shaft that the electric 4wd actuator sits on and turns to hi,lo and 2wd, can that seal be replaced with out splitting the tcase?

@@IrocinZdoes the output bearing snap ring sit in that top groove when its on the bearing or can it sit when its on the bearing on the ledge on the bottom i would like to send u a pic if your confused to what i mean
@Adam Strickland The case halves are different between the 246 and the 261-263 for the sole reason the 246 has three speed sensors whereas the 263hd only has 1. The rear case half is also different between the XHD and the HD, the Allison and the 4L80e. Hope this helps
@@IrocinZ Yep, and one goes inside the planetary and the input (sun) gear goes on top of it. And one goes under the steel tabbed washer/end plate and snap ring, or on top of the sun gear like you said. Point being is that the other one farther inside is just as important. The GM parts counter diagrams in use today say 2 required. And that is why the 2 groove channels go all the way through the inside walls of the planetary cage to the bottom. I just disassembled one the was repaired by a tranny shop and they used smaller one on top of the sun gear and it broke apart into pieces in less than 1 year. The one tabbed correct one under the sun gear broke into bigger section pieces too. The skinnier one for the top was also had a bigger inside opening. So rattled around at times vibrating and such. It had a howl in mostly in 1st and and lightly in 2nd gear with normal acceration and quieted as the speed increased. No noise when in 4WD though.
