Thank you for the video. Interesting lens. I just watched another video of a fellow who made a cage for the B4 lens. The cage allows the camera and lens to separate quick and easy and it looks really nicely built. Anyway - I found your video while researching c mount lenses for my M4/3 camera. The lenses available for the M4/3 camera just haven't done all I hoped as far as zoom capability so finding your video was encouraging. I enjoy doing close up shots of really small objects like flowers and ants. I hoped the B4 lens would be good for that, but you said they weren't really made for that - so onward I go in my search for a quantum zoom lens for my M4/3 camera. For about a year I shot using a little consumer grade HF R400. That's the kind of zoom and close up shooting I want to match using the M4/3. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for sharing this Paul. I've always been curious to see if it was possible to use B4's in modern applications, but am only now researching it. Curious, how do you power the servo function of the lens? Or are you operating zoom manually?
+David Kelly Yes it is very possible to use B4 lenses on modern applications. For this video I only used the lens manually. It is actually fairly easy to power the lens. You can get the correct plug off Ebay or Amazon and then connect it to a 12v battery. There are several smaller portable 12v batteries that you can find. On the cheap end you can power the lens for around $40. There is a complete kit out there made by Fotodiox that comes with adapter plus, rechargeable battery and a small case to keep everything in.
Paul I like your review of the B4 type lens. I've tried to use my Fujinon tv z 10-120 lens on my GH4 and I had "ghosting" "aberations" or distortion whatever you wish to call it. I used many different f stops and zoom settings. I agree the lens could be very sharp. Is this something in post I can get rid of? I'm using the B4 -mft adapter to fit my gh4. Help?
I have heard that there is some type of aberration adjustment that can be made in post with Premiere Pro and with a plug-in on FCPX. I personally haven't used it so wouldn't be able to give you any advice on it.
Hello i just got a Fujinon s12x7.5brm-24 Professional Camera TV Zoom Lens 1:1.4/7.5-90mm. Can you tell me what adapter I will need to fit this on my Canon 5D Mark II.. Please help thanks
+A-Cee Films This would be a good adapter for you. www.ebay.com/itm/B4-2-3-CANON-FUJINON-lens-To-Canon-EOS-M-EF-M-mount-Mirrorless-Camera-Adapter-/151277059663?hash=item2338d0be4f:g:LEMAAOxyBvZTSMwz You will get vignetting when using a B4 lens on a Canon 5D camera. The only way to avoid this is if you use an adapter that has built in optics to enlarge the image but those go un in price quickly. The least expensive B4 to EOS adapter with built in optics is made by MTF Systems.
Hello, I have a fujinon XT17x4.5BRM-K14 lens with 1/3 "mount, can it be connected to a Panasonic lumix gh5 micro 4/3 there is a Bayonet 1/3" adapter to micro 4/3?
why do people keep getting lenses that aren't designed for their camera? such as these lenses, and c-mount lenses. Maybe because its cheaper (but these people usually get a ton of them, costing the same or more than buying a new lens that would be a good "fit" for the camera). Or because they like collecting them ("ooh its vintage"). I just don't understand. I was so close to jumping on the bandwagon, but realized that the image is crap compares to what i ended up getting (sigma 18-35 f1.8).
I understand your complain but don't knock these B4 lenses or c-mount lenses until you have tried them. true they do not have the modern features like image stabilization but they can still produce very desirable results. Here is a sample clip of when I was playing around with my Canon J16axB4 B4 lens at a shoe store ruclips.net/video/rllEyyzu9Bw/видео.html I had the aperture set at f/1.8 and the ISO at 320 and it gave a very sharp image. I use the Canon B4 lens quite a bit when I need a fast lens with a good zoom range.
What an awesome video! Everything I needed to know about these. Thanks

@A-Cee-Films did it work without vignetting on your 5dMarkII? you have some videos already?

hey there - would like to know the name of the B4 to m4/3 adaptor you used. I need to find a good adaptor for the GH4. Thanks so much
+Richard Davies Th brand of adapter I used in this video is by Pixco. It sells on Amazon and Ebay for around $80. I hope this helps you out.
What aperture was the test at?

Is it normal I get the image blur when wide open ?
B4 lenses do better when stopped down to at least f/3.5
