I think you would like their Cadaver/Revadac too, as the name suggests, it's two songs in one, and one is played backward, one forward (and they can do it live too).
Or Angreifer (live, more focus on the violin), 虚妄の恋人, Kizasi, Knight of Sword...

    • @Gideon_the_Seeker
      @Gideon_the_Seeker 4 года назад +6

I second this. "Cadaver/Revadac" is them turning it up to J.S. Bach level. The professionally-filmed live is great, but in this case it is so worth seeing what they did for their official MV--alternating the gold and blue scenes, out of sync with the music at times to represent the two different perspectives in the song.

Almost all their songs are composed by the lead guitarist (Shiren) - the guy growling on the right. He was trained in classical piano from the early age.
-- just to add some color: The band is a project band. As others have said. The members come from all different bands. The genesis is that Shiren and Fuki (lead v) are friends. They like video games which is based on the Tohoue project which is a niche fantasy video game. They decided to form a band to make songs based on the stories and for games. So, they gathered friends that like games and U-M was a result. They've been at it for over 10 years. So, if you read the lyrics, you will notice the songs are about things such as: tragic death, battles, falling flower petals, gods, sin, seasons, ideal love and yearnings, etc. You get the idea. Their songs are very melodic with beautiful guitar works. Fuki is probably the best metals singer from Japan.

I'm always glad to see Unlucky Morpheus getting some love. They are an amazingly talented band and are far too undiscovered. Tenge Fuyuki (main vocalist and co-founder), better known as Fuki, is a rock goddess. Fuki is the vocalist for Lightbringer, Unlucky Morpheus, Dragon Guardian, Doll$Boxx and Fuki Commune--plus she has collaborated with many other artists and bands as a guest vocalist. Jill is a gifted, classically-trained violinist and she has her own youtube channel. The growl vocals on this track are from Yukimura (Yuki), the guitarist and co-founder.

I've started really, REALLY enjoying listening to music in languages I don't understand. First because it helps me to Not sing along, so I can work and still be listening to something like this. The voice becomes another instrument in the mix which I can enjoy just like a lead guitar or whatever. The borderline harpsichord tone one of the guitarists had was really interesting. Definitely see how this came up after Love Bites.

Singer Fuki is one of the most sought after musicians. Writes literature nerd lyrics for Anime soundtracks, has a voice like Dio, in that it starts out higher than you think but with smooth full tone & power. Honestly, I think she only sang 1.5 octaves here, but she can do whatever she wants, and proud of her vibrato. Guitarist with the neck art does the screaming and leads this band. Violin is full time. Other guitar Undead Corporation, drummer from Galneryus.
One of Fuki’s fans on fb posts the album covers of releases she’s been on. It’s in the 90s of CDs, she’s only turning 32. Since ‘08?, so a CD every 6weeks? Live shows with 6? Bands, and live theatre anime musicals...
My favorite of hers is the least metal project (tho they get big metal props, maybe more so than BandMaid). Try Doll$Boxx. Popular intro to them is Take My Chance. ruclips.net/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/видео.html
My fav of theirs tho is Dragonet, completely different styles, courtesy of my fav most varied musicians, aka Gacharic Spin.

One of my favorite singers at the moment! The growling part is usually not this prominent, although I guess it probably will be in the future as he can't play guitar as much anymore. As others have said a great song/songs to listen to is Cadaver/Revadac. There are a lot of live videos of them as well, for example Change of Generation a song that isn't talked about that much but that is really good in my opinion. The band Doll$boxx with the song Take My Chance is another great one, one of the other bands that Fuki sings in.

It's kind of crazy that they use the violin as an instrument that doesn't lead the melody (like it would do in most other bands or orchestras) but instead creates a creepy disharmony by using diminished sixths or diminished seconds. I think that's kinda fun, even though it's not something I would listen to daily.
As you seem to be so much into drummers doing crazy shit (seems to be a repeated occurrence on your channel :) ) you might wanna check out Meshuggah. They have some of the greatest guitarists of all time and their drummer is absolutely insane. Their music has timings that normal human minds can't even comprehend. :P
Most people recommend their live performance of "Bleed" from their album obZen because it also has a drum cam (even though you don't see much because the quality is bad). I also recommend "Stengah" (live in Montreal) but I will admit that seeing the drum cam is very helpful in trying to understand what they do.

So happy you went wirh Unlucky Morpheus! :) Fuki the singer is kind of metal royalty over there...lol They are something of an all star band I guess you could say, with an anime background... Fuki is the lead of something like 4 bands, although I believe only 3 are currently active. Lead gt is the screamer and does most of the backing vocals...2nd gt is lead in another band you might check out later called Undead Corporation - No Antidote - ruclips.net/video/JKU8UKgaY7Q/видео.html -(zombie theme of course. I'm getting the impression competetion is so fierce there many bands resort to such things in an attempt to get recognition, Destrose with the pirate theme, Band Maid yadda, Fate Gear with a steam punk theme, etc.) The bassist is really good, one of their new lives he has a chance to show off, and this drummer...he is a machine. He keeps that level up basicallythe entire live set...insane. I love his fills and they just keep getting better... Back to Fuki, she will never get caught going out of her range, and its the power of them live that cleanly blasts through all that metal in the lives... before the Lovebites girl came along, only one of the Destrose singers (Marina) could match her power...which in both cases seems insanely effortless... and Jill on the violin...again, over the top talented and is a member of two or three other bands... there's a cover she and a guitarist did of Dream Theatre's Dance of Eternity - ruclips.net/video/LUtdC-9jaPc/видео.html - that is mind blowing you must check out even if you don't review it! Unlucky Morpheus is very strong live - Black Pentagram live - ruclips.net/video/oAR2zZ4riT0/видео.html - Thanks! Great reviewd as always!

Thanks for checking this awesome band out! Definitely recommend checking out some of their live stuff as well!
Regarding the vocal range of the singer (Fuki), here she's singing in what I believe is her tessitura of an alto range of mid 3rd octave through the whole 4th octave which really sounds fantastic and warm, but she's got a massive range. Check out some of her work with Doll$Boxx to see her pushing up into that 5th octave a lot more, and the track she collaborated on with SYU from GALNERYUS she goes all the way up to the upper end of the 5th octave with a belted A5 (or might be an Ab5, I'd have to re-listen to double check) at a number of points.
The track with SYU from GALNERYUS is called REASON if you want to check it out (also absolutely stunning guitar work in that track from Syu, very highly recommended).
If you want to try out Doll$Boxx their track Take My Chance is an excellent starting point, although to be clear Doll$Boxx aren't standard metal, more a fusion of various disparate styles including metal, funk and pop, very unusual but fantastic song writing and musicianship. Take My Chance has a real lungbuster of a chorus as well with it's main hook requiring Fuki to belt a C5 then glissando up to an E5, sustained for nearly 10 seconds! The drummer meanwhile sings some fantastic counter-point to those long extended notes before they start harmonising then interweaving their vocal lines, I was stunned by the ingeniousness and melodic sophistication of it when I first heard it (and still am every time I listen!), especially considering it's a chorus where melody is usually simplified. Even with all that sophistication and multiple moving parts it's still an incredibly catchy chorus.
    EDIT: Fix paragraph spacing

Awesome. Very happy to see Unlucky Morpheus (aka Ankimo) here. One of my favorite bands, and Fuki is my favorite singer, bar none. Ankimo started out in 2008 as a fun side project for Shiren (guitars/growls) and Fuki (vocals). Shiren took songs from the Touhou Project video game and rearranged them into metal songs, playing guitar, bass, keys, and drum programming. Fuki added lyrics and vocals, and voila, they had a "band."
Over the next 7 years, Fuki had her "main" band, Light Bringer, so Shiren would often work with a variety of other musicians and singers to create Ankimo albums in a variety of styles whenever Fuki wasn't available. In 2015, Light Bringer went on indefinite hiatus, and Shiren started writing new original music for Ankimo. At that point, this line-up, which had gradually come together over the few previous releases and live performances, solidified into a full band. Since then, they have been on a tear, putting out 14 releases in the past 5 years (singles, EPs, albums, and live albums).

I saw this band live in London back in October and you can tell that they are friends that like to play music, they are just so comfortable on stage together, which leads to a great performance, one of the best I have seen. And they are really at heart a group of friends, they are all from other bands or do other things. The bassist normally only play's in jazz bands.
There is a guy on YT that has translated a lot of Unlucky Morpheus songs, here is this one. ruclips.net/video/yGaJBswmd2M/видео.html
    The Band
Fuki (singer) - from loads inc Doll$boxx, Light Bringer + solo. There was a fest. where she appeared on stage with 5 bands. In 12 years she has been involved in over 90 releases, and that's not just one track here and there. In the 2 years before I saw them she had done 5 full Albums. 1 Doll$boxx, 3 Unlucky Morpheus, 1 solo, also had done tracks on other albums...... Oh!! and toured with both bands and did her own Fuki Fest.
Jinya (guitar) - UNDEAD CORPORATION, Carbonic Acid, Denkare
Shiren (guitar)(Growls) - ex- Yousei Teikoku, ex- Denkare
Fumiya (drummer) - Galneryus, ex-Thousand Eyes
Ogawa Hiroyuki (bass) - TRICK BOX, THE CHARM PARK
Jill (Violin) - Rose Noire, Hollow Mellow, Fuki (solo project)
Try Angreifer (live), it was written before Jill joined the band, but due to an illness Shiren has, tenosynovitis of the arm, so Jill takes over his part playing violin. Jill has done a couple of covers that are fantastic, Attack on Titan and The Dance of Eternity - Dream Theater.
I always feel sorry for Ogawa (bass) he is so good, but due to all the other talent in the band he just gets overlooked.

Loved it but I would agree with your little Chase, the light and dark that you were talking about intensifies the impact of the heavy. That's why 'that other band' stands out to me a bit like master and student. When they develop the skill to add the soft into the hard, then the overall result will make that transition form amazing to epic.

You really need to do more Unlucky Morpheus. They're even better live than in their studio/MV versions. To my ears their live mix places the drums a few dB lower, and the violin a few dB higher, and the sound is just awesome!
Try out Dignity of Spirit (live); Angreifer (live) for two stunning examples.
Plus the Cadaver/Revadac two-part music video.

These guys are awesome! This is somewhat of a side project since every member are already members of other bands. The singer, Fuki, fronts for at least 4 bands (including a solo project) and several collaborations. UM's song Knight of Sword is another fun song with a bass solo. Keep doing what you're doing 👍🤘

Agreed on Knight of Sword. CADAVER/REVADAC would also be awesome.
Unlucky Morpheus *used* to be somewhat of a side project, with an ever-rotating lineup and guest list. With Vampir in 2015, they started writing original material and moved away from the tohou stuff, and this line-up solidified as a real band. Since then, they have been incredibly prolific, with 14 releases in 5 years (singles, EPs, albums, and live albums). I'd call them more of an all-star band now.

I recommend you Karma, Forever, March of Mephisto or The Haunting with their second vocalist - Khan (in fact I could recommend the whole album Epica... fun fact, that's where the band Epica took their name from) Or Liar Liar, Sacrimony or Mindfall Remedy with their third vocalist - Tommy Karevik.

From Japan I could recommend this two bands (drastically different):
Dir en grey (band) - Vinushka (This band was a J-Rock rock, then developed to Progressive, Metalcore, Death Metal & more). Their vocalist, Kyo, is the most versatile vocalist I know, has an amazing range.
Malice Mizer (band) - Shiroi Live (This band started also was very diverse during their career, starting as rock, then gothic rock, pop, synth and finally gothic rock or metal in some cases). Also this band is pioneer of the "Visual Kei" look the Japanese bands have.
I think you would appreciate both!

Highlights are TAVEMONO NO URAMI which is a song about pudding (Yes, really) "日本の米は世界一" ("Japanese rice is the best in the world"), "猫の惑星" (Cat Planet) but really any of their stuff is just great.

The band is called Versailles, the song is on the longer side, also I'm not good at naming genres of music since I don't really care about those, but I guess they're neo-classical metal? Unlucky Morpheus - Cadaver/Revadac ( with sheets ) ruclips.net/video/_yrNRhIreyE/видео.html
The last mentioned is actually two songs. First they play Cadaver, then they play Cadaver backwards ( Revadac)
The only differences is the drumfills, lyrics and abit more choir on Revadac. But the melody, guitar/violin solos are played backwards.
I would just suggest whole of their catalogue, because they have alot of amazing songs, but theese two would hold for now :)
    Cheers!

This is one of my favourites, super catchy but intense.
And neoclassical solos are great when done right.
While he does a lot of cool things on the cymbals for example, the drums can be the weakest link in some songs. I'm really not a fan of the constant double bass at a steady speed through the whole chorus of cadaver. Though this song uses the double bass excellently to emphasize the last chorus.
