Hi Mike, Proof I found clock video from 5 years ago. It was great! Thanks for sharing. God bless and take care from your long-time California subscriber.
Truly amazing story and history ! Thank you for sharing the full tour with us . You be the "Keeper of the Clock " now following Grandad's years of service . That's incredible Bro and keep up the good work !
this is by far your best video.your grandfather did a wonderful job on it.i hope you teach each of your kids it so they have the knowledge of how the clock works.
I’m going down the RUclips Time Machine, waiting on New Year’s Eve no less and stumble across DP working on a clock! That’s a really fascinating piece of machinery. ‘From time to time’, I have the opportunity to work on Carillon systems from different manufacturers. Some are pretty neat, but they are nowhere near as fascinating as the Troy clock. Thank you for sharing DP, and Happy New Year!
My folks had a clock shop in the mid 60s to the mid 80s - i learned about repairing clocks from them and my uncle. The 'slant cog' is called the escape wheel - the thing that interacts with it is called the verge. it's a 'dead beat' escapement meaning it doesn't push the mechanism backward before releasing the escape tooth. escape because it allows the power of the falling weight to escape in a very controlled manner. very interesting - thank you muchly bigly for that. Most tower clocks were custom built per application and to order.
lOVE YOUR VIDEOS Especially like the ones that show the things unique to small town life. Keep them coming. You are obviously dedicated to your community and your livelihood. You have a very tolerant wife. LOL Keep her around she keeps you leveled. BaaHaa
I enjoyed this video very much and I'm sure it was Ms. Dirt Perfect that went to see how the clock works because I learned long ago Wives don't forget anything lol stay safe and thank you for sharing
I have Aspergers and clicks are one of my special interest areas. When I was growing up a family friend gave me NAWCC magazines and got me interested. He also helped restore an E Howard 3E striker that was in our city hall in Grand Rapids Michigan before it was torn down in the 60s and the restored click is now in our museum
Mike that was absolutely amazing, at St. Ann Catholic church where I live has a bell that rings on the hour only, but anyway thanks for sharing that Mike it was truly nice to see that and the history of the bell. Take care stay safe god bless
if i have been by that clock once i,ve been by thousand times alway,s look up then go down on river bank watch tug,s can you imagine what thought degree of mechanical understanding it took to build that hope it last lot longer thank you for posting this
That was really cool! A lot of history and memories there! It’s amazing how simple but sophisticated that clock is. The engineering on it is really neat. And it’s amazing it still runs as good as it does. Things were definitely built to last back then! Thanks for sharing! Sweet video!
Fascinating history lesson here. Very cool you have the memories of quality time with your Grandfather working on that piece. You are a stand-up guy for sharing the family history of the timepiece and extremely fortunate to be in a position to maintain it today. You obviously have a special place in your heart for its history and I'm sure your Grandfather would be very proud of you! 2 thumbs up from here, awesome video, great camera work, and sincere narration make this video a keeper for future generations of your family to admire. Work safe out there, always enjoy all your videos, great job! Doug@ the "ranch"
SUPER COOL! Engineering is so interesting! Thanks for showing us all that! I could probably sit and watch that thing go through it's motions for a long time! Thanks for the video!
I know there is actually a ting tang strike e howard clock in Savannah city hall in Georgia but they went to a master control system. Hope this one can keep running. There's an E Howard in Goshen Indiana that was recently restored by Smiths Clock and Bell of Indoanapolis and it was not electrified they cleaned up the No 3 striker and 4000 pound bell and faces like new and it's running again like it did in 1870
Amazing, u solved one thing I always wondered about, what makes that thing tick! We have a few clocks in Cambridge Ontario that resemble that ! Thanks for the tour.
@@DirtPerfect it would be great if you and some of your friends could fix it so parents could take their children to see and learn about the clock . Thanks for all you do for the community
Man, a real nice video. I always enjoyed church bells and wondered how they were made and how they operated. Your walk through educated me on how they work. I know grandpa would be tickled knowing his grandson is following through with something he had a passion. Thanks much for this video. Now, are you training your son or daughter to carry-on the tradition (smile)? Enjoyed a full-watch. 👍
Great video! Amazing what they could build back then. I couldn't help but wonder if a guy attached an electric motor with gear box (like the one your grandpa made) to the winding mechanisms and added limit switches, the clock could be "self winding". Very neat to see the engineering that wen into that clock.
We have one in our church in my home town. We could hear it ring from home an we was 3 miles from our church... Unfortunately they closed our church in 2002
awesome video. why was that one clock face disconnected ? How do you know how far to wind the drums, can you see the weights. thanks for the great video.
Was disconnected because it was out of time with the other and was fixing and yes can see the weights and there is a mark in the cable where to stop winding
Interesting just curious is that Troy Indiana? And at the end of the video when you were talking about similar clocks you were talking about quarter strikers right or did you mean all models. I know there a few Seth Thomas in operation left including one at Stanford that strike the Westminster Chime. I didn't know three was a lot of ting tang strike tower clocks by them out there actually
So essentially... what you’re saying... is you’re kinda like Father Time? I mean no big deal or anything autocorrect just capitalizes it automatically.... loved it impressive piece of mechanical history.(double points for the irony that this historical machine actually had a hand in creating its nostalgia)
Thought about your video this afternoon driving through Jasper on a "parts run" . Passed St. Joseph's rite at three thirty and the half bell rang . Wonder if it's clock is still set up original ? I'm guessing the clock face is 150' feet up . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Joseph's_Catholic_Church_(Jasper%2C_Indiana)
Hey Dirt Perfect, I don't mean ta BS ya a lot. Hope U can follow in yer Grandpa,s foot steeps and keep dat ole ticker goin fer a bunch more decades, A.
