Can't stretch this enough : this "Rollnote" series is gold. I don't know whether or not the people watch it as much as gear reviews, but the quality is so much higher. Thanks for making these videos Willem and hope you keep this series alive!
Awesome for me as I used to live in LA (now in Berlin) and I never did as much as I had wanted to photography wise. We used to bike and swim there often and this video brought back fond warm (& hot) memories of time gone by. Thanks for putting your lens out there…
Ngl some shots felt that they where captured str8 out of a dream, I have seen Willem's work but these were something else(especially the shots at the pier).
The ship in the distance of the frame you mentioned - made me smile because I just thought the same and then you mentioned it. Often it is the fine details (not talking resolution) that make the shot. As always very inspiring. Oh and that video clip... magic. It just gives a totally different vibe and creates emotions otherwise not possible. At least for me.
Sometimes I think "how is this dude taking pictures and every frame of the roll looks so good?". All of your creative work is so inspiring and I think your are an idol for me. Thanks for the great content.
Film on film (probably not the right verbiage) was absolutely beautiful, it didn't give me goosebumps, it didn't take my breath away, it just made me freeze in time and just bask. Truly amazing.
Great work again. I love your compositions and subject selections. The punchy colors were invigorating and the pastels set a relaxing mood, Ektar did a good job there. The Super 16 shot of the waves looking toward the beach reminded me of the ocean blues I got on some Ektachrome shots a few decades ago. So vivid and pleasing I still remember them.
Well done my man. Loved the film segment towards the end. I noticed the Holiday magazine next to the turntable. Haven’t seen an issue in a couple of generations. Thanks
I live right near there and it's great to see a new perspective on a place I've been shooing/visiting my whole life. I was literally just down there yesterday thinking about how I need to take my camera down there again hahaha. If you decide to go shoot in that area again you should go walk El Segundo main st, some of the planes look massive coming out of LAX and it's a pretty cool place to take some odd perspective shots and the food there is pretty great haha
I pretty much grew up in El Segundo and seeing him visit here and taking photos that I have also similarly taken was crazy. I agree with you, its awesome to see a different perspective here. There is also some interesting composition within El Segundo's "industrial" part which is closest to the refinery. You should definitely check that out as well @willem
0:51 image is gorgeous. I keep coming back to the video and just pausing it on my second monitor. The toe of the red car, the umbrella/seating, the stop sign, street names, greenery, power lines, recycling bin, and leading lines to the beach/water in the distance absolutely wows me. Even the roadwork patching leads the eye down to the water. This one's begging to be printed.
The videos you took, were absolutely breathtaking. Seriously brought me to a different place, and somehow were so powerful to me and felt so nostalgic and meaningful. I think it’s beautiful what moments you capture and you find are valuable to you. It is truly a gift to find that out of every location. Thank you so much for sharing, seriously a blessing to see your work in action🙏🏻 much love!!
I think it’s disrespectful how amazing your photos are bro, Jesus Christ. The colors are insane. That 16mm clip literally made it seem like everything’s going to be alright in our world. You guys snapped with this video
I don't understand why some photographers doesn't like Ektar. They seem to hate Ektar's colors but actually as you can see in this video: Ektar is amazing!
@@julianaframe4200 I don't know. I saw a lot of excellents portraits. Maybe it's the same people who said the same about 400H but I did some portraits with that film and they turned amazing
Absolutely loved this video! I’m dying over these colors in the shots, and the added geometry from the shadows makes for some really wonderful compositions. You're crushing it!
He seems so happy. I have a canon rebel t6i and although it’s been a while, I used to walk around my hometown and the surrounding cities and take pictures. It’s so relaxing and fun to capture the moment as well as perfect your craft 😌
These colors and the mood of your video 😍! Manhattan’s beaches look amazing, and for a European, it makes you want to travel to the United States and take pictures 📸
love this video so much, especially since i grew up in manhattan beach. try visiting palos verdes near the cliffs! definitely so prime photo opportunities there!
This is my hometown! You captured it beautifully! I never take photos around here bc I've lived here for 23 years and just don't think to, I guess, so this was super cool !
As soon as the first photo popped up, I was like "damn this is gonna be a good one" haha. Amazing work bro! Colors, light and comp in all of these were so dreamy. 🔥🔥
Manhattan Beach was the first beach I went to when I was in LA in the summer of 2012! Memories!!! Lovely photos as always Willem x the Bolex footage is icing on the cake too!
for me this is one of your most beautiful videos. the super 16 footage made the time go backwards for a secound. you always inspire me with your work :) thank you willem for creating these wonderful pieces of art.

One of my old stomping grounds. That whole area Manhattan all the way down to Venice, lots of good times. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Your shots are magnificent.
Some of my favorite photos from Adam Bartos' excellent book Boulevard were shot in Manhattan Beach in the late 70s and early 80s. Really similar vibes from Willem's shots here, a contemporary counterpart.
Your photographs are beautiful as always but your S16 footage is achingly beautiful. A buddy and I went halvsies on a 16mm Eclair (not S16) but it's a bit of a pain to shoot with a motor and battery that must be charged. I think a S16 Bolex may be in my future (but they sure are expensive!). Nice work.
the colorgrading of this video is money
how's he do that goddamn

Nice
The color grading on this video is so damn good and matches the film stock perfectly
Production quality of these videos has gone up a bunch
I don't know why but the footage of the 16mm film just made me cry. It reminded me of a childhood memory. Thanks for that Willem!
Yep haha. When the sunset and the silhouetted trees came up 😢. So beautiful!!
The Medium is the Message...the visual grammar is getting serious here Willem!
That glorious 16mm was “la petite touche finale” bravo!
I read that book.
« Cerise sur le gâteau »
Willem moved to the next stage of the film-wallet suffering: the motion picture.

The other is far away. The south of France.

7:00 damn, dude. Beautiful composition... and at 7:16 your videographer stole the perfect angle! :D
I got "bo-tanical garden" vibes when you kept saying "power plant". Awesome pictures my friend
So stylish to walk so casually with the camera hanging down in one hand and the neck strap dragging on the sidewalk. Smooth!
That photo with the cooler at 6:46 -- so good. People hate on Ektar but when it works, man, it *works*.
You should check out Redondo pier. It’s like 10 minutes south of Manhattan beach.

So amazing to watch you make these bangers. People say California light hits different, that’s so true but also your skill set is great.
The music for the super 16mm footage was perfect :')

How is it possible for this video to be as beautiful as the photos? Great work. The first photo reminded me of the opening shot of Inherent Vice. 👌
Beautiful, loved the spontaneous shots and how you tried to catch them!
Production quality is up 100x! Congrats Willem!
Can we get a behind the scenes of your vlogs? The camera man talking about his equipment and the process of colorgrading..
The view in 0:40 is the same as the first shot in P.T.A's "Inherent Vice"
It is literally the same building as inherent vice ruclips.net/video/1PUjFFPIrAI/видео.html
Yep. Same street the 2nd yellow building the background. He is just further up the street.

Great stuff! I love the warm colors in your photos
this video made me think about "The life aquatic" and " The grand budapest hotel" movies, the aesthetic looks like that
The quality of your video's editing and colouring has improved a lot lately! Cheers kid!

I don't understand why some photographers doesn't like Ektar. They seem to hate Ektar's colors but actually as you can see in this video: Ektar is amazing!
Ektar makes skin tones look weird. A lot of people don't like it because they can't take portraits.

The look on your video footage. that was also sooo pleasing. just wow
The shot in the beginning is almost identical to the first shot of the film inherent vice by Paul thomas Anderson, love the quality of the videos man
Was looking for this comment. I looked up the opening shot to make sure he wasn't recapturing the same location!
The vibes are everything and more when Willem’s taking photos 📸📸📸
the super 16 is so stunning

Should definitely go during blue hour, the light there is immaculate during that time
What’s blue hour
@@brandonarmbrust8659 from my understanding it’s usually the 20-45 minutes after the sun has set
